While I can understand politics, I find it disturbing that we are being conditioned to care more for civilians in our own country than that of others.

I am of course talking about using drone strikes on people in other countries in the first place.

Dear God, five hours? Talk about dedication.

EDIT: My bad, six hours. Much respect.

You're not wrong. On the other hand, charity begins at home (or, in this case, respect for the rule of law).

Well, that was epic.

Definitely. I did not anticipate that I would spend the rest of my day after work watching CSPAN. I do not regret it at all. Rand Paul earned my respect tonight.

I agree that drone strikes shouldn't be used against anyone.  However, if a government does not respect the lives of it's own people, how can you expect it to respect the lives of others?

Cheese and fudging rice.  People are actually rooting for these drones.

Hold me :'(

I thought this was cool until I heard him doing an interview. He said he was planning to filibuster until the WH/POTUS promised they wouldn't use drone strikes against noncombatants, at which point he would vote in favor of whatever the bill is.
The WH has since said it wouldn't.
Unfortunately that's all meaningless stunting because "combatants" includes, let's see, anyone they damn well feel like.

I think it's fairly important. For a long time, but seemingly at an ever-accelerating rate since GWB came in to power, the White house has been adopting a "We can do what we want and not give a damn about laws or congress or the people" stance. It's way overdue that they got called on it.

Of course, this isn't really even a minor speed-bump to that momentum but resistance to it has to start building now (though, again, it's way overdue)

I wish Hugo was still here  :'(

Funny title though.  It is NOT a Fillibuster for Freedom though.  It is a Fillibuster for Due Process.

Just saw that Justin Amash is going to run for the Michigan senate seat, since Carl Levin just announced he will retire. Amash was the member of the house of representatives who voted most similarly to Ron Paul during last legislative session.
