Hmmm.... I guess that will be the blocksize increase. If we can successfully increase the block size and scale up, and without compromising the network, that will the greater than the reward halving. However, there is no date to that yet!

I am anticipating the effects of halving of rewards to miners.Will it affect our transaction speed? Higher charges? Is mining still profitable? That remains to seen in the coming months.

If u mean blocksize increase in literal sense, i.e. though hard fork, then I doubt it'll ever happen. But, if u mean capacity increase through SegWit, which is equivalent to blocksize increase, then I'm unsure how the market will react to it in short term.

Bitcoin's only need is an international news report, it should be a good and informative report and once that happened, expect a thousands of people that will search bitcoin in Google. New users means new demand, new demand means price increase.

The next big event will be the deployment of segregated witness into the network. Once this happens, stuff like sidechain and Lightning Network will be closer than ever, so all we need is to keep supporting Core devs and we will get there.

I guess we have to wait for a flood of new users/investors, how this many come is anybodies guess. Maybe we need a big company to start accepting bitcoin.

By the way,the block hlaving didn`t boost the bitcoin price  :(

I wouldn`t say that it will be a big event.Maybe a couple of small events.

Maybe when investors start growing another bitcoin bubble.... ;D

Block size increase will never give us anything else than a quick pump and dump. It's the clever stuff like segwit hand lighting the stuff that makes the software more solid and trusted.

The next big event(s) that would be the biggest thing for Bitcoin and subsequently the value would be an increase in the blocksize to something for future-proof, being either 2MB or 4MB, depending on what might be required in order to maintain everything in the future.

The other big event would be a country publicly getting involved in Bitcoin one way or the other, especially a developed one.

what you didn't realize about block halving is that, it just happened so the effect which will boost bitcoin price up will happen soon but it takes a while to see that effect.
just take a look at last time it happened. it took nearly 2 month before any major rise in bitcoin price.

You know, generally the events won't come with months of warning, they just all of sudden happen. The halving awas an exception

I think the next event will be the openning of 10 petahash  mining farm of  MCafee.  I read that they have done some testing and already confirmed that they think it will work.  So they are aiming this mid August for the start of their project.  And probably the bubble burst :D

Its really hard to tell, it could be anything i reckon it will riase this year so prob a good time to buy.....

to me the next BIG event that can boost the price of bitcoin i think some countries will legalize bitcoin and they will impose tax on bitcoin. so it will make people more confident and they will invest most of their money here in bitcoin.

Still we are yet to see real halving effect on price. It will take several months but it is quite sure the recent halving can certainly boost the price within this year even without any new event. Atleast halving have made price stable above 600$ range.

See the link in my signature. The best way to increase the price of BTC is to increase demand for it, and the best way to increase demand is to have more users. Why the big players (e.g. Coinbase) don't have a marketing campaign is a mystery to me.

I really have no idea but maybe, just maybe, if bitcoin gains an official stand and global recognition, as in publicly recognized by all the powerful countries, may be boost bitcoin's price as there will be big investors that may join in the game.

I dotn think segwit will be much of a game changer, I dont think it will make more people want to invest. It will make the network run as it should but how many poeple are actually on the sideline thinking the transactions are too slow so i cant invest? the only thing i can see that will make any solid difference is the next halvning. Its worked every other time.

The next big thing can be if amazon or ebay implement the bitcoin on their system. Another big event can be if the block size would be increased for a double from now (2MB)

pantera for instance said they had a bitcoin project that couldn't run until it scaled better. i'll bet there are many more too.

alot of people will be holding back to see if bitcoin can truly serve the world or whether it remains a techno curio. scaling or not is the main barrier to that.

i think the next big even may be the increase of bitcoin while crossing the physiological limit and that is 1000 USD. i think that will be biggest event after that the price will again boost more high i think.

bitcoin does 300,000 transactions in  a day .  it can not grow much with that cap.

lets figure it this way  1mb means 1,000,000 and the smallest transaction in physical size is say 226 bytes so 1,000,000 divide by 226 = 4424 transactions in 1 block.

which is the perfectly largest amount.  take 4424 x 144 = 637,056 cap hard coded and that would be with absolute perfectly small transaction

instead may transactions a 2000 bytes  and we end up doing  about 300,000 of 637,000 each day.



BTC may grow in price for a lot of reasons  but with a 300000 practical cap on transactions along with 637,000 as the perfect max  we will not grow as a transaction mover.

So long term nothing is getting done about it segwit and off chain solutions will lead to scam and theft so segwit is great for a price crash and destruction of confidence any one that disagrees with that is welcome to put a btc into an insurance fund for the thefts that occur from segwit.  if they truly believe in the fund they would do so happily since they know it will work and will not cause theft.

a 1 mb to 2mb  is stop gap but stop gap is better then segwit.

Personally I would like BTC and ETH form an alliance where btc acts like a highway  and eth acts like a bus.

keep btc for bigger  transactions keep eth for smaller transactions

keep btc basic keep eth  gpu based

I believe this announcement   with Intel  AMD and Nvidia all onboard as eth coin backers would allow of the best of both worlds   and would sky rocket the two coins to new heights   say 2000 a coin  and 60 a coin respectively

I hope Apple or other companie besides microsoft accept bitcoin to purchase their products, would be insane to have more companies joining the game about bitcoin. Atleast this is my hope bitcoin achieve big companies then small merchants.

can anyone point to any company accepting helping the price along? i can't think of any examples.

at the end of the day the only group it would appeal to is people who already have bitcoin and there ain't too many of them. why would someone who wants a new iphone buy bitcoin with their credit card first so they can buy it? they'd buy with the card.

the only thing that would make a difference would be huge discounts and margins ain't exactly generous enough to allow that.

for now retail's a dead end. before it's used for that more people need to believe bitcoin is there to preserve their wealth.

