Yes, some states are taxing the bitcoin, it's a real currency.

It's on the grey side just like bitcoin, basically it depends on where the coin is being created.

Yes if they are not legal. They wont be part in the currency exchange. And also ICOs can be a chance for people to take advantage of it. As its price would go up in a few trading days. You can change it into BTC after.

Grey market at best but certainly not fully legal.
FYI: In the free-wheeling days of the early internet, there where sites trading in "pre-IPO" speculation related to real-world companies, and that was eventually determined to be illegal, afiak.

Short answer, i don't know but it would be wise to air on the side of caution.

Ripple for example, was fined i believe by FINCEN

Users were arrested by the FBI in Florida a few years back too for selling Bitcoin.
(they violated Florida State Anti-Money-Laundering laws)
Also..
Cryptsy told us all (because i asked them and they told me publicly)
that they were forced to "report" users as per previously mentioned law.
We were told here on the forum that what they had done is
Seize the user in questions account then lie to them about Network problems / Fork etc
Then they would send the users private account info off to the US Fed's.
Which is precisely what i predicted and knew would happen the minute they started with picture-ID.
They were not asking for your contact info for no reason people. LOL

NOTE:
You all should be getting verified with your Picture-ID then Buying ANON coins like Monero at Poloniex.
..cause that would be smart  :D

Plenty of cocky stubborn opinion but the problem is no one ever brings up the stuff i do.
I know more than this shit than 99% of you.
How do i know ?
For example..
Not even 1 single person on this forum has mentioned the shit about Cryptsy or the Bitcoin arrests once !
ONLY ME !
By the way it was reported at Coindesk and the Bitcoin exchange was a cash payment via LocalBitcoins.

The Cryptsy comment can be proven (unless he deleted it) in BitJohns's post history here.
I asked and he told me.. among plenty of other things with Cryptsy + Crypto etc.

Such as the Backroom boys gang / Crypto Mob long ago that had a cabal !
They all use to sit on IRC together and discuss what is happening such as mass dumpers etc
..then they would decide together what they WOULD DO ABOUT IT !

This group even had M. Karpeles from GOX.
Anyone else bring that up ? nope.. just me ..as usual.
Because i know more about Crypto than you all.
I was also the one who told you all BitJohn QUIT Cryptsy. (Dedicated Topic in Service Discussion section)

Want more ?
Yup i was the only one around here to mention since the day the Tax Law went into effect for CAN.
I seen the news 3 years ago that Canada published Crypto-Currency Tax claim guidelines.
First country in the world to do so by the way.
I also was the guy who first mentioned the News that Canada was the first to get a Bitcoin ATM.
Anyone mention either last 3 years ? noooope only me ..as usual.

Jeez what the fuck do you all even do around here anyway ?
Seems like i am the one doing all the work  :'(

..and yeah i am FAT !
Fat with elite Crypto-Knowledge  ;D

It's fun pretending you "know things" ..but it's a GAS ACTUALLY knowing things ;)

By the way i found the SEC's Investor Fraud Alert PDF on Crypto-Currency's the same day it was posted on the internet on December 4th 2015 and had posted it here at Bitcointalk first letting you all know.
And since ?
No one ever has mentioned it.. except for me of course 8)

I am sure i could think of many others.. but..

Anyway.. carry you on.
CAN'T WAIT THERE IS OPINIONS TO POST DAMMIT !!!!11111ONE

PS:
I am considering taking a protege under my wing.
Stay tuned you could be the lucky candidate if you play your cards right.
(potential candidates must have either, a) nice cans or.. b) a sweet ass)

ICO is legal still until the dev team turned into a scam. i couldn't help thinking they are buying back all the coins bought by investors for a price yet they are buying them back almost less than $0.01.  i think some of them purposely don't put a buy wall in order to prevent investors panic.

I'd say the legal situation gets worse when you run an ICO.
Think about it.
There is no such thing as a decentralized ICO.. they are centralized by design.
So there is some guy or company etc behind it's launch.

The way i see it is a dev sitting at home while he decides to make a Block-chain *related* SCHEME.
SO he premines 100% of the coins then hands them over to Poloniex or Bittrex etc.

So how in the fucking hell is that any more legit than a mined coin with a 2% premine ?
It sure as hell would not be any more legal.

..wait for LAW to catch up with Crypto.
The problem is this shit caught the regulators off guard.
AN in turn that means they are legal ?
That is silly nonsense.

They just haven't gotten around to laying the hammer down *much* yet.
..and they will as i have said for 3 years running.

It's already started (see my previous comment here)

EDIT:
Seems to me we intended to make a DECENTRALIZED currency originally.
NOW ?
We are pushing ICO schemes.. pushing the legal boundaries.

And look around these centralized coins + schemes have simply ended up being a digital version of..
The US Federal Reserve  :D

For example we seen Max Kaiser sputtering about yammering on about "Quantitative Easing" on Twitter.
..with his ICO scheme START COIN (wait for the hype it's coming eventually backed by Kim Dotcom)

Quantitative Easing was what the FED Reserve did after the housing crash + recession to band-aid the bleeding markets.
In other words they burned some "coins"  ::)
Or in other terms / methods adjusted the max total size of coins.

Yes man they are very much legit and my income comes from them. Current hot ICO for me is CRB and DCORP. They are in the pre-sale phase and most probably they will grow into big ICO's if you check their investment into advertising platform as well as promo. Many are there who are legit and ICO are most likely to get yo profits as compared to other ways of trading. And sure they are completely legal and you can always have a look on their Whitepaper provided on the official website.

Is Bitcoin legit/legal?

Yes, some states are taxing the bitcoin, it's a real currency.

I think bitcoin is not a currency in technical or legal term .......it is currency for understanding only .

I think altcoin is legal because there are founders, while bitcoin is just a common currency for transaction purposes.

ICO is legit/legal if it was processed legally. In ann thread you can see the members of their team and also their company so we can see how they support their project and how determined they are to pursue it.

I think ICO is legal, because ICO is the same as a company that is holding a project together with the team build and plan to make something new. Just the same as someone making ICO but its different they make a project a coin and i think it is very legal in crypto world.
