Title: Bitcoin have lost more than $100 in a day...
Post by: spartak_t on June 21, 2016, 01:58:10 PM
The price on BTC-e is $614 as we speak. Any reason for this?

No real reason except that Bitfinex coincidentally went offline earlier today during the price drop.  Hopefully everything is ok.  But some members of the forum are skeptical.

I also think that the price drop has to do with the upcoming britain leaving europe possibility.

Anyways, the price drop is okay, might go back to 580, and nxt week will be around 700 again... when halving comes my guess is it will have reached 850

peace

"Greedy" people suddenly getting scared. These markets are completely insane sometimes.
In the "good old days" we had bounces from $26, 28, ~$32 down to $10, back up to ~$30, down to $14, up to $25, and later down to $1.9992, or very similar.
Good times for brave traders....

Looks normal to me. Speculators drive up the price then sell off when they fear a dip. No mystery here.

The price is decreasing because of the huge sell order received in various forms. In exchanges and offline also.

Chinese people just used bitcoin to send money outside the country and some traders have ridden the tide to make big profit out of it.

Now they are squaring off their position and the price is dropping. It is quite normal for any exchange traded currency.

Have a lot of reason for this because many people get a panic from The DAO cases it gives a big effect for this, and few times before the halving time I think it's became one of a factor and another reason.

Yezzir, it always seems to recede a little  when we make some solid progress. I think we still have some more upward progress to achieve, but the uneducated fear selling in this market is the only reason why btc is so volatile ATM.

I also think the DAO has shaken general trust in cryptos. Most people aren't savvy, they just lump all coins and related techs into a single basket.

I think that the price is in a reverse but it will bounce back up. I guess we will still see the price going up and passing the $1000 mark before the halving.

Probably. Imho, the recent rise in price was not normal so...

Tell me about it.... I somehow tried to warn people (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1504662.msg15148011#msg15148011), but.....

I didn't loose a single Bitcent. All are still sitting nicely in my wallet.

Some trader-type investors are apparently buying fiat money today. Seems like they expect a huge valuation boost because the Brexit may not happen. I seriously doubt this will be the case.

I admit that I strongly dislike these value comparisons that use fiat money as a base reference. For me, Bitcoin is the reference, because Bitcoin is sound money. I don't care if fiat is traded higher compared to Bitcoin, because I have no intention of ever selling my Bitcoin for fiat. And in the end, inflationary devaluation is a certainty when holding fiat.

More sellers than buyers, that's usually what accounts for this.  Bitcoin is volatile,  but we all knew that.  I'm holding and I'm not going to sell.

I agree, for whatever reason it dropped, now is a good price to buy at.  I think we will see it go back up to at least mid 700s or higher in a reasonable amount of time.  Just some nervous selling going on currently.

Now it seems up and running again but let's see what happens since some panic has started

It went up too fast, and all those people who bought at $700+ two years ago sent their coins to the exchanges and sold. It was bound to happen. It is only when all the 2014 lot have finally sold will the market have cleared properly and be ready for a genuine push up.

For experienced traders, this change in the bitcoin price is very normal, but for those who do not have any clue on market dynamics, it seems to be horror to them. There is no rule that says the price has to go up only. It might be bullish but there might be lows and highs as the price progresses. The change is that a normal market dynamic that happens with other trading currencies and commodities. You can expect it to down further and start going up again.

Exactly. They buy btc just as a way of getting money out of china. Now probably selling out to fiat, once they transfer what they wanted.

I guess this is the effect of halving, people might panic because when bitcoin prices fell below $ 50, many people will sell their bitcoin. but I am pretty sure the price of bitcoin is still going to grow back

There are two reasons for this drop
1) Bitfinex was offline
2) $19 Million in Bitcoin were sold in Australia
Anyway i believe that the price will increase again in the next weeks ups and down are normal in bitcoin and people should not panic.

Yeah better to have patience and wait till the halving, as price will again start moving up when halving comes near, so hold your coins till then and sell when you see higher price.

He was just trying to be cute, that's all, and to show his misplaced confidence in bitcoin.

Just as I had feared, btc's going back to its darkside. The Chinese pumpers have run out of newer fools with cash. It's all down hill from here, good news is it's not going to be a 2-year slog like it did before from 1200 to 200 in 2014-2015. We will only slide from 800 to 200, a few months at most. Best to buy'em on the dips, they say.

The day after tomorrow is Brexit, some Currency guru's said that Brexit will happen so maybe the die hard investors want to quickly short the GBP so they can make some good cash on it.
Else I can't explain a decrease of over 100 dollars.

Don't think that is it, for the simple reason that it is much easier to acquire ETH by trading your BTC for it, not selling your BTC than transferring money than buying ETH with USD.

I don't see any reason for this panic dump, people may have thought bitfinex will have same issue like cryptsy or mtgox and start dumping whatever coin they have. This price could be good point to buy back as we may see 100$ pump tomorrow again to go over 800$. ;)

I also think that the price drop has to do with the upcoming britain leaving europe possibility.

How would that be related? I could find arguments for brexit to drive BTC price up not down.

