Title: 0.7.2 vs .8 - Nothing but trouble!
Post by: Netprofits on March 11, 2013, 02:22:40 PM
I let my quad core try to sync v.8 of the wallet run for over two days and it never passed 21466 or something and just stayed there.  So, I restored back and v.7 is working fine again.  So, I try to install v.8 on a unit that is brand new.  It will not sync AT ALL.  A new wallet will not sync? I am very skilled with Tor so I cannot figure this out at all unless it is pure volume???

So, I restore again to v.7 and although my funds appear, I cannot sync!  The qt v.8 has never synced since I installed it on the I7 PC.  WTF is going on here?

1) If I do get one of these wallets syncing, can I transfer the money even though the version with the funds in it is not in sync?

have you tried syncing without going through tor?

i upgraded to v.8 without any trouble

also if both computers arnt syncing and your not using tor then id imaging your ISP really hates P2P connections and is limiting them to and extreme state you could try http://proxpn.com/ get a free VPN very very slow but free is free  ;)

as to 1 there are ways to do it but it is pretty anoying its easier trying to figure out how to get your wallet to sync
also dont forget to back up your wallet with money in it just incase something does go wrong

I always backup and set restore points, but thank you!  So many don't.

Conclusion:  I started using PIA VPN and my wallets starting syncing almost immediately!  GREAT JOB helping out!   +5

:) not a problem its such a shame that bitcoin uses P2P when ISPs start limiting p2p traffic

you might even find that in a few days your wallet will act fully normal without using tor or VPNs you might just have hit the limit of what your ISP allows for P2P traffic on your connection per week or month

anyhow glad to help and back to WorldOfTanks i go  ;D

Dropping Tor and using VPN for syncing worked great.  I wonder if you did not go through a VPN, exactly what security you might be giving up?  Anything substantial?

it depends but realistically next to nothing as bitcoin isnt illegal i don't use a VPN at all just let it go straight through my ISP bitcoins are incredibly hard to pin down for any evidence if you did sell illegal goods

and i believe many many people dont use anything like VPNs or Tor

its your choice really most ISPs dont really care aslong as your not downloading mass amounts of P2P data (which syncing a wallet from scratch does)

I was not so much worried about what I do (investing long, short, and often daily) but where those coins came from (drugs purchases and the like) and if the coppers might be asking me about them at some point about the coins.  That was my main concern about security and the practice of always using Tor or a VPN to make it harder and or safer to get traced or annoyed by the police.

Thanks again, mate!

:) your welcome and bitcoins (when used by those sorts of people) have been cycled through lots of accounts first (dont ask me how i know) so id say unless you have delt with a drug dealer directly and left proof of you bitcoin address everywhere on tor for selling drugs your safe  :D
