I think nearly 70% of the people who using bitcoin in the world are surfing this forum  ;D

Its difficult to calculate the exact percentage of users spending time here, but I am sure each an every individual who is aware about bitcoin will be a part of this forum.

That's a very interesting question. At first thought, I almost agreed on a number around 70% as well. On second thought however I think that this number might be greatly exaggerated. The reason is that a personal estimation is often not based on a random sample of Bitcoin users. Instead it is based on a convenience sample based on the websites visited. There is no assurance that the specific pattern of participation in the Bitcoin sphere of the estimator is representative for the average Bitcoin user.

You have to consider that with the ongoing expansion of Bitcoin usage there has been frequent and diverse media reporting that reached a huge audience. Only very few of these media reports mentioned Bitcointalk. So there can be a large number of Bitcoin users that never even became aware of the existence of this forum. Not mentioning professional investors and financial advisers that feel too self-important to register at a public forum... :D

My personal estimation for today is 20-30%. In the very early days of Bitcoin more than 90% of Bitcoin users were also likely users of Bitcointalk simply due to the fact that Bitcointalk evolved from the development community around Satoshi himself. But those days are over...

In my opinion it depends on how people are introduced to Bitcoin.  When I was first introduced, I was under the impression that Bitcoin was the currency of the criminals who were trying to buy in the black market.  It was not until I actually did some research did I realize that what I thought was not the case.  I did a search and Bitcoin talk was the first option when I searched Bitcoin Forum.  I just wanted to learn.  There are alot of new people who do exactly what I did.  So I would have to think that the % of users is actually more than 70%, maybe around 85%

I think in developing countries like Indonesia and Philllippines, the figure must be more than 90%.
A lot of people have been introduced to faucets through Bitcointalk.org

Haha yeah i agree with you, since the creation of bitcoin, followed by bitcoin talk. That where bitcointalk that causes rapid growth of bitcoin. Because of this forum was a lot of people who are interested in using bitcoin. :) Thank you

I think it is in around 10% of bitcoin users are using bitcointalk.org but anyway it is just a mere speculation. Given the fact that we do not have a factual statistics or data of how many bitcoin users are there around the globe and we also dont have the exact numbers of bitcoin users to bitcointalk.org. If we have those datas we can compare and we can compute the exact or more accurate statistics and average.

I agree many bitcoin user dont know about bitcointalk.org or they know but they don't join in this forum.  I predict only 30% of the community already join in bitcointalk and other 70% of it don't join.

but all of this need and statistic data to make a calculation of the percentage of people or users using bitcoin talk. but it's not many, because maybe just like this example you choose the ten people for random in the community and you can asking into personal about bitcoin, i think only 2 or 3 from people know about bitcoin.

I highly highly doubt 70% of the people using bitcoin use bitcointalk.org. There are tons of other forums in other languages where people wouldn't think of bitcointalk.org as the first website to go to

I dont think that most of the bitcoin users are using bitcointalk.org or they didnt even know about it . So you can't be sure that it is around 70% of bitcoin users are using and surfing on this forum . Well to make it sure there should be a survey or statistic outside this forum and since the database of this forum cannot be accurate because most members here are using multiple accounts . Maybe some bitcoin users knows about this forum but they didnt use it and some already has a lot of bitcoin but didnt know about bitcointalk .

There are a lot of bitcoin forums other than this bitcointalk and also it is popular on Reddit etc. So i think only 50% people who are involved in bitcoins are using this forum.
Also there  are business man around the world who invest in bitcoins and never have time to visit any such forums etc.

i think most of the users get to know about bitcoin starting with faucets.They only want some money online not interested in bitcoins particularily..So i think number would be less approx 50-55% i would say or may be less...

You can subtract 30% for all the sock puppet and shill accounts and then you will be very close to your estimate. ^smile^ If you do not use Bitcoin, what would you be doing here? This forum is meant for the discussion of primarily Bitcoin and other Alt coins in the Crypto currency environment. You cannot take the whole membership statistic as a guideline, because most of those accounts are idle for many years already. I would like to see one of the moderators posting the Google Analytical stats for Bitcointalk, just to see how many of the current hits are frequent visitors. Anyone?

I'd say 90% or even more but they are not doing it regularly. If to talk about regular users, who visit Bitcointalk.org almost every day, then I'd say it would be somewhere around 10%.

I think that at least 50 percent will use bitcointalk, because there are many blogs about bitcoin on their native language.

Im sure many people come and look around to get answers also but dont
bother making an account. I would be surprised if it was below 50% though
as everyone I know that bitcoins has an account here

I think most of the bitcointalk.org users are not using bitcoins because most of the peopel are only post things about everything and nothing to earn
bitcoins with this. That is why there are allot of stupid questions in the topics...

It's hard to tell because we don't even know the total number of Bitcoin users in.the world. But I'm sure the majority of them is visiting this forum because there is no other place with the amount and quality and diversity of informations like bitcointalk.

I believe whoever is the beginner wanted start with bitcoin definitely will join bitcointalk .org ,from there he will start his journey to more know about bitcoin , i estimate it is may more 60 percent of bitcoin users are from bitcointalk.org  :)   

Maybe almost every people bitcoin users out there use bitcointalk.org. Because this forum has the biggest member than any other forum about bitcoin.

any new user that is willing to learn about bitcoin and is not lazy enough to use a search engine to find out more about bitcoin will definitely find out about bitcointalk.org because everything you search about bitcoin this forum is on top of the search results.

to me more than 80 percent of the bitcoin users may be used bitcointalk.org. it s a popular site. so many people are earning bitcoin from here. i think the users of bitcointalk.org is increasing day by day.

I think a large majority of users are here but i don't think all of them.  This was probably my first stop when i started out but when you think of the amount of questions that get asked on reddit that are very basic plus the amount of people using bitcoin on the dark net .  Theres probably some percentage of these that dont even know bitcointalk exists.

As stated, it is impossible to know what proportion. It may only be about 10% these days and dwindling due to the shifting focus from development and technical/cryptographic issues. I for one used BTC for over half a year before even knowing of the existence of this forum. It all depends on what it is used for. For instance, I used P2P lenders and thus would have no idea about this forum, except some veiled reference to a "BTCTalk account".

I would say though that the marketplace subforums are growing in popularity and bring Bitcoin users to the forum; if the particular services they use do not function as expected, here is often a good place to contact their support teams.

Also bear in mind that many people use Bitcoin from international countries, and though while here does have language boards, it is a predominantly English-language forum. BTC may also be held by citizens in Venezuela, Greece or Cyprus (i.e. after their sovereign debt crises), and they are unlikely to come here, even if they do have regular internet access.

Very grey area; this is only a cross-section of bitcoin's activity.

The vast majority of bitcoin users are based in China simply because of their population base which is more than the entirety Europe and North America combined. Bitcointalk is nothing for the Chinese.

Based on my research only 23.8% of all bitcoin users use bitcointalk.org.

Which research gave rise to that figure, may I ask?

It is impossible to know the percentage of bitcoin users that use the bitcointalk forum. Their could be more than 50% of bitcoin users, there could be less than 50% of bitcoin users.

Probably much less these days since Bitcoin has grown and the content here has gone down hill. The forums now compared to 2012 when I first started reading here is like night and day. I get the feeling a lot of reddit users do not use these forums.

Your assumption that everyone in bitcointalk control exactly 8 bitcoin addresses is incorrect.

It's all the signature spam, but nevertheless these signature campaigns probably do boost the overall BTC economy and have a small net gain.