Upcoming is the referendum, which is non-binding anyway. Even if 'Leave' wins, the exit wouldn't happen any time soon.

people nowadays are very sensitive when it comes to exchanges going down. they directly start thinking negative and start dumping as result. bitfinex is up and running again. i think we'll definitely get to see a good pump before the block halving. chances to see $1000 prices before the block halving have gone down, but even reaching $800 would make a lot people happy.

I feel like a moron for not taking my own advice on Friday and buying coins way higher than I should. But not panicking yet, as I think 800 is more likely than 600 in two weeks.  Enough time for gains for my shirt to re-threaded and recomposed.

This is totally a buy back in day.

To anyone who missed out prior before it rises again towards $800 I say this is a good bargain.

Prices can go back and I wouldnt heavily rely on btc-e to dictate the price. I would look at bitstamp and the chinese exchange more.

I don't see this correction, as a big problem, before that 100$ down, bitcoin price scaled from 400$ to 750$. Now 650$ looks as an small correction, traders could take some profits, and others will buy at this level expecting more increasings.

It's a perfect day for day traders dreaming of such volatility. It is however not that nice for people who bought themselves some coins above the $700 level previously. Let's just hope this was the worst part of the correction and that it will go up from here.

Yup!

Bitcoin actually depends upon "volatility."

That's not a bad thing.

It's like a pulse, or the ebb & flow of the tide;  otherwise all you have is stagnation.

The thing is, we can truly expect some more big movement as word of the  BTC halving gets around....

It started even sooner than I expected.

I've been buying small amounts weekly all year at $400-$500 & once at $590   ;D

Like everyone else here, wishing I could afford to buy more during this dip.

There are high chances its heading back down from one of those levels though, most likely, but anything is possible of course and the uptrend is a strong one, so be careful (long term uptrend) sellers already stepping in and rejecting higher prices, buyers stronger tho still so far, gonna be surprised if they can take it much higher made it right through 675, looking pretty strong so far;starting to look like it may be a reversal, but still needs to get above 690 resistance area

I see the downtrend has already started. Which means forget 100 dollar, it will go much lower then 100 dollar. I don't expect it to go to 350 but yes nobody knows and anything can happen.
The only thing we should be careful now is to not fall into panic selling.

It's selling for $590 on Coinbase, ATM.

Last time I bought at $590, it was $599 ten minutes later, then $600..$700... almost $800 within a week ... and I spent some on foodler.com @ $770.   :D

That is hilarious to see how quickly it is going down like it went up, i think it is normal and we are at price correction phase so after this another bubble will happen soon.

It was to be expected. The price has been this irregular for years, traders have coped up, they knew what's coming. Probably a lot of newcomer speculators are now on a panic selling spree.

While others are on a panic buying spree haha! I do wonder when the price will stop dropping though. I bought at $770 and now I regret it. It's a good thing that throughout my time with bitcoin, I've learned to control my emotions when trading and just shrug those things off sometimes.

But things are definitely getting interesting with this year's halving. Good luck to us all, I guess.

Just keep holding your coins as that is the best thing to do. You only lose money when you sell. If you have some free to spend money left, then you can buy at these prices to get the average price of your coins down.

Yeah if you have spare money then you can buy some bitcoins now, as price has really gone down so, its better to buy and hold those coins for the halving.

These are actually exciting times. When the price reached $800, I was thinking of buying some thinking that it could go even higher. But I eventually decided to just wait and see what the next price action will be. And now, we are at $590, and I was able to buy a few at $560. Lucky for me that I didn't buy when we were touching the sky.

Yeah, but it looks like it's stabilized around $590? It went to $570 for a while then it bounced back up to $590. Maybe that was the crash and we'll be stable / going up from here until halving.

Well, some people are suggesting that it has something to do with Brexit, and it could be exactly that.

I would actually like to see the bitcoin price being stable at around $600 though. That should be a fair price since the miners are still going to make a decent profit off their machines after halving.

It's just a freaking bear trap, just like what happens in the past few pumps. Nobody would let these bubble pop too early seeing that there are still many people eager to throw their cash at bitcoin hoping for some piece of profit. It was a nice opportunity to buy a few coins for those who have cash to spare, imo.

they sold at the bottom, and the price directly went up like $100 again. they must feel horrible seeing the price somewhat recovered again. that's why you should never trade with emotions. it mostly ends up in something bad.

Yeah I agree with you. Despite of that im happy to see that bitcoin is rising again. I hope it will rise more this weekend.
i think your speculation is very conservative and correct. bitcoin will hit the 1000 dollar mark very easily as supply diminishes.

although this $100 rise was because of the brexit but even if that wasn't today i believe that bitcoin price would have gone up again but it might have taken a little bit longer than only one day.

Here's another theory.  The Waves people must have something to do with it.

Quote

Please don't accuse me of FUD.  Can we get a clear answer from Sasha or the Waves team???

https://blockexplorer.com/address/3DWBSSAue32YS8PcW2gLs6m52BCCv3UgDA

Of the 30,000 BTC raised, they've already withdrawn 11,445 in the last few days!  Where is this money going, what is it being used for?

