Yea fauceting is nothing serious, its only for testing bitcoin. Just download the free guide in my signature and see all the methods available that I know of. GL!

What was the first thing you did with your first $100 of bitcoins?
Is $100 worth attempting to invest for trading?
What are some honest sites that actually give bitcoins without ripping people off excluding faucets?

How about mining now?

you can't mine with your PC like before anymore, you will need ASIC miners which if you ask me is not worth the investment, also you will end up paying a big electric bill.

p.s we don't need a topic for "ask question here" .
it is better if people search their questions in the forum first and if they don't find it "start a new topic" about it. this way others can see the question and answer it and also others who might have the same question can find their answers easier this way .

Just click on my signature and see.

I think investing with any amount is good, especially lower amounts until you learn how to do it profitably, the lower you start the more safe. In bitcoin you can even start with 5$.

I got a thread here about some investments:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1136572.0

How about mining now?

You need to buy mining equipment for 1000$'s of dollars.

Don't bother mining with your PC because it's not fast enough.

How about mining now?

I'm going to go with trading...

Then choose a reputable exchange, there are some exchanges that have been hacked many times are looking very shady.

What is the safest way to semi-anonymously purchase bitcoin online? I'm not interested in meeting a stranger in a dark alley, or providing my bank account details.

I'm in the US.

Is there a forum or thread where one can test their posts (to check for formatting / viewing / etc.)?

i think there is no way to purchase bitcoin semianonymously, but you can trick it with purchase it via 3rd party like vcc card or any giftcard, just buy those cards with your fiat then convert them to the bitcoin, i always convert my amazon gift cards to bitcoin, but i dont recommend this way since you will pay more to get your bitcoin, unless you really need it,btw just my thought

I am wondering if I am considered member or full member?

Was reading up on 2 different ICO ann's and I could earn points for repping them in my signature but it mentions different membership levels.

Also I conveniently was planning on getting the RX 480 coming out before even peeking at Bitcoin recently. What's the best way to recognize a failed or dying altcoin? I'm sure the top 30 for market cap has some dead coins with no future? Maybe I need some newbie education but I believe that BCN for example has been declining in value and other currencies above it now are more advanced such as Monero. So is it safe to say BCN has no future or are there more things that could happen in the markets to take us all by surprise?

You're not yet a "member", your current rank is "newbie", it'll take a few weeks of regular posting to reach member status.

I think 24 hr volume is a good indication of how popular a coin is although you would still need to be careful. Just do a lot of research, monitor the ANN threads and keep up to date with what's happening. It also depends on what you want from the coin, some coins are not around from very long but you can still make nice money if they experience a pump and dump. If you want to hold mid to long term then how old the coin is is an important factor, coins that have been around for a while have less chance of a sudden collapse. But there are exceptions to every rule, research is key. Good luck!

Use the Currency Exchange section of this very forum. Find there persons who have a lot of history and trust from buying and selling bitcoins, you can buy with perfectmoney for example if you want to stay semi anonymous, to make sure you will not get scammed, try to buy bitcoins only from persons who have threads with a lot of pages and a lot of trust in them. Since you are a newbie in this forum you have to send first to them, and I am sure you will not get scammed if you choose the right person, as they will not lose their reputation build over years to just scam some random person from the USA. So Currency Exchange in this forum is your best bet.

Depends where you are located, try buying from an exchange:

http://kraken.com/        -> europe

https://www.coinbase.com/  ->us

https://exchange.btcc.com/ ->china

I am wondering if I am considered member or full member?

your rank is under your name

Just look at the daily volume, if the volume is low ,or it's shrinking constantly, then its a dying coin.

Paypal isn't a common way to buy bitcoin because it can be refunded which makes it dangerous for sellers, the only real exchange I know of is VirWox, however you need to be careful as,they charge quite a lot for withdrawing your bitcoins (0.004 BTC last time I checked), you of course always use localbitcoins.com or this forum for trading but then you need to watch out for scammers. In general it's easier (and cheaper) to buy bitcoins with another payment method.

Thanx for answering. One more adjustment. Which payment methods are the most common-used and safe?
Btw can you specify what do you mean by 'dangerous for sellers?'.

I mean that the seller takes a risk because when he gives you the bitcoins and you give him money via paypal, you can run off with the bitcoins and ask for a refund with paypal and get your money back while still having the bitcoins for free. :)
Common methods are bank transfer, credit card or cash via localbitcoins.