Well most of the news about bitcoin on the internet is the negative one
Instead of pulling everyone closer to bitcoin it only drive them apart from bitcoin :(

But, there are many companies starting to integrate bitcoin into their system, which is good ;)
Their demand will affect the price I am sure of it

don't worry to much you will notice it when it happens. such news that is both big and effective on bitcoin price will spread like wildfire and everybody will know it when it happens, but you can't predict what it'll be. it can be another economical devastation of a country or it can be a new big company like steam accepting bitcoin.

nah i don't think so, tech specs, are only known by the jerk folks, the vast majority of average joe, don't know shit about segwit, LN and akin

the price will increase slowly, regardless of those event, but the real propeller would be something that make average joe believe that is a better choice over fiat, maybe government accepting it more via regulation...

So those who throw/extract millions of $ at/from the bitcoin supply don't know jack shit about the network and its potential? It's the average jodad tossing some dice or getting fleeced buying shitcoins on yobit that influence the price?

I see more and more online marketers and investors now turning to bitcoin and a surge of new lay persons entering the bitcoin field, so I think as more and more people need to work online, many of them will turn to using bitcoin in various sites/investments. Like anything though this will take some time to come into full effect.

i think halving is the only major event in btc that inflate too much orice. after that is the dumping of btc buy the big whales. expect that. hahhaa

them not knowing these technical stuff can actually help the hype of such a news grow bitcoin price. and on the other hand all those big investors in bitcoin know at least some stuff about the technical stuff about bitcoin so they will read about the block size and any change can actually have a big effect.

I think all the big companies do the acceptance of payment depends on the condition of the company. Because sometimes they don't take things that are too complicated to be done (they are looking for a simple and easy) in the sense that they are doing a simplification in any data obtained. But it could have happened, if the market really needs a bitcoin in any transaction conducted

If Hearn leaving could move the price, then certainly segwit on the ground should increase confidence. Also, if we see anyone else exiting the European Union, or needing a huge government wide bailout, price should react. Finally, adoption by a major retailer, or payment processor.

average joe is irrelevant. there are enough switched on people who might be interested in it who decide to sit it out and wait when they realise how limited it is. there are tons of influential people who need to get on board. average joe does what they tell him to do.

it depends on the company and much it is being received by its customer. for example a small company with small number of users is not gonna affect anything.

also the effect is not gonna be right away. it will take a long time so people start to realize that bitcoin is in fact a real currency and not just something for the nerds to play with.

yes i think the big event will be when the states and governments will accept bitcoin as a currency. i think that will be more big event even from halving.

This is impossible since government know what would be the impact for them once they accept a type of currency that can't be control by higher people. They don't want decentralized coin to take over the world.

but i think even then govt still cannot control it from become the world number one crypto currency. i am sure that at the end every country will accept it as a currency and they will allow their people to use it.

i think there is no need for any next big thing because bitcoin price is looking good and rising over time.

but if you are looking for a news, i think anything positive about the block size can be powerfull enough to make some big changes and raise the price up.

News build speculations, whether it will take the price or down.

Speculations builds plans to be executed, whether to go for a long or short.

For bitcoin price to up, it needs manipulators action to start a trend from different exchanges. Normal event that will take place in bitcoin will be now be the expected reason of the rally that will happen.

I sure if every country will accept bitcoin as a currency but just for assisting the main currency because it's too difficult using a real currency in the digital life. the government will never think to make the bitcoin become their main currency because at first, bitcoin is made for easier the digital life.

Over the falling days or weeks, there is no more special events similar to the halving. Probably the gradual rise of price makes periodical increase as a special event without getting much focus.

i must say that the number of scam sites has reduced a little because due to halvong effect many mining sites flew away but we have seen a twist on this halving and now they are comming back.but this time we are going to see those roaring markets

but to me i think the next booing news that can boom the price of bitcoin is the psychological limit mean 1000$ limit. when the bitcoin will cross that limit the price of bitcoin will certainly increase without any doubt.

I think it would just be a gradual price increase over the four year period to the next halving. Anyway i think for there to be a boost to the bitcoin price, the would have to be a significant increase in the demand and supply ratio. After all, thats what actually determines the prices of the bitcoin and other small factors.

Next halving will be really big event for all of us as by then price of bitcoin will be at moon, and next halving will add more fuel to the fire which will take bitcoin to extraordinary level.

Brexit has already happened. But, it did not have much effect on bitcoin price. This is because, Britain was never a hub of bitcoin. Positive news from China & Russia may have much more effect on bitcoin's price.

I think the next is another halving in four years time from now) However, if we talk about some other events that may boost the price, we have to remember about this quantum computer people have already created in a 'light version'. Some say this is how bitcoin will die. However, I don't think it is a real threat.

There is nothing that may have such an impact on the price that it will go up quite a lot. The block size increase may lead to a short term increase, but this will not last. I think from now on the price has to go up due to increased demand that will build up year on year.
