Hello all,

I'm running an s7 with 2 HP DPS-1200FB PSU's with one of them having 2 pci-e 6pin Y splitter to supply 2 hashing boards. The problem I'm having is cables at the Y splitter connection is really hot to the point I can't touch for more than 5 secs. I recently moved my miner to a cooler location, but this is the first time I'm noticing this problem. I've been running my miner for 3 months without any problems and it's working fine, but I'm still concerned. The cables are rated 16AWG.

Yes if they are "PSU cables Y splitters are burning hot" UNPLUG THEM.   When playing with electricity there bad things that can happen if wires heat up, leading up to and including fire.

Do you have more info on your Y-splitter?  Some are horrible and not up to mining and it sounds like yours likely fits in with these.

Only split power wires if you are SURE the load is safe for the wiring.  Sometimes the cables will get "warm" after extended periods of use but they should NEVER be burning hot.  It could be possible there is backflow of power between the two PSUs.  Are you using any kind of adapter that makes the two PSUs play nice together?

That's WAY too hot.

You need to fix the overload before insulation starts melting/burning and you get a SERIOUS issue.

Dude  you are about a day or two away from melting out your gear. stop what you are doing.

Some of these threads honestly scare me.   Everyone needs to understand when it comes to cables all are not equal, there are some very cheap adapters out there not meant for mining.   I honestly don't think OP realized how it being so hot to the touch is bad.    It should have been unpluged right away, you are totally right about melting gear and it could be a lot worse depending on setup.

People need to learn to respect electricity.   You don't get second chances with it

16 AWG wire is rated for a maximum of 18 amps (or 216 watts). An S7 will have a total consumption of about 1,350 watts.

What I would recommend is using three 600 watt power supplies, with at least two sets of 12 AWG wire going from the power supply to the hashing board.

With two 1200 watt power supplies (I believe that is the rating running only on 240 volts AC), you could use one for 1 hashing board + control board, and the other for the 2 other hashing boards, but you'll want to have four sets of 12 AWG cables on that 2nd power supply to the two hashing boards.

16 AWG wire is way too small and you should not use any Y-splitters.

You should be worried, especially if there is a smell that appears too.
It could cost greatly if you do not unplug them and invest in a better psu.
Even if it won't kill or injure you, lots of energy will be wasted as heat from the PSU so you will lose money that way anyway.
