Title: Anyone tried Freewallet ?
Post by: OmegaStarScream on July 07, 2016, 02:29:13 PM
I was reading some articles at Cointelegraph until I saw this add about Freewallet : https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=6323083665621589806&utm_source=global_co&utm_medium=prtnr&utm_content=Mar2515&utm_campaign=PartBadge&pcampaignid=MKT-Other-global-all-co-prtnr-py-PartBadge-Mar2515-1

They made several wallets for different crypto currencies but I want to ask mainly about Bitcoin  , anyone used it and can give us his review ?

No reason to really try it out when Breadwallet is most recommended for iPhone and newer Android.

Since when Breadwallet support Android ?  ???

EDIT: I just found this on Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.breadwallet , could you please confirm It's the real wallet ? as It seems like it doesn't have that much downloads for a "legit" product.

Since they launched their apps on bitcoin and iOs .You can see it here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.breadwallet it's not all that famous and check the reviews ,its probabaly a bad idea to use it..

I tried Breadwallet on Android and in my opinion it has a long way to go to be a useful product for my use case.

For starters, it makes EVERYTHING bright and white with it's theme... I'm a dark/black theme type of person. It also has a fit if you use 3rd party keyboards and insists you change it to be able to do some features in a case the keyboard is trying to steal your keystrokes (I was using Google Keyboard!! as system default was AOSP)... it also throws up lots of warnings about your device being rooted and other stuff.

For some people, I'm sure it is perfectly fine... but honestly, it just seemed like they were trying to bring iOS thinking onto Android... if I wanted that, I'd be using an iPhone.

I'm a dark/black theme of person as well ;D I won't be using it anyway as the feedback isn't that great. I suppose I should just stick with Mycelium for the moment and see how things goes from there.

Mycelium seems to be the #1 choice for Android at the moment... I even tried the Electrum Android app, but it has a few wierd little quirks and glitches that lead me to believe that it wasn't really designed for Android, but was simply ported and an a UI stuck on top. There are weird graphical glitches when selecting dropdown boxes etc.

I heard/read that Mycelium are supposed to be releasing a new version at some point in the (hopefully not too distant) future... So maybe we will see some improvements then. If I magically find some time and motivation, I was thinking about downloading the current Mycelium source and fixing a couple of things that bug me about it (no manual setting of fees, it doesn't lock the app and required PIN if it gets backgrounded etc.)

I am not a great fan of android wallets simply because they are online wallets. It's easy to download a virus on your phone, I prefer the offline, desktop wallets - they are safer. I wouldn't download freewallet even if it was a great app.

Indeed , the new wallet will contain a lot of kickass features ,and they are probably going to implent that has something to do with CoinShuffle to make transaction more annonymous (It's something that Darkwallet has failed to do) => https://wallet.mycelium.com/ , I really don't like the theme though .

I'm not sure what kind of wallets Freewallet is but Mycelium don't keep your private keys in their servers , only thing they have in their servers are your public address , order book and that's it AFAIK.

I think in the mobile market there are all kind of wallets , some maybe even malware trying to steal your bitcoins so we must be very careful when choosing the wallet.

For the moment most recommended wallet for iOS is Breadwallet and for Android is Mycelium. Lately to Android it has been add Breadwallet with all its security features but I think it will have a hard time fighting with Mycellium in the Android market.

For our peace of mind we should stuck with only these 2 wallets in our mobile devices. On a personal note from me, mobile wallets are as safe as your mobile is and I don't recommend using them for holding and storing large number of coins.

Freewallet maybe good but from the name it doesn't give me any trust to it.

It is a scam. Look at the reviews in their facebook page. There are many issues they have to deal with. Don't be fooled by its beautiful interface because not all beautiful are still beautiful inside. Many claimed that this is a scam wallet. Trust me I'm not the only one who claims. You really need to choose what good wallet you used. Just a reminder ladies and gentlemen to prevent scam. There are many user of this wallet that needs to know the nature of freewallet.

Cocoy, all apps on AppStore & Google Play go through extensive check & verification. Freewallet wouldn't have been there if something was wrong.

sumangs, could you tell us more about your experience with Freewallet? Perhaps we could do something to improve it? Please message us your user id and tell us what happened, we'd be glad to look into your case. Thanks in advance!

SuperStar1, if you're using your phone number to log in, you can still set & verify your email address in the Settings to receive notifications about balance changes, verification messages, etc. to your email. We have a pretty decent knowledge base, plus you can always contact our support in the in-app chat for more info & assistance.

That's a rude decision using a wallet to receiving from an eth token without knowing it doesnt have the import feature.
There's too many reports from some users posted on this forum on the web wallet section usually about the negative side of this wallet.

So much better to avoid them when there's much better wallet, even blockchain.info has its own advantages even its well known web wallet with too many issues.

You are the one who is responsible in that case since you haven't check if the wallet supports ERC20 tokens before using it. Anyway, you are right in regards with private key, better to use a wallet where you have 100% control over it.

I've heard about this wallet before but never tried it esp. because of reviews about lost coins.

xenxen, if you sent a request to our support team, they should have gotten back to you by now, we usually reply during the day. As of now, we support 80+ ERC20 tokens (https://freewallet.org/support/knowledgebase/tokens/). If your token isn't on the list, we will still attempt to refund it, however, it will take a significant amount of time. Please provide your Freewallet user id so that we could mark your request as a priority. Thanks!

i think it is used for mobile login method. more wallets are available in the market but we have to consider security and  transfer charges etc. so free wallet has no much security so it is not good to use. even if you have to use blackchain.info it is good and secure web site for saving bit coins. most of the people buying and selling in this site only.

I use Freewallet and it works great for me. I had one tranaction that did not work, I emailed support and they had it sorted out same day.
Have not used any other wallets so I cant compare or rate it tho :)
