McAfee to provide security for cryptocurrencies
John McAfee’s new company MGT Capital Investments plans to release blockchain security products as it hires Roger Ver and ShapeShift’s Erik Voorhees as cryptocurrency advisors.

Would it not just be better, if one of the major Anti-virus software companies could start accepting Bitcoin as a payment method for their software and subscription updates? I do not know of ONE of

these companies, who accepts Bitcoin. I would switch tomorrow, to a company that accepts Bitcoin for yearly subscriptions. Why do we need to use legacy payment options like Credit cards to pay for

this software and the yearly subscriptions? You use a poor option to secure your computer from threats and in the process expose your CC details to whoever is watching. {Already installed spyware or

key loggers.}  ::)

I have, um, bad news for you: the whole point of the anti-virus software industry was always (and still is) a way of extracting more money out of the typical user. There have been expose's and rumours in the past of anti-virus software companies writing viruses themselves when the natural supply of viruses dries up (and those software companies were always well placed to write their own viruses, as their industry position as "security" experts made it easy to justify getting a source code licence for Windows or OS X).

Moral of the story? Don't use operating systems that "require" anti-virus. If such OS's were half way secure to begin with, viruses would be much, much less common and possess far less capability to cause damage to your computer.

I completely agree Mr Banks. Most viruses are produced by these ripoff antivirus companies in order to extract money from the average windows user for a program that is expensive & offers little or no protection whatsoever, when in fact there are free antivirus programs out there that do a better job - take a look at this:

Look where McAfee & most other "well known" antivirus companies rank in these tests - between zero & poor/very poor

I hate using windows, but I do have one PC that I use it with & have been using Comodo for over 10 years - never had a virus & it's free. It has also been at the top of this list as long as I can remember.

No special protection is needed & if any expensive antivirus company says it is, they are simply trying to sponge yet more cash out of poor windows users.

As Mr Banks says, if you want to be safe, don't use windows. If you do use windows, never pay for software - the best is always free.

Agree, this is just another money grabbing attempt at something you really cannot grab money from.  This won't be the first mainstream company you see attempting to offer services for Bitcoin, services it does not need.
