Title: Strategy of the trolls/shills
Post by: Luthier on May 31, 2016, 03:28:23 PM
I think it's a really interesting topic, here are some of my assumptions and some questions:

Assumptions:
1.  The trolls (not talking about people like MatTheCat and Tzupy here but NLC, etc.) are either trader(s) or paid by trader(s) to make forum posts in order to increase the profitability of their trading positions.

2.  Constantly making negative posts about Bitcoin and/or hyping other cryptos is a "game theory optimal" strategy to influence weak hands in the market.  If they're in a short position, it could convince some others to sell and increase the profitability of their short.  If they're in a long position, it could convince some others to short/sell and have to close their short or buy back later at a loss.

3. The more trolling, the larger the position these trader(s) have taken, but it could be either short or long.

Questions:
1.  Is this really profitable?  Obviously it must be if it's continued on so long.  There must be a large contingent of small-time "traders" and weak hands that visit this forum and are swayed by the constant and pervasive effects of the trolling.

2.  Who is behind it?  My guess is either one or a small group of relatively sophisticated traders.

Sometimes trolls are just trolls, and they are (mis)guided by internal stimuli that we'll never know or shortdickedness that hopefully we'll never know.  I don't think these people who constantly decry bitcoin are anything but people who have nothing better to do and have no stake in bitcoin.  Probably some of them do own other shitcoins, there's no denying that.  And then I'm sure some of these guys are anti-bitcoin for whatever reason.  It's a damn big world and there are a lot of people in it.

Yes, it's all about stirring the shit with a true troll. Whatever gets the most rise out of someone.

Looks like 520 was the bottom any way, slight shoots of recovery now.

Nah, nobody spams all that shit for free.  They get paid by Goldman Sachs, JIDF, people like Krugman, Federal Reserve, random other Jewish banking interests.

If it is a paid troll it's a really shit one and anyone paying its wages must be a genuine fuckhead themselves. A true pro would be far subtler and less moronic. It's so astonishingly relentlessly mindless that it just washes over anyone with a fraction of brain matter.

I usually like what you say roach, but why the fuck would those organizations be bothered paying people to write nonsense, when theres plenty of fools out there who write nonsense from their own whims?

i'd say trolls are a mix, of attempted manipulation from low holding messers fucking around, high holding traders looking to play off weaker minds, morons posting for moron reasons, excited bitcoiners losing their shit and writing crazy emotional things, and maybe some bankers or other big dicks just having a little fun playing with us all while theyre coked up

No man, sorry.  They have a fucking TEAM of around 3 people who log on at the exact same time and all spam in unison.  They work like a navy seal unit in terms of coordination.  It's not amateur idiots fucking around.  The level of coordination day after day after day just gives it all away that they are paid professional shills.

Whoever believes such a thing doesn't exist has no idea what they're talking about.  Groups like the JIDF are notorious for doing this.  Here they are getting paid to write propaganda on Wikipedia.  Of course they're going to do it here when it threatens Jewish banking interests:

1. it must be profitable otherwise why would they keep doing that! even if someone is troll spamming they would get board if no money is involved after a while. but you can see that there is a lot of spams. just yesterday there were at least 10 brand new accounts spamming FUD which seemed like bot work that takes money

2. i would like to know this also :)

My guess is that they have made several bad calls when trying to trade for profit in the past, which caused them to lose a significant portion of their btc holdings and are now trying to share their pain with us poor forum members.

Why else (still wouldn't do it for so long, but eh, trolls) would they keep going at it time and time again? Probably they have some mental problems as well, but if this helps keeps them in check, I guess I can accept their trolling.

I don't think they get paid to do it. The days that bitcointalk influences the daily bitcoin price are long gone. The volume is to big to be manipulated by trolls here saying price is going to crash without source.

i think your guess is wrong, because if they have lost and now are just trolling they would have stopped long time ago and never continue doing it this much.

my guess is that it is all about FUD. they spread Fear, uncertainty and doubt to try and shake weak hands out so they can fill their buy orders and have more to sell higher.
