Here is a tutorial: https://coincheck.jp/en/blog/1157
I think that site explains how to do it.

If you haven't followes those instructions, I don't know if u will receive the dao tokens.

if you sent from an exchange then you've lost them. The clear instruction was to send from your own wallet.

That like proof of burn then?

No the exchange will have them under their ETH address.

i sent the 50 ETH from the mist wallet.

the link didnt help me that much, some of it gave me the wrong instructions...

"When Mist is up to date with the blockchain click on the “Contracts” tab, then “Watch contract”. Input the DAO wallet address (0xbb9bc244d798123fde783fcc1c72d3bb8c189413)name the contract to your liking: we used “The DAO” as the name but you can choose any name you like, we have also used Š as the token symbol."

when i click "watch contract" is doesnt show the same options to input info, instead i had to click "watch token" to see the options to input address/token name/token symbol/etc

after that, it shows THE DAO with a value of 33,333,333,333,333,333,333 Š... under custom tokens ( i have 3,333.33 tokens ) all this is so confusing,

whats next???

Most probably your wallet is not fully synced or not syncing properly when you sent those tokens to Poloniex.

Never use "Watch Contract" to watch DAO with Mist...
Mist chokes on all the data and displays erratic behavior...
So you have to remove DAO from "Watch Contract" even if you have to use an older version like 0.5.2

Adding DAO to "Watch Token" is all you have to do...
Then your DAO balance is displayed immediately and you can transfer the tokens to exchanges.
