Im new to all this I have read thru a lot of the stickies and couldn't find anything for mining with a lap top. Can you do it? Laptops can't handle 24/7 heat buildup the way a well vented PC can. You would earn $20 in BTC and have a dead laptop.

TY Bits I was kind of thinking that cause I downloaded one of the mining programs and just for about a half hr it got really hot so I immediately turned the program off. Even a $380 video card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125413) will make you just 0.06 BTC a day.

I got an old compaq with an old motherboard, I'll be searching for spare parts for that to build a custom tower for mining.

If you order a card online and wait a week for it to come the BTC difficulty will have already jumped 20%. GPU mining probably has 2 months or less. There's no point to learning how to do it now except to just learn the process (since difficulty is skyrocketing so earnings are getting slimmer and slimmer).

I am a total noob when it comes to litecoin, but Im gonna assume its mined the same way btc is mined. Hows the difficulty with LTC? I would assume its rising quickly along with btc.

Tell me more Title: Re: Lap Top Mining Post by: corbs132 on March 11, 2013, 01:56:05 PM litecoin is scrypt, as opposed to bitcoin's sha256. scrypt is a more memory intensive algorithm, and takes more power than sha256. the cards will be hotter and draw more electricity.
