I am happy to announce that the hardcover Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies - Revised Edition will SOON be ready.

This book is much larger at 8.5 x 11 inches*, as opposed to 6.14 x 9.21 for the paperback version.  The content of the book is the same, but some new coins and manufacturers have been added. Due to the size of the book, there is much more white-space surrounding the content, and it has a much more artistic feel. It is made to be proudly displayed, and it is made to last.

I have decided to offer you all something extra. While the book is being printed in the same type of color as the first version for $150 as promised, a 'Premium Color' version is also being released for $50 extra. anyone who has already ordered a hardcover (AE or not) may upgrade to the Premium Color book for $50. I HIGHLY recommend this upgrade to all AE books.

1-20 will be designated as the 'Autographs Edition'.

The Autographs Edition is truly something special.
It brings together some of the biggest names in physical crypto-currency, and puts their signatures into the book; right on their own pages! What's more, some of these will include the original holograms of these various individuals, providing 'the real thing' right next to the photo! Since this book has ample white-space, the signatures and holograms will appear very clean and well-appointed, whereas they may look more crowded in the original paper-back.

The Story: On May 27th, the creator of the famous Bitcoin Penny posted an image of his signature (and an accompanying doodle) on his page in the book. This inspired bithalo (Howard Kesselman, the book's editor) to collect signatures from the most esteemed crypto-mints, creating sets of signatures. Of these 50 sets, 20 are being dedicated to the Autograph Edition. Of the remaining autographs, 15 are being given to the autographers, and up to 10 are being eventually sold by bithalo as loose sets. These loose sets are perfect for those who already own a paperback Encyclopedia and do not want the larger coffee-table version. The Autograph Edition will contain the following autographs on the corresponding pages:

Is Forum Time in EDT or UTC/GMT? I always assumed UTC/GMT, making that 2pm New York time. Please clarify.. with a link to a clock-site so there is no confusion.

I don't know about you, but my current forum time (top right corner) is 19:23, meaning 7:23pm. That is also the current time in New York (EDT).

And yes, this will essentially be a PM-bombing. I figured that it is nice to try something new. Also, no need to pick numbers; I will allow the 'winner' to pick 6-10 first, and so on.
I will see how this turns out; will maybe take a different approach for Batch 2 later on. I'm interested to see how fast Batch 1 will sell out!

THe timing is so confusing

As an ex-programmer / Linux guy, I would totally love it if people would all use that setting of 0 and just use UTC/GMT, it makes it all much easier when we can all be on the same timezone so to speak. I hadn't thought much about my profile setting on that, so I just changed it now, even though reading the 18:00 EDT is just fine as well! Thanks Lutpin! :)

That said, I doubt anyone will be expecting this to be particularly cheap. It is a combination of the 'base' price for the hard cover, and the label set. You can make an educated guess by knowing that the paperback (with more numbers availible) originally sold for just over $100.

17+ signatures are included, and both comments were made before the holograms were added.

It is also safe to say that the 50 quantity (larger size) hard-cover will have a higher base price then the 100 quantity paper-back.

Another version of the book this early? I can't really say that I like the idea. However, I'll keep my eye out on this one. Things will certainly get interesting once you release the first batch.

To clarify, the book content is the exactly same (save for some spelling corrections, etc). It it just the format that is changing.
That said, a 2017 book is planned for early next year, at which point the collector base has hopefully grown.

I'm pretty sure that's correct, but I don't know the date. If it makes you feel better, I bought a signature series edition of the first one back in like December (I think?), and I am still waiting for it! :D  (PDF is fine for now)!

Just so it is on the record.. the books are being distributed next week! MinerJones is taking care of it, and is excellent at what he does. The delays that took place with the paper-back will not happen this time around :)

12h is not a hard deadline, more to keep the train moving.

Minor book edits are completed
Book size is re-formatted. Cover is designed.
Book is submitted, along with metadata. Allow 1 week for approval
Book is printed. Allow up to 12 business days (hard-covers take longer)
Book is shipped to distributor (2-3 days)

Combined tasks:
Affix all labels to the books
Books are packaged and and sent off to buyers

As tempted as I am, if I had not already bought a signed book, I would try for this, but I think I will have to pass. Good luck to you all, though! :)

Just a heads up that most of the makers have agreed to provide holos so far.  I'm still working on this to try to get confirmation from all the makers who are signing.  Nobody has said no yet.  I'm very excited and appreciate all the support from them.

Not sure what you mean ^^. $400 covers the book and the labels, with the 'normal' books priced at $150, and label base price set by bithalo being $225. Since you have bought books from me previously, you qualify fora discount making it below $400 for an Autograph Edition.

The first batch has sold!

#1 has sold via private sale for $1500.

The number of signatures has now grown to 26, and there will be 12+ holograms, plus unmentioned extras.

Matthew is going through the book looking for needed edits. Looks like there are several on each page... This version will be much better than the original paperback!

The count is currently at 30 coin makers and it may grow a few more.  Almost all coin makers that do holos are providing them so far.  I may even include a few extra holos from makers not on the list to sign.

Just an update...

So far I've received back 11 out of the 30 label sets I mailed out.  I sent a reminder to some coin makers today.  Since I want to have all or the majority back in, it may still be another 6 weeks before the sets are ready for sale.  I would rather delay the sets and provide the largest amount of signed labels and holos as possible than to rush it.  Some coin makers outside of the US may have to deal with slower mail which causes delays.

