Mitsubishi UFJ has plans to become the first major bank to issue a virtual currency. I doubt if any private company backed alt can be a rival to Bitcoin, given the negativity associated with Wall Street and their counterparts across the world. Essentially they are just using it to transfer money so there will not be an exchange other than the bank. I don't think it will take off at all...
