Title: Should Swing Coin-Swap, Update, Or both?
Post by: murderouskirk on July 06, 2016, 06:57:13 PM
Hey guys,

I'm not getting much feedback in the Swing thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1164721.0) so I've started a poll.

As you know currently our rewards look like this:

And we have an update pretty much ready to go to change rewards to this:

This gives us the option to

A: Update the Swing rewards
B: Start a new coin with these rewards and swap Swing for the new coins.
C: Update the Swing rewards, the come up with something better to swap Swing into after the patch.

Thanks for voting!

It is strange that they decided to return under another name.
Although in past times, I personally without loss.

We haven't decided to do that. We've just been discussing the possibility of a re-brand.

as for the C option: "Update the Swing rewards, the come up with something better to swap Swing into after the patch."

Do you already have some ideas?

My tip would be term deposits (= you basically lock your coins for certain time) like HOdl has:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1317918.0
TL, DR: the longer you "time lock" your coins, the better interest you have - on the other hand you cannot move or sell those coins until deposit expires.

So combination of Swing and HOdl would be:
 - basic POW and POS like the new reward system you proposed
 - option to "time lock" your coins for certain period with extra interest. People would basically decide between POS and "time lock".

I'm just not sure how difficult it would be to implement...

New Bitcointalk user here, longtime lurker :P. I've been following Swing for almost a year. I can't figure out how to vote, but anyway.

I like the idea of updating Swing without swapping (option A). Its my understanding Swing has a small user base. Idk how well it would do if it was swapped into something new. Regardless, I would support whichever direction Swing goes.

I feel like option C would spread users thinner than they already are. There would be 2 fully functional, fairly similar, coins. If swapping is desired, I would like it to be option B. Although it feels like (to me) support for alt-coins is whimsical so maybe updating Swing and then releasing a coin to swap into could bring users to both coins.

I will leave the decision to developers.

SWING has nice momentum in Bittrex. I think it would be risky to swap now.

NO coin swap = puts people on edge

new Swing reward update would relax POW and POS so there is less daily switching involved and more like moon phase adjustments.  although i will miss watching the block everyday like the lotto.  :P
