Title: Okay. What is Stream (APP) SDK for?
Post by: OCedHrt on June 11, 2011, 07:14:56 PM
I don't have it installed and GPU mining on my ATI 4850 is working - although my card heats up and then drops to lowest clocks.

ATI Stream is essentially their implementation of opencl - the driver that allows you to mine on your ATI GPU

the SDK is refered to because you can download 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 - 2.1 being the fastest by far

install 11-5 drivers without ati stream 2.4 - or goto uninstall programs -> catalyst manage/change -> uninstall ATI Stream 2.4/etc

download and install 2.1

easy

So basically Stream SDK is already installed with the driver and we should switch to 2.1?

yes

Thanks for the answer. I don't think it matters for me - my card hits 110C and it downclocks to 500/750.

that matters a lot! youll eventually kill the hard if your running it so hot, it should be 80c or under

up the fan speed to a fixed max of 60 or 80%

It depends on the miner kernel you use. I have better results than anything else with 2.4 + phatk kernel. So for me, the 2.4 is the fastest.

whats the difference between poclbm -v -w 128, with 2.1 vs the phatk kernel? and what settings do you use ?

My fan speed is already at 100%. Let me try a different gpu miner. I don't get such high temps using F@H for GPU though.

Im using phoenix with the phatk kernel with 2.4. Phatk is designed for the 2.4 stack, and for me is faster than any other combination. I use VECTOR IBF_INT AGRESSION=12 WORKSIZE=256

Worksize=128 worked better at stock speed and light overclock, but when I overclocked over 1000MHz it was better workize=256.

Thanks for the info. Vector slows down hashing on my 4850. I will try BFI_INT but I think it may be the same. Recommendations I read are that BFI_INT is for 5xxx+. Also optimum worksize for 4850 seems to be 64.
