Title: Wallet is Watching
Post by: Mokolpop on June 27, 2016, 11:22:02 AM
Hello,

Ive recently switched laptop and as a result switched my Bitcoins over from Multibit to Electrum.

its been a while since id checked on my Bitcoins so logged on yesterday and was told my

" This wallet is watching only this means you will not be able to spend bitcoins with it, make sure you own the seed phrase or private keys before you request bitcoins to be sent to this wallet "

I have the seed phrase but am unsure what to do with it and therefore have the capacity to sell them if I wished.

I followed the instructions to restore the wallet using the seed but am unable to see my bitcoins, they still remain in the initial wallet I see when I open electrum.

Do I simply transfer the coins to this new wallet created by the seed ? Or am I missing a trick here ?

Thanks in advance

Kind Regards
Bidders

it's mean you don't have permission to take control of bitcoin address, maybe the app consider you as not the original owner so give you limited access
why don't try to switch to multibit again?
backup privkey, delete address, and restore address maybe work

Take one step back. Is this correct:
- you used to use multibit HD
- you have the multibit HD seed
- you tried to restore your wallet by pasting the multibit seed in the electrum restore box?

I'm sorry, but this does not work i'm afraid...
What you can do to switch to electrum:
- download multibit HD
- restore multibit HD with your seed
- generate a new electrum wallet (write down the new seed)
- create a transaction from your multibit HD to electrum, using all inputs (empty out your wallet)
- use electrum from now on
- allways keep the multibit HD seed... Don't destroy private keys in case you ever need them

The fact electrum tells you it's wath only means: you either restored your wallet by entering your addresses OR the xpub. Neither of those will work...

And one more thing to add to this good tutorial is not to be cheap with transaction fee. It is advised even by multibit wallet to send tiny transaction first, just to be sure everything is OK. Double check.
After that send all your coins with good fee to ensure fast confirmation.
I would say that 20-50satoshi per byte will be good.

I'd suggest to use https://bitcoinfees.21.co/
At the moment, the recomended fee is 60 satoshi's per byte... Also, i don't really know if it's a good idear to do a test transaction first... You'll create 2 outputs to your new wallet, and there is no guarantee the test transaction will be equal to the real transaction (it's the wallet's job to use the most optimal inputs to create an output, but once an input has been used, it's gone...).
The advice not to cheap out on transaction fees is good advice, i'd suggest the OP to follow it :)

Well man try to wait. Maybe the wallet are just syncing up. I think it will show up to your balance after it is synced.
I'm not sure this will work, OP clearly stated he got the message that he's using a watch-only wallet. This means the wallet does not hold the private keys to the addresses. He will never be able to generate outputs if his wallet doesn't controll the private keys.
