Title: [WTB] High-end Gaming-type Video Cards
Post by: ChanceCoats123 on March 05, 2013, 09:46:49 PM
Along with bitcoins, one of my other hobbies is sub-zero overclocking of computer components. There is a site which tracks points and submissions with various pieces of hardware (www.hwbot.org). Because of the wide array of hardware out there, I'd like to gather some points for myself. With that said, I thought I would come to you guys for some of the cards I am looking for:

-Reference 7970's (please don't offer abused mining cards) that I could hopefully RMA if need be.
-"Suped up" 7970's, which include, but are not limited to the MSI 7970 Lightning and Asus 7970 Matrix Edition.
-"Suped up" GTX680's, again, include but not limited to EVGA 680 Classified and MSI 680 Lightning.
-"Suped up" GTX580's. For this one, I am only looking for Asus 580 Matrix, or MSI 580 Lightning cards.
-Any cards that you think I might want because they are slightly older gaming graphics cards.

I can pay via Bitcoin or Dwolla, I have a bit of rep on this site (but I haven't made a thread to track it all yet), and I also have a Heatware account here: http://heatware.com/eval.php?id=66694
I am a well established member at quite a few computer forums (the main one being www.overclockers.com/forums where I have almost 8,500 posts).
Feel free to ask questions, offer cards you think I'd be interested in, or just drop in with some information.

Thanks in advance!

In light of the litecoin bubble, the price is now $295 shipped to 60190 for nice reference 7970's.

While you are searching, if you ever run across any ASUS GTX 580 DCII GPU heatsinks let me know. I still have my 4 cards from running quad-SLI but I lost three of the heatsinks when I moved from Georgia to Colorado. Can't sell you the bare cards as well.. I blasted them pretty hard and trust me, you don't want them anymore  ;D

Kind of miss overclocking stuff on LN2.. maybe I'll get back into that when I get space for a benching room.

Aseras, no thank you for now. If I can't find anything I might get in touch with you.

Gomeler, will do. I've seen you around a few places and I'll let you know.

If you don't mind me asking, what setup do you use for temperature control? I haven't really looked into anything more than liquid (looked up submersion a few times, but never tried it).

I started out using dry ice. There are various containers which you can buy for either graphics cards or processors which hold whatever your frozen medium is. In the case of dry ice, you add acetone (or 90%+ isopropyl alcohol to aid the transfer of heat energy). I just recently purchased a 150L liquid nitrogen dewar though, because in the world of sub-zero cooling, colder is better. In some rare cases, people use liquid helium, but that presents a few more issues than controlling condensation.

Dry ice runs ~$1/lb and is at ~-80*C.
Liquid Nitrogen runs ~$1.50/L and is at -196*C
Liquid Helium runs anywhere from hundreds to thousands for a single session, but it's the coldest liquid used at -269*C (4*C from absolute zero).

Not so much. My main focus is on 7970's. The other cards don't have nearly the performance of a good 7970 on liquid nitrogen.

I'm currently working on a deal for a 7970. I'd rather not have multiple transactions for expensive cards going at once. If that card doesn't sell, we can work out a deal after I finish this transaction.

I know it's ivy bridge. Do you happen to have the retail box? If so, could I have a picture of the main label that has the numbers and barcodes? That will have the batch number in it.

your welcome and if you still want a gtx680 i might have one in a week or so as customers sometimes buy 1 or 2 gpus and then come back and sell them back to me because they dont want it or it's over kill for their system.

Working on a deal with AndrewK for a 7970. Will update with more details to make it all public.

Also, Wholesaler, I bid on, and won that 3570k, but I haven't been given any way to pay... Not sure what's going on there, but since bids are expected to be paid when an item is won, I should be able to buy it when the auction ends.

I'd be careful with Wholesaler fellas. He's using escrow through bitmit, but it's possible you may receive a box of bricks with tracking. The origin of his cards seems to be different in multiple posts and the 690 I asked for more pictures of was "sold on craigslist" before he could post any pics. He's already threatened another member after backing out on a 680 deal when he missed the shipping deadline. Wholesaler, it's safe to say you are going to need to ship first to earn trust on the forums...

Yeah, no one else bid on the chip, he just doesn't want to sell it. Thanks for the heads up.

Also, deals fell through.

yes you are right no one else bid on it but there was a buy ii now option and someone bought it proof:https://anonfiles.com/file/4b78965447f14a7e1d845aa673aaba3b (https://anonfiles.com/file/4b78965447f14a7e1d845aa673aaba3b)

@blane yes i did get mad but the day he cenceled the order it was still tuesday if he'd said to me where the package it's wed or sunday but  no it was tuesday i didnt say i would ship it out right in the morning so that menat untill midnight i had to ship out this package.

how would sending you bricks help  me scam you if i took pics of me sending out the package and packing it and if you took a video of you going to the post office or where ever you get your mail then you'd simply take pics of you getting it and opening it if i sent you bricks you could send the pics to bitmit admin and the escrow will be released you'd leave a neagative making it so ppl wouldn''t want to buy my wares.

My apologies then. I was just a bit confused because on my page, it says I am the buyer. LOL

I'm really wanting to get a 7970 for those who have them. If the price I have listed doesn't do it for you, we can talk about a price. I'd like to get the card before the end of the month. And just to clarify, I am not mining with the card. I'll be using it for this:

Is that your current rig? Liquid Nitrogen cooled? Overclocking for fun or some kind of contest?

Title: Re: [WTB] High-end Gaming-type Video Cards
Post by: ChanceCoats123 on March 15, 2013, 01:23:45 AM
That's not actually my rig, but I've done all of that before. I own a 150L dewar and all the hardware to use liquid nitrogen. It's only viable for a few hours because of the condensation. But www.hwbot.org keeps track of points and standings in the various benchmark programs. It's a hobby, but a competitive one.

Edit: He are some more gratuitous pictures :)

Bought a 7970 Lightning elsewhere. Looking for other cards only if the deal is good now.

Title: Re: [WTB] High-end Gaming-type Video Cards
Post by: foggyb on March 17, 2013, 12:49:47 AM
I have two 7970 powercolor that are reference layout but not strictly reference design because of different components I believe. Newer EK waterblock fits these.

I won't sell for $300, that is $50 below FMV.

Title: Re: [WTB] High-end Gaming-type Video Cards
Post by: ChanceCoats123 on March 17, 2013, 04:46:45 AM
I'm not in the market for 7970's, but that price is outrageous. I paid less for a Lightning version. Which, by the way, is much harder to find (because they are no longer for sale), and cost $100 more when they were sold retail. So keep your cards and mine away, because there is no way anyone is going to extort me into buying 7970's at $350. I'd rather just buy brand new cards using Occulta's 10% off deal on Amazon than buy a used card for that much. So thanks, but no thanks.
