Mr Robot new episode came out yesterday and It seems like Bitcoin has been mentioned, I didn't watch the episode yet but according to telegraph.co.uk :

Well this looks like an armored truck from the screenshot or something but this begs the question why should there be a Bitcoin-branded armored truck if we are dealing with a digital currency here because it looks like that truck is transporting cash and this is an oxymoron  ;D Anyway thank you for reminding me to start watching the new season of Mr.Robot. I really had a blast with the first one and looking forward to the new episodes. And mentioning Bitcoin in the mass media is always a good thing I guess.

In serial Person of interest bitcoin is mentioned more then once, but almost always like some transaction hiden from government. Or someone selling something on black market and main currency for paying is bitcoin.
Person of interest is nice serial. Maybe future gonna be like that, maybe already it is like that, we can discuss about how much governments spy on us, and how.

Bitcoin is going globally, i watches mr.Robot the first 5 episodes but it started to be very complicated, its not easy to understand the story. As far as I know i have seen bitcoin was mentioned also in many other movies, and also how bitcoin works, about bitcoin mining etc.

Yeah, Person of Interest is definitely one of the best series I've ever watched, they also mentioned SilkRoad in a Season 3 episode.

but in the context of the series, which ive never seen but now will have to watch when i get a chance, maybe its full of something like sealed printed paper wallets, each with defined amount that is easily verifiable.

Is it a big deal? BitCoin was also mentioned in The Blacklist, actually there was a transaction happening there between two gangs, actually I started using bitcoin after I saw it there. Though I had heard about bitcoin but I was just shying away and did not dive into it yet, but after a few days of that episode, I thought what the heck, lets just do it.

I'm going to watch the episode right now , I will post a better picture of the truck and the QR code once I'm on that scene ;D

looks like a "postal truck" (dont know how it's called in US, but the literal traduction is that. it would be USPS/DHL truck  :P).
to me it's like everyone is buying online and paying in bitcoin.

i have seen atm trucks in some poor countries that deal with hyperinflation.

I am more excited with Season 2 than bitcoin being mentioned in an episode. A lot of things to watch out for this season.

I saw a sticker for bitcoin in the second epesode in the super market scene. I assume it is bitcoin accepted here sticker but it was not clear so I just noticed the big BTC

If you look closely, it seems as though there are a QR code also pasted on the side of the truck. It would be cool if that goes to a Bitcoin address and if that address was connected to some sort of charity. We would see some real media interest if everyone started to donate money to the address and it collected a few thousand dollars from the Bitcoin community.

The next trend you will see, could be people doing the same thing with buses and buildings and people looking for that in these episodes. ^heh^

I also saw a fuzzy sign in the background at the bar that looked like the bitcoin logo.

It is interesting that they may be highlighting the fiat scam this season which might allow Bitcoin to play a role.

There is alone another one I noticed, there is a BTC symbol in the sandwich place.

I must watch Mr.Robot now its hard for me to find a good tv series that is for me its good Im always watching anime cause they are much better that tv series (in my opinion only ) , Can this tv series help bitcoin to be more popular?

I was getting a bit bored since most good shows are on 'summer break' I will give Mr Robot a try now they mentioned Bitcoin :P

I'm not there yet, I'm still in Season 1. But this is a good thing for Bitcoin, because there are so many people watching the show so Bitcoin will be better known through there.

Yes and it is some like a plug in for bitcoin. A good advertising exposure on bitcoins part. From what happened, we also who are on crypto's are aware of it. It will give also awareness to those who are not familiar with bitcoin.

There were another two BTCs in the latest episode in the store that was closing down.  The shopkeeper lamented that "With this cash allowance, no one's coming in", suggesting that there were currency restrictions in place and people couldn't withdraw their money as they normally would.

But I don't think so the lamented of shops is refer to digital payment, but maybe it's possible because we know is too rarely the people is using a digital payment in real life.

Its great, its mean bitcoin has make its appearance on public, this is a good news and good advertising for bitcoin,i hope there will be more movie introducing bitcoin, and hopefully somebody can make a movie about bitcoin if that really happens it will increase the value of bitcoin

I just saw this too and I think it is great that bitcoin is getting some exposure on TV. Did you see the new blockchain.info commercial on youtube? It would be great if the network plugs that on when they are showing Mr. Robot. It might make the people more curious about it.

The latest episode also gave a plug to the Signal phone app did you notice the scene at 32 minutes in?

I'm starting to think that this kind of things is not helping Bitcoin anymore (I mean mentioning could do the job) but simply a picture of it won't do anything. as It's a simple B letter , this won't make anyone go to Google or whatever and start looking for it.$
As for the commercial , It's just great and having it on TV is even better ... but It requires a lot of money ... so I don't think It's going to happen anytime soon (there few billionaires & millionaires in Bitcoin world but I wouldn't wait them to do that honestly) .