Maybe there should be a public/private key pair within the Encyclopedia. Then you could say:

"It's a book about physical bitcoins. The beauty is, if you don't have a physical bitcoin, this book IS a physical bitcoin!"

I'll let Elianite confirm, but I believe we will be doing that again, like we did for the Signature Edition softcover.  I expect that minerjones will be assembling them this time using the same holograms I provided for the Signature Edition.

My softcover first edition signature series has a holo on it, but I don't know the public key! ???

Elianite has a list of the public keys for the softcover signature edition.  When he returns from vacation, he can provide that info.

He is also handling sales of the hardcover.  He is handling pricing, generally based on the serial number.  Pricing is likely $550+.

I think a few are left of the Autograph Edition (20 made) and there are more available of the regular Hardcover (30 made), which I believe are $150.

minerjones is handling distribution of the upcoming Hardcovers.

minerjones is putting together the specs/photos/writeup for the new coin makers added to the Encyclopedia.  I'm helping a little with editing.  He will handle sales distribution and assembly of the autographs/holos of the Autograph Edition.

The rest of the text has been edited, but it all needs to be put together in a larger margin format for the hardcover. 

I think timetable is roughly 4 weeks from now to be sent to print, which is coinciding with my deadline for the remainder of the autographs, still to be returned back to me.  I have 23 coin makers out of 34 sent back to me so far.   19 sets of holograms back so far.

Elianite can confirm when he returns from vacation.

Re-format should be ready on Sunday. Printing is expected to begin in a week or so.

About five Autographs Edition's are still available.

As far as the autograph labels/ holos go, I'm waiting on Supreme BTC and Silver Wallets.   The last post in my Autograph thread in my sig is up to date regarding what's included.

Just checking in to see where things are at, time frame estimates to shipping.

From what I know, the hardcover is ready for submission.  Elianite will be doing this very shortly, if not already done.  Once submitted, if approved, printing can start in maybe 3 days.

All the autographs and holograms are done.  I plan to ship the 20 sets for the AE on Monday to minerjones.

Books will be sent to minerjones for distribution.

So we are getting very close.

Will the buyers of the softcover books earlier this year be eligible to receive a digital copy of the revised edition via PDF? As early supporters of the book, it would be nice to have the updates for this year considering that some of us may not be able to afford or have a need for the hardcover.

I think it is fair to strike a middle ground and allow those who do buy the hardcover some 'exclusive' time with it (in the same way that movies come out in DVD well after theater release).

I ordered a soft copy of this from MinerJones shortly before leaving town for work in July. I just go back in town and was excited to check out the book. I would like to make a correction on the CryptoVest section. Hopefully this can be updated in future revisions of the book.

I have no affiliation with the "UK investment club" named Cryptovest, and their logo at the top of the CryptoVest section in the book is not mine. They simply hijacked the name CryptoVest shortly after I came up with it. I am not sure whether they did this unintentionally, or intentionally, nor do I really care. The point being is that CryptoVest physical cryptocurrencies have nothing to do with any investment club, and never have.

Had I known this 6 hours earlier, I could have easily changed it. but now, doing so would mean up to 5 days of additional delay, and I don't think that is fair for everyone.
That said, I will certainly update future editions.

I would like a hardcover book with all the autographs, but only if could swap out my softcover for it. I'm not sure who would want to do this, but let me know if you are or know someone.  :)

I am with you on that. I also bought the softcover and now it feels like it was sort of a waste to buy. IIRC I spent like $200 on it for the "signature" edition.

One thing I want to mention is that the AE hardcover edition won't have the signatures of Mike Caldwell or Matthew Rippon, our co-author.  I especially didn't want to ask Mike since he was kind enough to sign for the softcovers and I wanted to leave something unique for the Softcover Sig Edition.

I also didnt have the nerve to ask.

The softcover was also a first edition, versus the now revised edition in the hardcover.

For me, I would personally want one copy in some form to read and another to put away in mint condition.  Being the collector nutcase that I am, I would want one of both a softcover and hardcover.  

But for someone just wanting one copy, I would completely understand your point.

No worries. I would appreciate updating it in future editions, and I just wanted to make sure everyone knew that I have no association with the CryptoVest investment club.

Another speed-bump:

It turns out that the contents of one of the boxes was not packed properly, and nine Premium books were badly damaged on the edges.
minerjones has only 9 Premium books in good condition right now, which means most books will be delayed. One new box is already printing, and a 2nd box will begin this week.

I will prioritize the 9 books to early AE buyers who do not have other books, like Makers Edition's coming from minerjones (as they can then be shipped together).
If anyone purchased an AE as a gift and needs it delivered ASAP, please contact me and ill put you in priority. I hope you can all be understanding to the fact that I am putting quality first.

For anyone curious, this is a "Maker's Edition" with the optional upgraded premium paper, available to purchase by all coin makers who participated in signing for the project.  It should look similar to the Autograph Edition except for the inside page stamp, which would have different wording and Edition number.  I also imagine the AE will have a holo added to the cover like done for the softcover Sig Edition.  This particular book happened to have a set of labels added.

Just a FYI that loose sets of labels will be available for sale tomorrow morning.
