Title: GPU mining is truelly dead ?
Post by: JasonXG on June 07, 2016, 02:37:42 AM
Ok I won't lie and pretend I know everything because I don't know too much about the smaller details involved in mining but, I was wondering, is GPU mining truelly dead ? I saw a post the other day about a guy mining eth last month. Unfortunately you would make 3x less with todays difficulty compared to them.

I mean even if there are new coins worth mining because they might go up in value would anyone point me in the right direction ?

First: I asked mods to move to alt coins.  Alt coins are the only coins worth mining with a gpu.

Second: eth coins are best coin at the moment.

Third: if you have no in house gear of any kind it is harder to do.

Fourth: if you have a decent atx psu.  you can get into the game.

Fifth: no mobo buy this one

 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157471
cost =    $65.00

no cpu buy this one

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N83U90757    $46.00

no ram

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820156046

$27.00

no hard drive get this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0ZX4685503

$50.00

no os well windows 7 or linux are cheap  real cheap

so for 200 plus a psu and a gpu you are ready.

lots of cheaper psu's out there for 60-75  and a used  r9 390 gpu for 200

so from nothing a 1 card r9 390 for about 500.   and remember it is a real pc.

so figure what 25-28mh  will earn burning 225 watts.

Not really. You're looking in the past when you should be looking in the future. DO you think that people were saying ETH was another scam coin / shitcoin at the start? You bet there were, and I'd wager some of them were mining eth themselves. Just pick an alt coin thats fairly new to mine, look at revolver or vcash for starters. also check out whattomine.com

Mining ETH ,DCR with GPU is still profitable now.

no absolutely, and no, by a long shot, there are many profitable coin lately, not only ethereum, and this counting expensive electricity, let alone cheap electricity like 0.05 or around that

also bitcoin is still increasing, this will put a good edge on the profit, imagines now if bitcoin skyrocket to 800+, everything would be instantly more profitable than what it was 3 months ago with etheruem only

not dead,at least you can mine eth and dcr now.

I think the GPU mining will last at least a year as long as Ethereum mining is still profitable. After that, we will find another one.

GPU mining will always be relevant.  Maybe profitable, maybe not.

CPU mining is what is truly dead.

I agree with this. CPU mining is only good for the Monero. I used to mine Monero with GPU, but not any more.

You'd be better off just buying the cost of a computer by buying that much of the coin. (i.e. If you want to spend $800, spend that much on the coin you want to mine)

in fact some people still mining etherum, i think the GPU mining still life and more profitable than bitcoin mining.

Ethereum is the most profitable to mine at the moment. But the network hash rate is increasing too fast.

If the Ethereum price does not rise, and the network difficulty rise at the current rate, it will not be profitable for me to mine in three months.

I hope by that time, there will be another PoW coin to appear for us to mine profitably, but that is not guarranteed.

I hope the PoW of Ethereum mining will last 5 more years, so that the premine will be reduced to less than 50%.

It is not true. GPU mining for Ethereum is still very profitable. Many people are adding hashing power.

Wow. That was incraedilbly informative. Thank you so so much, you just saved me many hours of reseach I will have  a look and see what ill do from there. I want to also know something else, how long do cards last till they "wear out" ?

It seems to be cyclical.. so right now people are loading up on GPUs and profits will crash.  Then I think it will be bad for a while with giant gpu farms.  Eventually prices crash and people sell their rigs and move onto other things.  Then some PoW thing will launch out of nowhere with improved GPUs and things will rise again. Wash, rinse, repeat.

this exactly what happened with ethereum, everything was dead, then boom again profitable, this cycle is endless

You have to be patient. The interval between boom is quite long. There is not much profit to be made before Eth for a year.

the price of Etheruem is going down at the moment. there might not be much profit to be made from Eth mining soon.