This is pretty cool, I am still on season 1 but sticking with it as I almost gave up as it is quite slow.  I have seen bitcoin mentioned in a few other shows as well, it was mentioned a lot in Almost Human.

I've been following Mr. Robot since season 1. Mr. Robot is about cyber world, internet, and hacker story, so I'm sure bitcoin will getting mentioned someday. And here it is.
It's good to see that, that way people will more aware to bitcoin.

Maybe a bitcoin-based company offers a "conversion" service where you can convert your bitcoin to physical money and be delivered to your house.  ;D

Well ,there is a chance that is not a bitcoin company at all.Secondly,why would they deliver money to your house when they can simply send it by e-payments like direct deposits ? You imagine the world moving back to 1970 really ?

I guess we will see more and more mentions of bitcoins in drama/movies, as the producers are all constanntly looking for the "in" things to be included in their work.

However, so far most of these are in the US/Canada/EU, and not so much in the Asia, especially China- although they have one of the largest bitcoiner populations.

I don't think they're going down a very good path for Bitcoin though. There's a "Silk Road" and they paint it as a place to have people killed or to buy sex slaves and all of that other nastiness.

So they obviously don't "get it".

Mr robot staff is full of security experts , and since security experts understand the need of cryptography in our lives , they added it in few scenes , after all ... Mr robot is all about Cybersecurity,hacking etc...

I started to watch Mr.Robot Season 1 and saying the truth it's hard to understand whats going on, even though I understand the expressions (technology terminology) but it's hard to understand whats going on.
Started also watching the first episode of Season 2 but stopped after 10-15 minutes but will check now at minute 21st where bitcoin is mentioned but bitcoin is known by non-bitcoin related people as a dirty money, a currency that is only used by hackers.

For most people (and people who watch Mr. Robot specifically) there is some appeal that comes from having Bitcoin being referenced as a form of dirty money. It makes them feel cool or clandestine in their own way, and for some people they like that. Most people who like the show probably like thinking of themselves as a hacker or whatever. For some people that's just cool, and they might get involved with Bitcoin due to the relative ease of starting out.

Thinking that we are hackers just because we use bitcoin then this is not true, we know something that others don't know about cryptocurrencies but this does not makes us hackers because bitcoin just another currency!

Season 2 Episode 7 (came out yesterday) :  Bitcoin got mentioned again (I'm watching the episode right now) , this time they didn't show a picture but actually mention it... I'm not sure If it's a good or bad thing since they related to it to the Darknet like 100%

I think their talk about e-coin is like the bank's blockchain coin. But ya, they are not being Bitcoin friendly tying it to evil things implying that allowing the market to do its thing will end in people selling sex slaves and hired assassins.

Of course almost everyone who have knowledge in ai and technology really knows about bitcoin.  Robots and bitcoin was the product of never ending evolution of computer technology.  The producer and moreover the writer of that tv series maybe into bitcoin investment also.

e-coin was the corporate /private currency

e-coin isnt really a blockchain currency but more like Apple pay..

they did mention bitcoin several times. in relation to the main character messing with a silk road service.

I liked the first episode of season 1 of Mr. Robot, but after the first episode it seemed like 90% of the people had severe mental problems and had a Che Guevara mentality. Is the second season any better or more of the same?

I'm not too sure it's a positive thing, because each time around it gets mentioned in a bad sense, as if only the bad people are the ones using it.
I would like to see bitcoin more often mentioned in media, sure, but for it's technical and economical advantages, and not as a rogue payment system.

I first thought they were speaking about E-coin (like E-coin.io) then I understood that they were speaking about the evil corp coin.

It's a form of subliminal advertising. In this case, the objective isn't to provoke people to immediately throw it into a search engine (like you said, it's just a picture). The idea is to familiarise the viewers with the BTC symbol in a commercial setting, so that they will accept it more willingly when they do encounter it in real life. All TV drama, however fantastical, contains elements that ordinary people can relate to, like a mirror that shows them reflections of other people doing things they themselves haven't imagined yet (hence the drama).

An effective ad campaign uses a range of techniques, from overt marketing (e.g., commercials) to product placement in shows, and even more subtle methods.

Bitcoin needs all the advertising it can get. It is beyond me why the Bitcoin Foundation or even companies like Coinbase do so little marketing. See the link in my sig.

Sorry to get off-topic. To get back on topic, I did find a clip of the Bitcoin truck and yes, there's even an audible mention of Bitcoin in that scene.

If none of you have seen "Dope" i'd recommend watching it. Imagine if the story of "silk road" became a movie this would kinda be it, just on a much, much smaller scale. Some laughs to be had too. Back to my robot - the last episode gave me major brain farts like the worst the series has done to date  ;D

I don't think that there are many people on this forum that think that we're hackers just because we use Bitcoin, but there are certainly other people who might think that way. It's not up to me to determine how people think of things, but it is definitely possible that Bitcoin is some kind of cool money or whatever. I personally know that Bitcoin is just a currency and ity isn;t anything special, but that doesn't stop other people from romanticizing it.
