Title: Question about BitCoin Wallets
Post by: PharaohUB on March 13, 2013, 01:53:33 PM
One of the sportsbooks says "Only use wallets that allow you to receive Bitcoin from the same address you sent from."

I downloaded bitcoin - wallet qt.  And it is not clear to me what my "send from" address is.  How do I know where I'm sending from, and if I can receive back to that address?

If it won't work with that program, can you recommend the most straight forward one to try?

Bitcoin-qt program is fine, this warning is for shared online wallets like Instawallet.org or MTGox wallet

Hi.
In the qt client you should find the option to produce a receiving address that allows others to send you money. If someone wants to pay you, then simply give them this address. You can produce as many receiving addresses as you like. likewise other bitcoin peers can display/send their receiving addresses so that you may send to them.

That depends on what wallet you are using.  Some wallets let you choose, others don't.  In the case of Bitcoin-Qt, you don't get to choose which keys are used, and the wallet doesn't tell you which keys are used.  It hides all those technical details from you.  It will give you the transactionID which you can look up somewhere like blockchain.info if you want to see what keys were used.
