Title: "Phishing attempt on bitcointalk email addresses"
Post by: alani123 on June 03, 2016, 01:29:08 AM
Kraken sent out emails to warn about phishing citing the following Reddit post.

Any word from the admins here? Has there been a breach?

There was a big hack a while back when they turned off security questions, due to some of db's being copied. Don't know if they ever posted full extent it was big enough Theymos offered a sizable reward and switched hosts ( I believe it's been a while).

But I'm hoping if it truly is from here it's a old DB from that.   I don't think there has been any new successful attempts.

Perhaps it's related to the hack where social engineering with the ISP was involved. As reported by theymos here (https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/36tqq4/bitcointalk_server_compromised_due_to_social/crh0swt). The post from Reddit I linked in the OP is stickied but there hasn't been confirmation that it was bitcointalk emails, it'd be usefull if someone could tell us if it's just a guess or there's good reason to believe that this phishing attempt is using emails leaked from bitcointalk.org.

The post is still stickied in the subreddit theymos admins but no word from him.
