Title: Why Are My Gridseed Blades Exploding? What Components Are Exploding? Post by: samyoul on June 09, 2016, 05:29:32 PM I'm wanting to get into mining not so much for the mining reward but because I support the idea of decentralised currency and the power of peer to peer transactions.
However I have a problem with getting some Gridseed Blades up and running. Something on them is exploding. Please see the below photos. This is my power supply unit. http://i.stack.imgur.com/83CSN.jpg I live in the UK so the voltage is set to 220V mode. http://i.stack.imgur.com/BPsTD.jpg This is the front of the PSU wired up. My multimeter reads 12v coming from the output. http://i.stack.imgur.com/4grd1.jpg I'm in the middle of building a stack of blades but I need to overcome the problem of something in them exploding. http://i.stack.imgur.com/YMiQ2.jpg In this photo you can see there are three components that have exploded. What are these components? What would cause them to explode? http://i.stack.imgur.com/cEDKl.jpg This photo is for comparison, this is a good blade where the components haven't exploded. http://i.stack.imgur.com/Ifc7e.jpg I've tried to look for a datasheet or a gridseed blade board schematic but I can't find one. Every time I connect a blade to my power supply these same components explode. What could be causing this to happen and what could I do to stop this from happening? Also I would like to repair the Gridseed Blades that have already exploded, is there a schematic for this board, or at least what are the components that have been damaged? The gridseed orbs would pop if you hooked up the power cord improperly, I believe the original power cords that were supplied with the orbs had the wires reversed as in Red = Ground and White = +. This might not be the same issue you were having. Right, I have one Gridseed Blade left to try. These are the original wires. I will test with the wires reversed. You're lucky the WHOLE BOARD didn't overheat and blow up. I agree with the other reply that you likely have a polarity issue - but if you don't get those board reinstalled on the heatsinks and some sort of fan blowing air through the heatsinks you ARE going to have a "all the hash chips overheating and dying FAST" issue. I've already confirmed that it was a polarity issue. They didn't come with heatsinks, and I'm only in the middle of building my set up. Heat management is to follow. I simply need to confirm the boards are working and can hash. At the moment I need now repair the damaged boards by replacing the destroyed components. What components have been damaged? From what I can tell looking with a magnifying glass at one of my blades, they appear to be a ferrite bead - but NO actual value given on them anywhere. Try google. Post by: mjgraham on June 14, 2016, 12:30:42 AM I know there marked FB but they look like 0 ohm resistors, I really haven't seen a ferrite bead marked like that not to say there isn't though. reverse polarity can be really brutal as you can tell, I would bypass them with a bridge of wire to see if they even work anymore, a lot of the time regulators don't survive a reverse polarity hookup. Don't feel to bad I set a A2 has board on fire the other day messing round with it, wasnt due to reverse polarity though.

Your wallet. 1 time okay 2 times i do not know 3 times come on op what are you thinking? Here is some free advice stop and take the loss. Your skills at trouble shooting electrical gear are pretty lacking. Or worse you are pretty good but have far too much disregard for safe electrical procedure. My advice is don't fiddle with the stuff. you may hurt more then a pcb component |
