Title: Poloniex is randomly blocking IP adresses
Post by: CryptoGuu on June 19, 2016, 11:12:59 AM
I can only recommend to anybody to move over to Bitfinex in the next comming days for ETH trading. There is not even one more reason to trade on Poloniex ETH compared to Bitfinex

happens to me after being out of the community for a couple of years and now trying to claim back some coins from exchanges...
They must be run by kiddies who don't beleive I have the right to access my accounts now that I'm in some small African country.
So much for worldwide cryptocurrency adoption!  :-\

Trading is all about split second timing. Having to contact support to get them to whitelist your ip address could take days during which you could lose most of your money. Poloniex should make a statement about the likelyhood of your ip being blocked and the reasons for it.

What is the big deal? We live in 2016 and you can change your IP whenever you want to and how often you want to.

true.

and trading on poloniex last couple of days really sucked
platform is great, volume is really high, but lag and clogged UI made me sick

they should write a client application instead if a web app, javascript and http are too slow for trading

and btw there is a DDOS attack going on now against poloniex, that's why some IP are blocked

It must be a hell of a headache running a high volume crypto exchange. Always one mistake/hack away from Big Verne territory.

This situation has been going on and off for two days, since the DAO attack. I think it is mainly caused by the DDos to cause panic.

I had the same issue some time ago when I logged into Poloniex over a public WiFi hotspot once. When I was at home again my Polo account was blocked. I contacted the support and it told me that someone previously logged in over this hotspot has tried to scam and therefore this IP/account was blocked. Fortunately, I did not have any coins on the platform. I have never traded on Polo again since then.

Polo is actually pretty solid on customer support imo, current fiasco aside, they seem like they would be extremely helpful if someone got inadvertently blocked and it was not obvious they weren't malicious. But, these are strange times right now.

Now if this was yobit...

I Have never had a problem with Poloniex. I don't like that they started demanding real name and territory to even crypto->crypto traders but everyone uses fake country and fake names anyway and nothing happens.

OP just get a VPN. Maybe TOR can be used in Poloniex too??

may be you are using too many accounts(alts) and spamming the chatbox or may be using shady methods from alt accounts to advertise your shit coin on chatbox.

...May be.

just use a VPN. there are a lot VPNs out there and you can pay them with your BTC.

i recommend this VPN: https://www.ipredator.se

btw: btctalk blocks IPs too.

The timing is interesting that it is occurring around the DAO attack.  Does not seem like they are over with the DAO either and anything really associated with cryptos.  I am able to access polo fine.  Does anyone know why someones IP would be blocked?

Apparently there was a pretty heavy DDoS attack this morning (EU time)

The mitigation measures temporarily shut out entire IP ranges. All seems to be fine now.

I just tried to login with my account in poloniex and it worked for me to login there. The recent drama about ETH and poloniex is taking to much attention and lots of users seems to be affected by this, gladly that i removed my funds from there.

Presumably IP ranges from Russia and other known sources of DDoS attacks?

I wonder why people are DDoSing them - what do they have to gain from it?
