Title: Worth having graded? Post by: woodson on July 13, 2016, 02:00:22 AM I finally took a closer look at one of my first Casascius purchases a 2011 Brass Series 2 1BTC.
Unfortunately it appears the previous owner unbeknownst to me or the sales description performed a chemical test for copper? and left the blemish. how badly does this impact value of the coin? Would one of the subject matter experts comment on still submitting to ANACS or is it more of a bitcoin keepsake as my first coin ever purchased with a slightly higher value? thanks, W https://s32.postimg.org/h1oaiz4bp/btc.jpg Title: Re: Worth having graded? Post by: Fortify on July 13, 2016, 06:14:35 AM Can you circle the point that you say there is a blemish? It's hard to pick out from the photo but it'll be obvious when circled. Some people are against even sending coins for grading, as long as the hologram is unaffected it's not the end of the world. Baffling that anyone would bother to chem test what is clearly either bronze, brass or copper (aka low value metals).

I have a 2013 Brass in similar shape appearance wise, though no chemicals have been used on it. It is tarnished and well handled, one of those coins that got handed around a lot back then, before we started getting them graded. Personally, I've been advised not to grade mine as there isn't much point, it no longer forms part of my collection and is currently awaiting posting on eBay as I don't think anyone here would want it.

There are a variety of different sorts that appear to be some form of reaction, as opposed to standard tarnish / handling Some are like milk spots (also seen on the silvers), this could be that Some are like 'oxidised spots' with an almost rust like spot surrounded by discolouration Most just look like bird poo though !! I prefer my coins to be slabbed so no matter the condition I send them in.
