I know this is and old topic, BUT I just saw this picture on the Internet Party Facebook page.
For those who didn't know, the Internet Party is a New Zealand political party established by Kim in 2014.
The photo was taken at the Dotcom Mansion during the party meeting yesterday

I am confused. A few days ago, Kim Dotcom was saying that he will create his own altcoin, and popularize it through his new file-sharing service Mega.  Now he is saying that he will stick to Bitcoin. What to believe now?

I guess he changed his mind and decided it is best to back Bitcoin.

I really thought he was behind Megacoin for a long time but would not reveal it due to ongoing US investigations.

I think he understand the shitcoin world will not make him more rich so he come back to the true & wanna use bitcoin ! I think is best bet today ! Make shit coin & pump & dump will just fuck him with some fail news etc. Its better to use something trusted and promote it :=)

Actually, his Party wanted to introduce a national cryptocurrency for New Zealand.
I am confused as you are... Maybe he wants to support both bitcoin and the future national altcoin.

Both Mega and the Internet Party accept bitcoin for memberships.

That is great news. And this makes it clear that Kim Dotcom is supporting Bitcoin, at least for now. May be in future, he will shift to his own altcoin. So the news is actually good.

I heard rumors he plans to change his name to Kim Bitcoin in 2018.

Kim Dotcom is hype.

I think he should take a couple of years off and hire a personal trainer. His kids would thank him for it, and he might as well be able to experience the future.

What Kim likes most is publicity. He is a rather volatile character.

If he goes for bitcoin that will be a nice marketing gig but I do not expect that he does it out of solid belief in bitcoin. He is always looking for the next big thing.

Thread has been bumped.  He said that in March last year.  The altcoin stuff would be his more recent thoughts.

Did he actually say that though or were people just assuming he wanted to create his own? The article I read didn't say anything as such.

Well if he's using it and singing its praises then that's good enough, though having him associated with it is one more way the gov will attack it.

I have a bad feeling about this. Look at what happened to Megaupload. This guy became rich and amassed hundreds of millions of $$$, while the data of the users got deleted. He never bothered about his affiliates.

He had no choice with Megaupload, did he? Blame the US govt not Kim.

Obviously you think that storing data in a cloud is safe, which is retarded. Don't do that with BTC or anything else or you will be goxxed.

Btw. I have a feeling Kim filled up his wallets with cheap coins and now he's pumping, but that's fair enough, he wasn't the only one, so many bears on this forum and in China did the same ... :D

The way I see it, there's marketing options up the ass associated with this coin.

I hope so. One of the reasons behind he Chinese altcoin boom was that the investors thought that they were much cheaper than the Bitcoin. Anyway..... then BTC was $1,200. Now it is $465. So not that expensive anymore.

Actually more pos coins are being made now than before. People are finally twigging to the PeerCoin model.

PeerCoin may replace BTC, or at least BTC may have to adopt POS+POW.

Another option would be POR (proof of resource, see MaidSafe).

The question is however if the specific proof model is that important as long as it can't be forged. I think existing adoption is far more important.

If you watch the episode of the Keiser Report Kim was on a few months ago, he:
1. Stated he had nothing to do with megacoin
2. When asked about crypto, he was very coy with Max. Max drew him out and Kim said that he could be planning something big for the crypto world.

I mean, it only makes sense. He works in encrypted file uploads & hates governments. He will for sure be doing something in decentralised crypto world, but he is a businessman and is not just going to spill the beans until it happens. That's certainly the impression I got from the interview.

Well, Kim's a lot of talk, and he's famous for enriching himself. Don't hold your breath that he would actually work honestly to improve the life of the general population. The drivers seems to be his own ego, and what he can achieve for himself.

In the free market, you only get richer by improving other people's life.

He would be the reason if sudden price hike occurs!

Hope his next tweet is to buy bitcoins :)
