GPU miners are a bad idea because some of the comps. in your botnet might not even have OpenCL enabled graphics cards and probably a very small amount has a proper 5xxx series card.
To ensure max. stability and avoiding detection, various CPU schemes are the best (like BCP.com). You could try a hidden command line gpu miner that attempts using 10-20% of any available GPU power if you want to take a risk. If I were you though, I wouldn't run any of the zombs at full CPU usage. You will be detected and possibly lose a lot of network potential due to people using malware cleaners etc. to figure out where the slowdown is coming from. Limit to 25%, in my opinion. Anyways, if you think you can get away with the power consumption, target both GPU's and CPU's (though if I were you I'd do due diligence and make sure the computers even have a decent GPU at all). Bear in mind that only OpenCL enabled graphics accelerators will be able to mine. Besides those, you are limited to CPU power. You can try installing Diablominer and setting low aggression on all the machines. In the best scenario you can net at least 1mhash/s per computer or more, which is at least 6000mhash/ 6ghash per second. I have access to each one and after 5pm they go into Zombie mode. I would like to have it such that when there is no user activity the usage goes to around 50% and when there is activity it goes to maybe 10%. What is the best way for me to get the best bang for my buck with a single .exe that I can deploy across most machines. Should I aim for GPU or CPU? Should I aim for high or low priority and should I be looking to get the maximum performance or average? Finally what is the suggest application to use to mine? Legally the bitcoins you mine belong to then company that owns the hardware and pays the electric bills, so your actions are no different to stealing cash or equipment from them. I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying that I hope this job and your career in IT is worth a lot less than the bitcoins you'll get. At the end of the day, they remain on at night and I am looking to run them around 20-30%. Expect that a lot here..... I think, in order, the top 3 things I read are: #1 Killowatt to hash ratio is bad! #2 You'll get fired and sued for mining bitcoins! #3 CPU hashing is inefficient! On the PCs I (ab)use, I just set up scheduled tasks to run after 10P and kill any miners before 8A. I mean, nothing can beat the ease of use as far as just booting up a browser, but surely there is something more effective.
