I think the harddrive would not be readable anymore and you'd have to factor in the cost of getting that data back. it may become a point where the value of those might be worth buying the land and excavating all the waste the hard drive holds 7,500 bitcoins. so only time can tell if its worth the cost to "mine" it with excavators and sweat I'm also guessing that if you'd have to wait for a couple of years to find it and dig it up, the data could very well be irretrievable. Title: Re: 'Mine bitcoin in real life' Post by: Yakamoto on June 16, 2016, 11:08:19 PM If there were Bitcoin deposits, the only way I would actually put effort into mining them would be if the land wasn't owned by people and I was free to mine the Bitcoin and extract it as a resource, and if I didn't have to put in $50,000 just to locate a deposit. Even if it was a moderate challenge to extract it as opposed to just locate it, then I would be more interested. But having to put massive amounts of money in just to find a deposit wouldn't be worth it.

If you find any, you will be very lucky. Most likely the seller would have scanned the HDD before selling it to you. Even if the seller does not know about bitcoin, the common practice is the format the HDD before selling it to others. |
