Title: Electrum 2.6.4 on Ubuntu 16.04, no icon on desktop - is it actually installed?
Post by: rustbucket on June 21, 2016, 09:09:54 PM
Hi all,

i've been trying to upgrade electrum 1.9.8 to 2.6.4 on an offline ubuntu laptop. I went online for the brief moment I needed to use the "Easy Installation" method but although everything seemed to go fine, I can't actually find an installation.

I can run it from the folder typing "electrum" into a terminal but there's no icon on the desktop and I can't create a launcher using gnome.

Can anyone tell what the problem might be?

Thanks
Ado

Type "which electrum" in a terminal. it'll tell you the location of the executable file. You can then copy that location into your gnome launcher creation window.

However  I will again recommend that you stop using linux for something so important until you become a lot more comfortable using it.

Hi Abdussamad,

thanks again for your help. Though in my defence- no, i'm not familiar with Linux but the principle of a cold wallet on an offline Linux machine with a watching wallet on a Windows machine is solid and has served me well for over two years. Upon installation of 2.6.4 no icon appeared on the desktop as it did when I installed 1.9.8. This might be a phenomena familiar enough to Linux users but, well, I admit it, I panicked and then stopped thinking logically. As for my ass-backwards installation sequence - yeah, mea culpa, I panicked.

Thanks for helping a Linux noob.
