Title: Should Alaska be part of Canada or part of Russia
Post by: Jet Cash on July 01, 2016, 09:21:41 AM
Alaska was part of Russia until 1867, when it was bought by William Seward for the US. This was slightly before Britain created the Dominion of Canada. In March of 2014 a petition was started to demand the return of Alaska to the Russians.

I can't see the US allowing any change to occur, but would it be advantageous if it did?

I think it is best at least to try not to brake the borders. Let it be a part of the US if there aren't lots of people against it now

I started this thread because of the Ukraine situation, and I am interested in general views of country realignments.

I understand. That's why I wrote "try not no break", because it will be a lot worse if everyone starts to say which area they think should belong to them

If there wasn't Fukushima it would be one of my favorite state... No gmos contaminations, revenue sharing from natural deposits, beautiful landscape, great fishing (once upon a time)... Smart to have decriminalized plants...

Russia sold Alaska to the United States, go to the library and read about something you want to know. Internet does not always provide all the information appropriately.

The USA bought Alaska from the Russians. The Russians actually explored what’s now the West Coast of the USA as far South and what’s named (Fort) Ross, California. This is less than 100 miles from San Francisco, CA, but North of Drake’s Bay. The US man who made the deal has a town named after him, Seward

Because Russia sold Alaska, they have no grounds to get it back - money changed hands, and contracts were exchanged.

It is a bit like the Louisiana purchase - the French sold it to the Americans and both sides are content with the deal.

The Ukraine thing is different - Russia invaded Ukraine. Trying to take something by force is theft.

P.S. Most of Siberia was owned for centuries by the Chinese - the Russians stole it from the Chinese in the 19th century. Instead of Russia constantly trying to expand, maybe they should focus on what they have, lest the Chinese deciding to take the territory back.

The year was 1981...I remember this because it was the year our Lumber Colony's Vice Admiral made his now historical surprise visit to Iowa.

Quote from: TheSoftwoodTimes
Fresh off what's being called the Pre-Post-Antibiotic Era Amazon River Cruise and Economic Summit, the Vice Admiral has courted controversy yet again; this time he's in Iowa. The Vice Admiral's refusal to address the issue of GMO has sparked a media storm abroad (as you can well imagine)...

If we want to be fair, we should first ask native people of Alaska, Inuits, what they think about this idea.
After all, they first came to Alaska, not Russians or Americans.
Maybe, they want to become independent and have their own country?
What about referendum about this issue?
It's selfish to look at Alaska situation only from white people perspective.

There's no invasion anywhere else but in the western NWO LGBT propaganda. There's a civil war.

Lets talk about that for a sec.

Ukraine is in a proxy war making it split w. north/south. And this is all based on a cold war brewing with recent nato`s actions taking more territory.

Eventually the way I see things, russia will be smaller. You can see the russian ruble is crashed so hard - the US is indirectly causing for the people to debate on staying in their own country.

Whats crazy is this situation is taken so lightly that no one even cares, which is sad cause this is a possible world war 3.

Actually the money was barely inflated back then. It is way more inflated now. So, we really owe the Russians a whole lot more.   :D

Take a look at http://www.freedomsphoenix.com/. In the top left, they have the price of Bitcoin, gold, and silver. Bitcoin went up to $800 last week. Gold and silver danced around a "bit." This made Bitcoin fall back down to under $600. But you can't hold Bitcoin down. It's going up again. And this time it is taking gold and silver with it.

Wow! Silver is up like more than a dollar today. That's like 5%. And Gold is up like $20. Smaller move for gold percentage wise (1.5%), but a big move for gold lately dollarwise. Likewise, Bitcoin is up like 4.5% in just a few hours, which is a reasonably big move. What's going on all of a sudden?

No need. They are giving land away for free: https://www.rt.com/business/341892-far-east-land-infrastructure/ it is the russian homestead act. 2.5 acres of land for everyone. Though foreigners must be naturalized to have full rights. And the land is in the middle of nowhere. With no infrastructure near it. Some 4 hours drive from nearest city. And it will be hard to win an independence war against russia.

How about independence?
But I bet most Alaskans are fairly rich and happy to be Americans, they don't want to change anything.

Yet, this is the way that it should be for all the States... independence to be individual nations.

Regarding income taxation, I have heard it said that fighting an income tax case is about 3 times easier to do with the Federal than the State. In other words, since the State income tax is based on the Federal, the Federal is actually protecting people from the State.

Is this the way it should be?

By the way, even though I have American relatives and I enjoy visiting America, I would not like to see Canada join America for the simple reason that you people simply cannot pronounce the word about properly.  Oh yeah, that and the fact that you would totally screw up our universal health care system and make a mess of our metric system, eh?

Alaska would rebel and become their own country if anyone tried this.

But get the Biden/Harris team into the White House, and nothing is too crazy to conceive of.

I think Alaska is now in a good position in the US government which he knows everything secret of the government very well. Us government will not allow him to return to Russia despite some people in the country don't want to use their eyes to see him because he stand against corruption in the country. Canada is also claiming that Alaska is from the country by birth which the country will do everything possible to make sure he aquire a good position in the country. But Alaska is not ready to leave US because of what the government is doing for him.

How does one safely purchase a territory in 1867?  Do you use an escrow?  What if Russia sold it but the settlers didn't leave? Can you evict the tenant immediately or do you have to honor the lease made by the previous owner?  Are you now at war with them?  Did the sale still close making it a civil war within the US or are the Alaskans in a civil war with Russia and international war with the US?  Are their newborns US citizens?

Well Britain used to own Calais, and i think we should reclaim that. That would help to solve our economic migrant influx.

Petitions are useless except if the one who is petitioned agrees with them. It's DEMANDS, from a position of strength, that are useful.

Many people of the United States want Alaska to remain right where it is. Why? They live in Alaska, and don't want to become part of Russia or Canada.

Great Britain is the protectorate of many independent countries. If Alaska is to be changed, it should become its own country, with the USA as its protectorate... but possibly revert to a territory.

A few years ago, Texas petitioned the US government in a more organized fashion. The US essentially looks at petitions if there are more than 100,000 signatures in 30 days. Texas reached this goal, but Alaska has not. The US answer to Texas was "No."

Here's the stickler. Texas has an agreement with the US, in their founding documents, that they have the right to secede from the US if they want. Alaska does not have this.

Here's a second stickler. There is a prescribed method for US territories to become individual States. At the time that Hawaii and Alaska became States, this method was no longer available for the US to use. This makes these two States to be States of a different kind. They really are still only territories that have been given permission to act like States.

Sure, but are you ready to give up the South of your islands to the Italians since they owned it too? Luckily Adrian's wall is still around, just need to renovate it.

These Argumentations about who owned it in the past are just wrong. Only viable solution would be to make a referendum and let the people choose you actually live in that area, not some politicians on a drawing board.

Not advantageous to the US, no. Alaska has vast untapped wealth due to its natural resources. The US would never relinquish that. Even if Alaska had no riches, it's difficult to imagine the US selling land to anyone - this sends out a message of weakness.

Difficult to imagine Russia or China taking it by force, either, partly due to the inhospitable environment, partly due to the sheer scale of the place, and partly because it's a part of the North American land mass.

I'd say the only way Alaska might cease to be part of the US is by secession and independence. Not sure how likely this is.

Alaska is the easternmost state of canada russia is in the west the united states has not changed the name given to russia even after the purchase alaska means the mainland or fertile land russia and britain have been at loggerheads over it in the past. Russia understood it was not possible for alaska for a long time war broke out between them for political reasons but if alaska is sold to america the hostility will end.
