Title: Seeking some advice. How does one start to become an escrower.
Post by: tokeweed on July 06, 2016, 06:26:56 AM
Hi guys.

I want start another adventure here at Bitcointalk.  If you don't know, the first one was asking how to get in a good signature campaign as I posted here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1498626.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1498626.0)

It wasn't easy at first, and I had to prove to the managers that I am worthy enough to get in.  And thankfully, I got in very good signature campaign.  Ros of Betcoin is really great.  Props to him.

Now I am seeking advice on how I can become an escrower.  Where do I start and how do I gain the people's trust?

I'm also hoping this thread will be helpful not just to me, but for the other readers as well.  Thanks.

Start by building your reputation in here. Gather trust form trades.
Start small and get big. Prove that you have all good intention here in the forum and once you proved yourself, it should be easy to say that you are reputable enough.
You can start escrowing small amounts for now.

What kind of trades do people usually want here?  BTC to Neteller/Paypal?  Altcoin trades?

How small is 'small' in escrows exactly?  And how much in fees do escrows usually get per trade?

By...not wanting to become an "escrower".
Sounds odd? Well, think about it.
You're not supposed to be the guy who wants to hold onto each and every traders goods, you're supposed to be the guy people want to trust with this stuff from themselves.
Act like a trustworthy person, and eventually some traders will consider you for the escrow role (a vast trading history of your own can't be bad either, as I skimmed it, you got close to none).
Don't run after it, if your service is needed, people will come asking themselves. You can start from that point.

And how much in fees do escrows usually get per trade?
Believe me, if you're taking any kind of fee, you gonna have a hard time kicking it off.

What kind of trades do people usually want here?  BTC to Neteller/Paypal?  Altcoin trades?
A new/unexperienced escrow juming into PayPal trades? What could possibly go wrong.

Ewh, one could argue about that. But it would take this whole thing Off-topic.

offer services and sell the goods which you don't need then you can start escrowing. I have Only one word to say Scamming is prohibited so if you get a single scam report then you will decease you're chance of being one. I think someone should start a sticky thread on a guide to becoming a escrow because they'll outline the main objectives of escrowing.

Any trades will do as long as you say away with a payment which has a dispute like Paypal. No one would trust you in that but some would do.
Nost people start by just helping out people.

By small I mean a value which you think will not exceed the value of your account. 0.1 btc 0.4 btc somethin like that or lower. Maybe help out someone who is looking for free escrow like what other escrow providers are doing.

Ok cool.  I will start doing some small trades and will look into it when I'm ready.  Thanks for all of the advice everyone.

If you believe that you are a serious about that and you are a legit guy also and won't run away with users money. then the simplest way for you to just Start A Escrow thread in service section and Start Offering your escrow service to everyone..
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=855778.0 see this thread and see how the trusted escrow providers wrote and manage their escrow announcement threads. and get Idea from them.
In first the users may not trust you and hire you but it will start slowly after some time. you'll get start from newbis and then your reputation will start building..

Peoples said above that first you should build your trust. I am sorry guys but I don't agree with this. trust isn't worth anymore since anyone can buy legendary members with green, dark green trust accounts and do whatever he want..

Important Tip: You must sign a message with old staked address to prove that you are the owner of the account. without this you can't do this..

Trust is very important,no one will use you're escrow service if you are not simply trusted.
But i think having legendary is already some kind of a milestone in the escrow service,it is really hard to get it.

Bullshit, bullshit and more bullshit.
For example you say that everyone buys dark green trust legendary accounts and in the next sentence you ask to sign a message from an old address to prove being the original owner.
Like those accounts don't get sold including private Keys of staked addresses,...

Copying the announcement thread of one of the more trusted and used escrow is also not going to make you any better fit for the escrow position.

I am having second thoughts about doing this.  Is this endeavor worth it?  I see most escrowers charge 1%, so how much do they get average at any given month?  Is the risk of getting a negative trust worth the payment you get?  If not, then why do the escrowers do this in the first place?

I'd also like to point out that I'm writing a some sort of guide for bitcointalk newbies.  So I'd like to have first hand experience in everything that this forum has to offer, from faucets, sig campaigns, trading to escrow services.  I believe this forum has evolved so much thanks to Bitcoin that it needs attention in that regard.

It's more a community service than a get rich quick scheme. Some escrows (SebastianJu eg) work on a tip basis rather than charging a fee.

If not, then why do the escrowers do this in the first place?
It's called helping out. Or giving back. Or contributing to the community.
Pick one. Anyhow, earnings shouldn't stand at the first place when deciding to "become" an escrow.

I'd also like to point out that I'm writing a some sort of guide for bitcointalk newbies. So I'd like to have first hand experience in everything that this forum has to offer, from faucets, sig campaigns, trading to escrow services.
You could always contact one of the more prominent escrows and let them talk you through the process.
If that's not enough, maybe ask them to do an example/demo deal with you.

Firstly if this is the same tokeweed and the account has not been sold then i would probably trust you ti escrow a deal from me but i have to ask, why on earth would you want to be an escrow provider for?
They get fuck all on each deal and always have the stress of keeping the coins safe in between deals. As far as i can see its not worth it.
Even if you can keep the coins safe something can always go wrong and you often have to be the mediator.

Trust me mate, not worth the hassle.

Hahaha!  Yes this is still me.  And yeah, I decided not to do it.  I'm going to interview escrowers as an alternative and include some of their answers in 'Bitcointalk:  A Newbie's Guide to Fun and Profit'.  It's something I've been thinking of writing.

First earn some loyalty on the forum like becoming legendary(like what you already have) then make a thread and accept escrow for low rank users because high rank user will probably not going to recommend you then finally make sure to build a trust system by letting a low rank user to leave review for escrowing you.

to be escrow you have to be clean, without any bad history like scams, and to have positive trust in this forum, if you have neutral nobody will trust you

How to build trust is one of the hardest thing to do because you will be needing things that make you trustworthy. Escrowing is one of the reason but as what you said you need a trusted profile already before doing it, be a seller or manager of a campaign first to build up that trust.

Trust is the one that is much required for an user to become an escrow, but to earn a good number of positive trust user needs to be much involved as well needs to spend more time on the forum activities.

Yeah all say and said first thing is to build the trust by doing something good for others by something, that can be anything like opening your own service like giving micro loans and all !

This is a really basic question just like when you were asking how to join a signature campaign... is your account bought or did you just post nonsense for the past years not understanding how anything works? This is totally bizarre. You clearly can only be an escrow if people trust you. I see no one on default trust trusts you. You're starting from nothing. Want to become an escrow? Do trustworthy things on the forum. When you have more trust than any average DT3 or DT2 you can look into being an escrow. If you start offering the service now no one will use you and some DT2/DT1 members may even tag you.

Since you are interested making some extra bucks, you could sell your book for a small price. That will be a nice reward for your time on this forum.

How to build up a trust? One of the hardest thing to do on this forum is to have a trust on other pioneer users. Others don't even entertain people so it will help user to build a trust.
