Title: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp! Post by: nameface on March 06, 2013, 03:25:56 AM I accidentally sent some LTC from BTC-E exchange to my BTC address on a different website.
I'm in limbo right now, my funds aren't showing up anywhere. Don't tell me they can be spent cross-currency like this!? Title: Re: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp! Post by: nameface on March 06, 2013, 03:48:21 AM Ok I realize now that this isn't possible. But my coins are not showing in my balance?!
I've messaged BTC-E, so hopefully I'll get my coins back soon and I'll reply again in this thread. Title: Re: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp! Post by: GoldenWings91 on March 06, 2013, 03:51:02 AM What was the address? Was it accepted into the litecoin block chain?

I don't think they can come back, as far as I know. BTC-e may have a solution but how do I know, I stopped using them because of constant site crashes for me. Title: Re: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp! Post by: nameface on March 06, 2013, 04:17:37 AM Apparently it's impossible to send LTC to a BTC address. I'm waiting for a response from their support.

Post by: casascius on March 06, 2013, 04:25:28 AM If you can get the private key for the BTC address, it can probably be converted to the private key format used by Litecoin. My understanding is the public/private key scheme is identical, just with different flagging bytes to say "this is a litecoin key" etc.
Title: Re: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp! Post by: smoothie on March 06, 2013, 04:40:08 AM Isn't there any ERROR checking in the code that says
Code: if first char of address =/= 'L', then output "you are a dumb - you cant send LTC to that address lol" ? :D Title: Re: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp! Post by: crazy_rabbit on March 06, 2013, 07:44:51 AM You CANT send LTC to a BTC address. So your coins are still at BTC-E. The Litcoin daemon would have never been able to send it.
I'm missing my own LTC withdrawl from yesterday and I didn't make any errors in the address. I guess support is still overwhelmed with everything else. Fingers crossed. Support reimbursed my account without any drama Title: Re: I just sent LTC to a BTC address! Halp!
