Title: VirWox Down?
Post by: inkry on July 06, 2016, 04:19:59 AM
I've been trying to access http://virwox.com/ all day. Seems like it's had a connectivity issue, but with all of these websites going offline recently not sure what to think. Thoughts?

Ah. Thanks for the update. I'm still wondering what happened. They didn't give any notice or information about why it's down. Possibly a DDoS attack.

If you look at recent news section the last news they have posted is almost 1 year ago so i don't think they gonna update what was the issue before.

But i have tried accessing them and it opens but i haven't used their service before i don't think i gonna need it. And also they don't seem to have twitter or facebook account for update. So hope that was just some server issue nothing bad.

Is it gone for real now?

What? It is not. It's working fine for me.

If you are having trouble connecting to a site and are wondering if the site is indeed down or if  it's just you,
You could always just check in these sites. It'll confirm things and you'd know for sure, so you could start checking your connections, etc.

The original site is fine and working fine. But I want to point out something here - when typing host names I made a mistake and instead of VirWox.com (http://VirWox.com) - which is perfectly fine.
I typed virvox.com (http://virvox.com) - and it will redirect you to some temporary domain with couple links about bitcoin. Maybe you made the same mistake?

It's quite slow loading but it got there eventually.

I think that virwox is often down, i've seen it down at least 3-4 times from using it for just a year. The actual number of downtimes will probably be a lot larger than 3-4 times per year, so it's a normal phenomenon.

So don't get too scared when you see it down. After all it's been one of the oldest and most trusted btc exchanges around, and even paypal hasn't shut their accounts down proving that they are legit.

Anyways, next time go to isitdownrightnow to check out the info before posting here :)

I was able to connect just now. Its just loads slowly initially but it will eventually load. I'm not familiar with this website though. Looks interesting, I might try and go play around with it for a few minutes and see how's things there. Thanks for sharing.

It's one of the only legal ways to buy BTC with Paypal. You buy it through their intermediary "Second Life Linden" tokens. For some reason you can buy those with fiat, but not BTC. But then you just sell them for BTC and move it to your wallet. Be sure to make your own limit orders. You can get screwed if you rely on market orders.