To put things in perspective, that's roughly $6.867 million USD!  And they still can't get listed on Poloniex?  There is something seriously up.  If this was a business on the stock market, investors would be filing complaints with the SEC.

I am seriously worried, the price of Waves keeps dropping more and more below the ICO.

Monthly updates are not good enough.  I'm afraid by the end of the month they will have withdrawn all the ICO funds!

What the heck is seriously going on?

Where is the money going?  Why do they need $6.9 million USD for a Chrome extension???  There is no marketing or major developments.  You don't need $6.9 million USD for a SMF free software-based forum.  This is whole situation is getting worse everyday.

Source (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1524111.0)

Could it be possible for that much BTC to cause a big fall in price if it were all dumped at BTCe?

The problem with these rapid increases is that you know for sure that the price will go down again. That's why I prefer to see a slower but more stable growth. I am interested in the coming few days as I think the price will fall back to very low $600's, and maybe even below $600.

We're back in the mid 600's now, still so much higher than as recently as a few months ago.

I and many of my friends bought over 2 BTC yesterday for $1100 which wasn't a bad deal. Today the price has already reached $650+ and hence, there is no harm in expecting a good profit for all bitcoiners. It only needs patience and trust in bitcoins and hence we can see many users who have been holding since 2015.

People do make threads on bitcoin price rising but it's sad to see this behavior of bitcoins to fluctuate by over $200 in just a week. It was high all this time and the price rise did not even last for a month. It just took 12 days for it to drop and hence it makes many users lose. That's what I feel risky to invest over $500 in BTC.

Actually the bitcoin price has been so volatile these last weeks that it seems to exclusively follow pure speculation. In fact I had never observed a direct relation between global market trends and the bitcoin behavior, which seems to have a very particular and independent behavior.

Yes, bitcoin is unstable and it will remain unstable unless all of the coins are mined and all of the people around the world adopt and start to use it, but even after that the price will not stable but will rise continuously, the good thing at that time will be that none of the drop will occur.

It's over $630 now and I fear it may drop even more till halving ends. It's just a test period and we shouldn't actually watch the price but see what has bitcoins gained. There are so many articles now written on bitcoins because of its price and now it's best to hold rather than buy/sell. Just watch where it goes.

thats true, it would be really bad if bitcoin price wouldnt grow before and after the halving as it would be not profitable for most of the miners to mine bitcoins im pretty sure that would destroy bitcoin

the price is not falling so fast any more to be honest and i really hope that it will show only upward trend from now on because it would surely attract many people to bitcoin then

I think whales are looking to keep the price down a few more days to make people sell their coins at current rates. Once the whales are happy with the number of coins that they accumulated, they will most likely create another pump. Just have a few more days patience.

I'm hardly a whale, but I'm buying.

I think it will go over $1000 in the next 2 weeks, and then there will be a big sell-off.

Just my 2 satoshis.

BTC

I'm traveling this week and catching up on the news at the airport. The brexit happened?! WTF did you blokes do? Oh well, good for BTC at least. Now if we have a nexit, and swexit will be a hell of a year.

It's over $630 now and I fear it may drop even more till halving ends. It's just a test period and we shouldn't actually watch the price but see what has bitcoins gained. Yes, patience is definitely needed during times like these. I am waiting for a last minute pullback and I would surely take advantage once an opportunity presents itself. Anything below $580 is a buy for me. Let's see how things turn out once we are just a few days away from halving.

580 dollars seems to be a bargain considering the potential. Just a week ago we were at the 780 mark.
But for me it is a risk too, since i expect a massive dump after the halving.

I think a lot people start to realize that a dump will happen after the block halving, which might be a reason for them to wait before buying at these prices. And a lot newer Bitcoiners don't even know what the halving is and does, so it gives them even more stress as they don't know what to expect.

this is why all those thing are not neherent to the recent increase, if bitcoin each time it need to move up we need a fiat scandal, we are screwed, and bitcoin failed

there is no reason for the decline, this is a regular thing and do not panic. it is evident today bitcoin has again increased.
true. This is a normal thing. bitcoin does have such characteristics. bitcoin is designed for unstable. the rise and dramatic fall in a short time is a normal thing. I have experienced many instances of so extraordinary because bitcoin always see movement up and down.
Yes, that is the feature of bitcoin and because of this feature a lot of traders attract to that currency a they earn a lot of money with that rise and drop of the price, everyone should have to learn about trade and then they will also love that rise and fall.

And in the end, inflationary devaluation is a certainty when holding fiat.

ya.ya.yo!
This is not strange because there are a couple ofd people who are just holding their bitcoins and not even spent just one so it is not realy
strange that the price of the bitcoin has dropped allot and i think that there is allot to do with the english people who has bitcoins.

To be honest i do not think that it is bad thing if the price is going to drop again because many people are waiting for a cheap price to buy Bitcoin for.
This might be your chance not everybody is able to afford Bitcoins that are worth $700 a piece.

That was true there was a period where the bitcoin dropped that much that he almost dropped 100 dollar in one day but the next day there came
50 dollar back so it was not very sad but it is never funny when the bitcoin drops.
