Scientists at Cornell University in the US claim that they can grow a new ear within days by using 3D computer printers and living-cell gels, in an advance that could help hundreds of children born each year missing one or both natural ears.

3D printing has been encroaching on just about every aspect of human life, particularly in the last few years.   As subjects go, it is as involved as bitcoin in some sense.

Though I doubt that it will get FDA approval anytime soon, the PLA which many consumer 3D printers use is not incompatible with medical purposes.  Do check out the work of Jordan Miller for some neat thoughts in this regard:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fqlhDSDWtvc
