Title: 0 confirmations after several days - BTC gone?
Post by: klooch on May 30, 2016, 06:11:41 AM
Hello all
I have sent funds to a BTC address however the transaction is still showing Status: 0/unconfirmed after several days.
I have successfully sent funds to the same address in the past so I dont understand what could be the problem, however the beneficiary is not crediting me for the money received and the money is gone from my account, what can I do?

If the fee was insufficient you'll either have to wait it out, or attemt to create a RBF/double spend.

maybe you're setting your miners fee to 0 which make your transaction unconfirmed for a long time maybe 1 week and your transaction will be rejected, your bitcoin r not going to go anywhere but you just need a time whether the transaction will be confirmed sometime or rejected and will be brought back to your address i don't know but the bitcoin for sure will not lost

The funds are not lost. However, you will only get them back after the transaction is rejected by the network.

Sometimes, rebroadcasting the transaction can help getting it confirmed. Otherwise, you will probably have to wait it out, can take up to a week if I'm not mistaken.

In the future, make sure you have a sufficient fee to get accepted in blocks easier. How much did you add? Remember that fees are slowly rising and that the old 10k satoshi might not be good enough anymore.

When i look up your transaction, i get this message:
Transaction rejected by our node. Reason: Non-canonical signature: High S Value

Shorena actually explained this:

Which wallet client did you use (core, electrum, multibit), and maybe it would be good to also include the version number.

This program uses Qt version 4.8.4.

I also cannot see the transaction, which is weird. Could it already have been rejected? In any way, how much were the fees you paid with this transaction? I always send a little bit more than the minimum required fee, to guarantee a quick confirmation. Good luck, I hope it gets rejected. ^hmmmmm^

The transaction is not to be found. This means imho that it was already rejected. The money should be back in your wallet, or will be there soon.

Nope, doesn't means rejected. It's still waiting to be accepted and broadcasted probably.

This program uses Qt version 4.8.4.

isn't 4.8.4 a bit old? if you send coin with a old client, they will be stuck there in the chain until it return to you, you need to use last version of core or equivalent if light wallet

What program are you talking about?
The stated version of 4.8.4 makes no sence to me, do you mean 0.8.4?

If it's indeed bitcoin QT 0.8.4 : https://bitcoin.org/en/version-history shows us this version was released on 03/09/2013. It might be advisable for the OP to upgrade, altough i'm not completely sure the upgrade path will be easy to go from such an old version to a new one. It might be a good idear to make a decent backup of the wallet.dat, and try to install bitcoin core on a new pc and import the wallet.dat without touching the old installation (i have no idear if this would work, but at least by not touching the old installation, the risk of ruining his wallet would be small)

OP should look at the Bitcoin core version dialog, not the Qt version. Qt it the (crappy IMHO) cross-platform application framework that the UI component is written in.

BTW core v0.12.1 is using Qt version 5.5.0 so this appears to be an older version.

Maybe your transcation is rejected, your btc will be back on your wallet soon. Just wait. Or maybe you can contact the support of your wallet owner. You can ask your question up there.

It seems like that the transaction ID is not showing up on blockchain.info at the moment.

Hopefully you get your money back soon, I personally have never experienced such a problem. What wallet are you using currently?

Because of the many transaction like receiving and sending bitcoin it result for a slow confirmation. I already encountered that same scenario and i just wait for the confirmation like 5 days.

Bitcoin will never magically disappear, it's impossible to lose your money, your money never goes into some sort of limbo where it's stuck for life, it may just take a long time if the fee is shit, this is why RBF is not a bad idea.

Well, blockchain often not shows it but even blockr.io is not showing it ... strange. Please pay proper or more fees due to the busy chain now a days I am also doing the same. Its sad to see you lost btc but I think you will get back once rejected by the bitcoin network.

OP's transaction (https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/b95b4e2c38bed1cdfc6fb21291a457281ab8d58badb956f5aa8f6403410adeef/) have been double spended by https://live.blockcypher.com/btc/tx/9300574b89f3e28f4b0c8d7417124834f0e30fc75117b8e479913f350f0e34a1/ . this thread is from 2 freaking weeks ago so I'm guessing there's no need to reply further.

Well, blockchain often not shows it but even blockr.io is not showing it ... strange.

it's normal. it means both explorers have dropped the tx from their mempool.

Don't worry,Your btc will not be lost, but have to go through a long time to confirm the success of the transfer。
Pay a little more for the next handling fee.

You must know that the transactions are increasing by day and what fees normally people pay is 0.0001 so to make sure that your transaction gets confirmed much quicker, pay at least 0.0005 btc :)

0.0001 fee nowaday is not even fulfill the requirement of minimum fees, with this fee sometimes your transaction will be longer than people who spend their 0.0002~0.0003 as a fee,but why don't just spend few cents of your rest coin to speed up your transaction,it is not even enough to buy 500ml of cola

Happened to me quite a few times. A month back, I sent BTC0.025 to one of my wallets from blockchain.info. The fie size was a little bit high (18KB), as there was a lot of dust. I paid BTC0.001 as the tx fee (why should I pay more? It is almost 5% of the transaction volume). The transaction took 5 days to confirm, and I was really frustrated with the system.

This has happened to me several times but apart from blockchain no other chain is also not showing it, this never happened with me. Basically his txn must have been rejected by network by now for sure.

yeah if block is full no matter the fee right? so why i should pay more and wait like someone that didn't pay anything lol, they really need to address bitcoin scalability

You'll get it back eventually, OP. Or not. Probabilistic nature of transactions is what makes bitcoin so much fun.

It is not that funny, if your cash is stuck somewhere for a week or two and you are running short on finances. A few months ago, I needed some cash urgently. I transferred BTC from my Blockchain.info wallet to Localbitcoins, so that I could convert them to fiat cash. The confirmation took 3 days, and I had to borrow money from some of my friends to cover the expenses.

Yes I too never experienced such a problem with bitcoins. I was shocked too see that the transaction does not exist and for a moment thought he pasted a wrong string for transaction.

You need to consider or check your transaction again, maybe something was missing or you do not give an appropriate fee and make your transaction is delayed.but yesterday a lot of people have the same issue with you.

May be the problem solved and the transaction is returned. I think now a days the minimum fees must be set to 0.00025 instead of the old 0.0001 may be because the price of bitcoins has increased and more people using bitcoins :)

This is actually first time I am hearing something like this. It seems that the original sender would have received the coins back. Kindly ask you sender to show the transaction on blockchain and since he will not be able to show ask him to send back the coins again to your id.

What precaution can be taken in such scenario?
