Title: RED ALERT--WARNING!!! HashOcean refund email
Post by: davidwpenny on June 28, 2016, 02:28:03 AM
IF YOU RECEIVE THIS EMAIL, DO NOT FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT.  IT IS A FAKE!!!

How do I know this?  I DO have a HashOcean account and I DID receive the email; HOWEVER, the email it was sent to was one that I have NEVER used for HashOcean!!!  AND the address that I DO use for HashOcean never received the email.

In case you have not seen the email that was sent, it reads as follows:

"Hashocean@hashocean-refunds.com

01:45 (8 hours ago)

to me
Hello, unfortunately these days our website hashocean.com, was hacked. Hackers took our domain and we have no control over anything. For our stupidity, we do not have the backup of the database. We will do the refund for you, but as we have not saved history, we will refund you your mining purchase under the following conditions. "Take the following actions properly, we have more than 700,000 users, and if we are looking for 1 by 1, would take years." To receive your purchases refund please visit: hashocean-refunds.com"

Dear members/miners,
as you may have noticed our domain has been hacked and sold, this was beyond our control and despite our teams very best efforts we have been unable to recover it. Our official Facebook, Twitter and Youtube accounts have also been hacked and closed.
We have had to take the unprecedented step now to admit defeat, the hackers have won and Hashocean is no more.
Our domain and our Data Centres were not directly linked but to be sure our members investments were protected we have been forced to cease all mining operations with immediate effect and transfer all remaining BTC (Approx $3,500,000) to a new secure wallet as we can't be 100% sure the hackers won't be able to get access to your investments eventually.
We have been able to recover a partial backup containing our final full days transactions/payouts along with our customer database and wish to refund as many of our customers as possible but we fear this might not be possible as we suspect the hacker/hackers may of been clients who accessed our domain via fake customer accounts they had setup so the only way we can resolve the matter is as follows:
(Customers will be refunded strictly on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis, when the secured funds are gone, they are gone)
Please carefully take note of the EXACT amount of the last confirmed BTC payment you received from us dated 26th June 2016.
Please send this EXACT amount of BTC to the below secure wallet address - please include with the payment notes your registered email address for Hashocean (DO NOT SEND ACCOUNT PASSWORD)
1PJHPsfHt9v4ybSoC6u7F8ndH9K6mpxHC
We will cross reference your payment and email address with our backup records and as long as they match we will then refund that payment along with your investment back to your accounts registered wallet.(We estimate the process to take no longer than 72Hrs from receipt of your payment to processing of refund)
Please note we will only be refunding the funds you invested plus any re-invested funds, we will not be refunding any sign-up/referral/bonus funds at this time - we think this is the fairest approach so as to refund as many of our loyal investors as possible, if after this process is complete there are any funds remaining we will then start the process of refunding any referral/bonus funds, again on a first come, first served basis - watch this page for updates.
Finally please be extra careful with your account details, we have been informed of a number of fake websites etc. that have been set up using our name and tricking people into disclosing their wallet details, email address and passwords - PLEASE do not send any of your personal details to anyone ever by unsecured methods such as email or website.
Check the address given above with address posted under this sentence.

I see this message as a joke.

If they supposedly say someone stole and sold his domain, means that the database, account bitcoin and  mining has not problems.

Why would ask you to send bitcoin to have refund? does not make sense.

Yes! Over a half million users and no backup? What in the blue hell were they doing over there?

I don't think the refund email thing is legit (that is, it's not from HO), but it's obviously a scam. Send money to process a refund? And with a domain that indicates this email as preplanned? I'd pass. Just take your lumps folks, and move on.

The way I see it, lots of scammers are taking the opportunity to take advantage of the situation.

Could be a double, in an attempt to scam more money. Anyone remembers the firecracker packages from Hashie.co?

These scammers are getting way out of hand.

Lmao and thatis very suspicious they have been operated since 2012 and gathered so many users without doing any backup ;D maybe we can say that it is not actually from the hashocean and of course it is just another scam . But even if it not from them hashocean is still a scam ;D

If they don't have backup to database, why they still know email of 700,000 users ::)
Are they trying to earn even more money after their business is "hacked" ?
the word "hacked" commonly used by them when shutting down a webstie maybe to make people feel pity to them which result no sue,and i think so about the database,i wonder if just 5000 users of 700,000 trust them and send them btc around 0.1 they could get 500 bitcoin,i guess there's still exist a people who's stupid enough to trust hashocean

I guess your prayers will go unanswered as they already gone with more than 3 mln usd and are having some nice party on some exotic island now. People should stop expecting or hoping to get their money back, its done, its game over. Just be smart now and don't send them even 0.001 bitcoin as I have seen the latest scam attempt was an email where they were asking for just 0.001 bitcoin to confirm your wallet address. It appears this latest group of scammers are happy even with a small amount of bitcoin (for example 10.000 users sent 0.001 bitcoin and they receive 10 Bitcoin) as they think many people will try their luck with such small amount. Don't send them even this small amount.

The scam was HashOcean. They took your money and when the ponzi folded they got "hacked" like almost all the other bitcoin scams that have existed through the years. Stop being so gullible. The chance that you'll find a profitable way to invest bitcoins is pretty much zero. You will get scammed if you try.

Hash Ocean Refund
the real refund address is 18ErbCe9JyhF2T7dup3nvAskmH1DLSL6Pr
now, be careful
with transaction you specify the date and the amount of deposit
for example:
date of joining 4/23/2016
sum of all deposit 12BTC
the amount to send on 18ErbCe9JyhF2T7dup3nvAskmH1DLSL6Pr
is 0.01423612 BTC
explanation 0BTC, 01BTC cent, 4236 is the date 4/23/2016, 12is the sum of BTC deposit.
if you deposit more the 99BTC just put 99 at the end, they will se the total amount of deposit, but
if you deposit 1btc and put 99 at the end... do not do that.
in 48-72 hours, you will be refunded, they need time to find you among over 700.000 deposit and users

spamming the same message in some threads about hashocean? are you trying to get some profit by changing the refund address with your own address? or maybe you are one of their team?

I usually receive fake emails like that, but saying to be from BlockChain wallet service. Just don't click this kind of email, probably you find them on junk folder of your email. Extra precaution before clicking emails on that folder.

And about HashOcean, I really don't believe they will refund any simple satoshi for you... So, never believe this kind of message from them.

it's strange you 1 account at a scam site and you receive many more spam mails from so called bitcoin companies.
The moment you got this spam you know the site is a scam site and they have sold your information to other scammers.
