Title: Initializing bitcoin engine taking 2 days, is that normal?
Post by: someonesomeone on July 01, 2016, 12:00:10 PM
Hi all,

I am setting up Armory on a VPS and it says that it will take 2 days just initialize the bitcoin engine... Is that normal? Is there a way to speed this up? I have armory version 0.93.3. I installed bitcoin core but I didn't run it because the Armory tutorial says that you should run Armory and let it set everything up...

So is this normal or should this go faster?

Thanks

Get 0.94.1 from  the new Armory home at github (https://github.com/goatpig/BitcoinArmory/releases/tag/v0.94.1)

I suppose it's because armory needs to sync the blockchain... Altough Carlton Banks has a good point: if you're doing a fresh install, why not use the latest version?

A year ago, some people reported syncing durations of a couple of days to a full week. Since then, the blockchain has grown significantly, and the new version of bitcoin core is supposedly only a little bit faster.

In the end it's a combination of your internet speed, processor power, disk speed and memory... It can take hours to days... Impossible to predict

I downloaded the latest version from the Bitcoin Armory website... So there are more version after that one? What is the difference between the new version and the one I am installing now? Thanks!
