I don't see a problem with the draw and group buy? If the books are serial numbered then will the draw speak for it self. If the draw is order based, then will the group buy organizer just make a local draw between the buyers. If you trust the group buyer with your bitcoins, then surely can you also trust him to make a fair draw. You can even have a trusted 3rd party to do the draw, but that would hardly be necessary with Mitchell or MJ as organizers. I think it is by book number, maybe it didn't specify Also something about a provably fair seed but either way I think this will be pretty simple Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: Lutpin on June 17, 2016, 04:46:15 PM Up next: That would be a boring book. I'm down for one of these via group buy. And if it turn out NOT being a hokey cash-grab, maybe we can convince Mike to sign a few (like Elianite's book) :P Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: photonresearch on June 18, 2016, 01:54:13 PM ;D ;D

Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: elianite on June 27, 2016, 06:19:17 PM Received my book today...... The overall quality of the book is nice but for what we getting, the asking price of $150 seems way off...... 15 sentences and 42 pages of almost the same picture. The glossary at the end was surprising!! And why not mention the Kialara bar that is involved in the pictures as well? Your idea was great, but for what you are asking and what we are getting, this is disappointing. Just my 2 satsohi..... Thanks It is important to remember that low quantity book printing is not cheap. That said, I'm asking $89 shipped for my book, which is 270 pages of color with 550+ pictures. I would venture a guess that the model & photography was not cheap either! That's not justify the requested amount in finality ( for what we are supposed to get in hand after buying.. Received my book today...... Thanks i totaly agree with you minerjones .. for what i have saw of this book , an amount of 150 $ is absolutely unjustified. i understand theres' a work under it , model is not cheap ( or free ) ( and she need to eat .. ) , etc etc .. but asking an amount of 150$ for this book is not fair ... sorry .. That's my own opinion , and it's engage only myself... feel free to disagree with this point of view. defcon23 Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: BitcoinAccepted on June 27, 2016, 07:41:35 PM If people want to donate me some physical coins I'm happy to slap a few pictures of my cock next to them and sell them back to you for $150.
Have I missed the point here or what? What is the purpose / content of the book? Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: elianite on June 27, 2016, 08:31:39 PM Quote It is important to remember that low quantity book printing is not cheap. You may have missed my main point, which was essentially that if I can make a profit by charging much less for a book with 50 times the content (still having color photos), $150 does seem like a little too much in comparison. I would not buy at that price.. Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: naypalm on July 02, 2016, 11:42:27 PM Neat! How does each book have a unique identifier or did I read that wrong?
Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: photonresearch on July 07, 2016, 08:35:01 AM Neat! How does each book have a unique identifier or did I read that wrong? Each book owner is entitled to an associated Counterparty token everyone gets a counterparty token sent to an address they control and if they sell the book on the after market, make sure the new buyers gets the token too Title: Re: Chasing Casascius Post by: fluffypony on July 18, 2016, 11:00:34 AM Did anyone else order the book? Are Mike and I the only ones who get to oogle the gold bar!!! :P thanks Mine arrived today: https://twitter.com/fluffyponyza/status/754978006255472640 In terms of price, I view this as a coffee table book (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coffee_table_book). Here are some other hard-cover coffee table books to provide a price comparison: $290: https://www.amazon.com/South-Africa-Hoberman-Collection-1999-05-04/dp/B01FIZW5AE $675: https://www.amazon.com/Tom-Ford-Years-Graydon-Carter/dp/0500511977 $300: https://www.amazon.com/Beach-Richard-Misrach/dp/1597110485 $620: https://www.amazon.com/Tea-Tea-Table-Eighteenth-Century-England-Ben/dp/1848930259 Of course you also get coffee table books that are $15, but I don't think the $150 price for this was overly harsh given the small run. In deference to what defcon23 stated above, I feel that paying a premium for a limited edition is completely justifiable. Even if this book goes on to produce a second print, the first edition will still have been a limited run, and would remain collectible. |
