Title: Free electricity so should I start to mine?

I have access to free electricity although can only realistically run 2kw worth of power.
My questions are:
Is it worthwhile to mine?
And if so what hardware would be best to start with?

Yes it would be I think anytime you have "free electricity".  I would ask are you able to handle heat and noise with this location?  This would be one big thing in my mind on picking miner.

For example right now S7 might be great for some grabbing a used one for cheaper.  But if you can not handle heat/noise.  It is going to a little more challenging. Also what volt is your electricity?

Noise & heat are not an issue. Running 240v in UK just to clarify it's not stolen electricity or anything illegal.

find a cheap s-7 and a decent psu and go for it.

As phil said a S7 would be good in your situation.   I would look to try to get one for a decent deal, which is a little harder in UK (VAT and such seems to raise the price of your miner sell's even on used).      Make sure when buying to compare prices to S9 as you should be getting a decent amount cheaper then it as S7's are not near as efficient.

Also with 240 you can use server PSU's which will save some money.  I personally like the recommended APW3's and have had no issues with them, but some prefer others.

Worthwhile if you plan to mine for a decent amount of time (6+ months).
Make sure you don't pay too much on extra fees (import taxes, power supplies, possible repairs).

You should also take advantage of less efficient miners, like mentioned above.

I do not know how 'free' your electricity is, but when you start mining the person paying the electricity bills will definitely feel the effect.

An S9 will be good, though you can get by with an S7 since you won't be deducting electricity cost.

'Free' electricity is not always going to be as 'free' as you'd like it to be, there may be limitations to how much you can use. As for a miner, try getting cheap S7s or S7-LNs. S3's are also good for cheap hashpower, but the S7-LN and S7 is currently the best bang for the buck.

Most PSU'S will work for BTC mining, but make sure you get are good psu from a reputable brand, not one from some company called 'cheappsu' or something offering 1000w at 50% efficiency. EVGA offers good PSUs, and almost anything you can get your hands on at Amazon and Newegg. Always check reviews for PSUs; your mileage may vary with each psu.
