Title: No ICO no premine ethereum clone.
Post by: iamtheonlyone on June 28, 2016, 08:07:07 AM
Hello, I'm a programmer. I saw the source code of ethereum and it is so easy to clone. I want to clone it. Zero premine. No ICO. Purely mining. Would anybody be interested to mine it? I can do this for fun.

sure why not, although i'm sure you understand you'd be inheriting a lot of shitty amateur code from the totally incompetent Ethereum team

Miners maybe, i think investors have had enough of "smart contracts" right now. Still good to launch just in case but it'll likely slump around until it MAYBE could be interesting a few years from now. This would have been a good idea months ago, now is a bit too late maybe?

Anyways, still good idea, even if it won't fly. A few months ago this would have been the mega-pump, but now?

This has been a risk from Day 1 and was highlighted in the Ethereum ICO as well.

OMG now ethereum will be on counterparty. Wait i'll buy some. :)
Looking at counterparty's market cap, i think it's a good buy.

This is an article which came out in 2014.
I just posted it to show that the idea of cloning is not new.  :)

slow and steady growth is better than a disillusioned hype mega-pump imo

How are you going to improve it without ICO? Can you get volunteers to do it for the community for free?

You must be new here? "Slow and steady growth" doesn't happen (opr so very rarely it's 1 in 1000) because coins are abandoned by dev AND community in 95% of cases after the first pump. Something newer with more *bling* usually immediately comes along and peopel repeat that ritual over and over. So, if you want "slow and steady growth" better plant a tree in your garden. Sad state of affairs but that's what people demand most often.

If you launch a coin fairly and people see value in it, it is open source and if your really create something of value other devs will join you before you know it. You don't need funding at all for a coin. Also there is other avenues like devcoin-code example.
When you stick longterm with the coin usually your community donates from time to time to your causes.

If you want to get rich and earn honor in this place you better produce something that has value and mine and buy it yourself like everyone else (no freebees). This way you can have big success. Just be clean, clean, clean and fair, fair, fair and good code.

If you launch with ICO you are already dead before you started. If your code is good they'll copy you and community will support the clone. That's the game.

ICO = trash ; even when the code is good.

These coins should be 'money' not 'garbage'. People have high expectations. Look at LTC and coins that have longterm communities to get an idea.

People only need ico or premine if they want cash out fast for no work and leave everything behind. We know human nature.

Me, myself and I are waiting for what Shelby the anony mints have to offer to the worlds.

I have so much time. I'm retired. I joined eth since ico. I'm waiting for augur. I'm doing this just for fun. I will fund it myself.
Oh by the way, I'm so happy that counterparty will also implement smart contracts soon. Looking at its market cap, there is so much room to grow.

One of my regrets was to miss the iota crowdsale. I think the DAG is a good one.

It is amazing what it can do to us. The internet is a nice thang baby.

Well, it's been done several times (at least) but only the first few have gone anywhere. So you'd better be sincere about doing it for the fun. ;)

OP, I suggest you consider a different coin to clone. There appears to be real issues with the Solidarity language. It does not appear even Vitalik Buterin himself knows all of the security flaws with Solidarity, nor how to program around them with anything beyond a rudimentary complexity. (Like the smart contact equivalent of "Hello World." And that may be pushing it.)

Why? It would be fun. And I don't want to rust my programming. Incidentally, I will use the Rust programming language. :)

they will fix it eventually. by then, we can create our own dapps or just copy the stable ones that they did.

is there any useful dapp on the Ethereum platform running today?

I am interested in learning more.

Only 1 in total? I feel a little embarrassed cuz I had been thinking it would be like an app store with literally millions of apps?

I'm pretty sure thats what they had in mind when creating Ethereum. Give people time to attract developers to build dapps, not only on Ethereum but on other cryptoplatform- and frameworks. I don't know if most people can already see the potential of what could be done with this tech.

Yes, that is true.
Google Maps wasn't created as soon as the internet was created.
And Uber wasn't created as soon as Google Maps was created.
It will take time before layers are built on top of existing technologies.

The Ethereum Classic price is rising at the moment. But it is a premine coin, so why do not people still support it?
