Shipping

please note: I'm shipping from germany. To the US it can take quite long at times. I've seen anything from 3 to 20 days (1 letter even got lost). Most likely ETA seems to be something around 6 business days.

How to order

Just post how many coins you want (either here for my reputation or via PM for your privacy). I will reply with an address and once you pay, the order is confirmed. Then PM me your shipping info exactly as I should print it on the letter, including country of destination. If you fail to pay within 48 hours I am not bound to honor my offer.

More Details / Rules:

• I will pay for tracked shipping (you will receive the tracking number on request)
• If postal service loses the letter we will wait until I receive my insurance money (this can take up to 5 months!!). So please don't buy if you can't afford to have the money in limbo for that long.
• If tracking service of Postal service says: "received" or "could not be delivered, needs to be picked up" or similar, it's on you: the coin is considered to be delivered at that point
• In case of trouble/dispute I am allowed to publicize the tracking number (this does not reveal the receiving address)
• On request, I will publicize the tracking number here in the thread
• Upon receiving the coin(s), it would be nice if you posted that fact here.

If you have suggestions for or problems with these rules, please let me know.

Do you ship to country xzy?

Most likely yes. Here's the list of countries I ship to (taken from post.de site and google-translated from german to english):

How long does shipping take

Weirdly enough, it doesn't really depend much on the country of destination (Italy seems extremely slow). Canada and US are about 10 business days (variance is high, though). Up to now no letter has taken longer than 23 calendar days (except the two that got lost).

What happens when a shipment gets lost

Long answer: I'm insuring every letter (in fiat currency unfortunately). This means you will get either the coin(s) or your money back at some point in time. But please be patient, I have to be sure the letter is definitely lost. I can only be sure once the postal service admits it. They contractually have 3 months (!!) measured from the point in time I trigger the investigation to either admit having lost the letter or produce proof of delivery. So in the worst case, the customer will have to wait for about 4 months. I will be really sorry about that, but won't be able to do anything about it. So please, don't use any money for this that you might need within the next 4 months.

Short answer: You will get either your coin(s) or money back, but it can potentially take a long time (up to 4 months).

The coins are brand new (un-used, contain a private key with 1BTC)?

The coins are brand new. I've not touched them without gloves and put them into plastic bags right after taking them out of the roll they have been delivered in. The coins have been loaded by Mike Caldwell (Casascius) with 1 BTC each.

What material are the coins made from?

Brass, I think. For the specifics of the coins let me refer you to the supplier site: http://casascius.com

How can you sell so cheap?

I buy bulk (>=100 pieces) from Mike (no special deal, anyone can). Mike decided to offload shipping of small orders by increasing his price to BTC 1.50 for volume <10 coins. This is what I do: take care of these small orders. In addition I do this mainly for gaining experience and getting these beautiful coins into the hands of as many people as possible, so I don't require a big profit margin... just breaking even is ok for me.

Why shouldn't I order directly from Mike Caldwell?

If you buy 10 or more coins you definitely should. My offer only makes sense for small volume.

Why can I order a maximum of 3 coins only

I plan to offer higher volume shipping in the future. But I'll first have to restock. I like the idea of shipping 1 coin to 10 people more than shipping 10 coins to 1 person.

How many coins do you have available?

Currently (as of 2013/3/18) about 25. You can order a maximum of 3 coins. If you notice the price going up it might be an indication that I'm running out. If I'm out I'll put a big note into the OP.

The pic on the shows a series 1 coin from the hologram side. I don't have any of these left unfortunately. Sold my last one for BTC 2.0.

The one on the right could be series 1 or series 2 (the brass coins itself is the same for both).

I'm selling series 2 coins. The backside (with hologram) can be seen in OP, the front-side looks like in the pic on the right side.

hehe. Just for peoples info, I ordered from rpietila a couple of silver eagles and will report in his thread once I receive them. Can't vouch for him yet, but the offer sure is awesome. Where else can you buy silver at spot price without paying VAT for bitcoins?

@rpietila: people here understandably are very careful with trusting people. It'll take some time and some reports from people receiving good silver from you for your sales to really pick up. Be patient. I hope you'll still keep prices nice and low once that is the case. Thanks for doing this, btw. If you deliver what you promise you (and your company) are a great addition to the bitcoin community.

how are the chances for a 5btc coin follow-up batch?
how high is the insurance agains loss?

I don't currently plan to sell anything but the 1 BTC or 0.5 BTC coins.

I currently buy insurance for value of €100 per 1-BTC coin.

There is one case where a letter with 3 coins went missing. I sent them Jan 10th and insured the shipment for €100. I didn't see any money yet, USPS has 3 months (!!) from the time I entered the request to "find" the letter or admit loss. That puts it at April 26th. A lot can happen to bitcoin price in 4 months. Maybe I should buy call options or something.

Can I please have 3 of these coins shipped to the UK? :)

Just a quick wrapup and some stats:

• Since March 18th (firesale) I've sold 48 coins to 30 different people (average of 1.6 coins per person)
• Demand seems to be increasing. I'm severely running out of coins and Mike Caldwell is under heavy load producing / shipping
• 6 shipments including 7 coins are delayed to the following countries: NZ, US, AUS, UK, ES
• 1 shipment including 1 coin to Finland is waiting for pickup by a lazy recipient (he know who he is)
• All others have received their coins (either reported here or confirmed by tracking)
• All shipments have been generously (at the time) insured by me. However in case of a continued price rise some insurances might turn out to have been insufficient by the time I receive the insurance money, which can take up to 4 months (I still think most shipments will arrive eventually, but at some point, I will have to tie up some fiat to rebuy BTC in order to dampen risk)
• It's a lot of fun to do this and you guys positive feedback made me decide to continue.

If you think this is a high price you are probably correct. Note however these are 2012 coins and the next batch will be 2013.

Some poeple who ordered a while back when my offer had a lower price. That's not a problem, I honored their orders at the old price that was quoted when they ordered.

I hate to complicate things, but I added a rule to OP that an order has to be payed within 48 hours after I give the payment address. I hope you'll understand I can't reserve coins forever, especially not now that I'm running out of stock.

So I looked for the capsules. For the price of 10 on ebay (with free shipping), it probably wouldn't even be worth me trying to resell one after shipping & all. The coins are 1.125" which is a hair under 29mm. You can get a 29mm ring but I think I might go for a 30mm direct fit and not worry that it'll probably rattle a bit.
