Title: How can I move my bitcoin address from Qt wallet 4.8.3 to BitcoinCore?
Post by: AlgoSwan on June 08, 2016, 10:33:52 AM
It says "last received block was generated 883 days ago" and blocks remaining number stopped. On bottom left it says "Reindexing blocks on disk".

How can I move my bitcoin address from Qt wallet 4.8.3 to BitcoinCore?

Qt 4.8.3 is NOT A VERSION OF BITCOIN CORE. That is the version of the GUI framework (Qt) that is used by Bitcoin Core. 4.8.3 hasn't been used by Bitcoin Core in a while, so you are probably using 0.9.x or earlier.

You are using old software. I recommend that you first upgrade to the latest software, Bitcoin Core 0.12.1. Let that run and see if that has any issues.

Can you provide the debug.log file?

You probably just need to reindex from start. If that won't help, download newest Core client and run it, it should solve the problem :)

Yes I want to upgrade it to Bitcoin Core 0.12.1. The problem is I can not find private keys of my current bitcoin address located in Bitcoin version v0.8.1-beta client.

There is no need to have to export your keys when upgrading across Bitcoin Core versions. All of the wallets are compatible.

But when I upgraded it into Core 0.12.1, I didn't see my bitcoin address there. So I thought I should uninstall core 0.12.1 and I did and returned back to old one. How can I see my bitcoin address in Bitcoin core 0.12.1? Are you saying that it will automatically transfer my old bitcoin address located on my old wallet into the new version?

It will read directly from the wallet.dat file that you have in your data directory. It does not move anything or transfer anything. It should automatically work with what is already there from previous versions.

When you upgrade, where do you not see your addresses? Do you see any transactions? Does it show you the correct balance?

Go to File > Receiving Addresses and see if you see your addresses there.

If you look at the bottom, it says "Synchronizing with the network". This means that Bitcoin Core is syncing. If it is syncing, you aren't going to see any of your transactions until it syncs up to that point. Also check if it is using the same data directory as the one you were using previously.

Thank you very much. Now I see my address on the file window.

You will probably need to export the private key inside the new wallet.

Although be careful working with private keys is very dangerous. Or there might be some other conversion tool. I`m not sure.
