Title: [FS] Undervolted S7s, 3.7-4TH 870-1050W (~0.24J/GH) with PSUs
Post by: sidehack on July 18, 2016, 04:19:03 PM
I have some full S7s available, all of which have been undervolted and tested for stability (<0.01% HW errors) at a peak clock setpoint. Each has been tested on a DPS1200 PSU with breakout board and 10 cables. The numbers are as follows:

#60: 600MHz (4TH) 1050W 0.26J/GH (sold)
#61: 550MHz (3.7TH) 870W 0.234J/GH (sold)
#62: 600MHz (4TH) 950W 0.235J/GH (sold)
#63: 600MHz (4TH) 925W 0.23J/GH (sold)
#64: 600MHz (4TH) 970W 0.240J/GH (sold)

I'm looking for $450 from each 4TH unit and $425 from a 550MHz unit. This includes shipping (within the US) and PSU hardware - a DPS1200 PSU, interface board and 10 cables. If you don't want the PSU, subtract $75 from the asking price.

I'll take it.

Umm, I was going to say that it's $291 directly from bitmain, but since "he'll take it" ,let him take it.....

371 is with shipping  291 is no shipping.  The gear is quiet.  Very nice in an office that is freezing cold due to too much AC.

It's $291+ shipping from Bitmain [totaling $357 for me], he is doing $400 shipped. So yes it's a bit more but not much.

Also, unlike Bitmain he stands behind his work. I have purchased power boards and USB sticks from him. You are dealing with an actual human that responds to messages and e-mail. That matters, a lot. I had an issue with one of the sticks, in the end I kind of made it work. But he was perfectly willing to deal with it however I wanted.

Or, what philipma1957 said, oh and use DHL it's cheaper the UPS. And why would you want to trust your packages to a company that has an acronym that is pronounced oops.

UPS joke is funny.

I have better luck with them then DHL or Fedex with overseas.

UPS wants 80.98 to ship this unit
Fedex wants 53.78 to ship this unit
DHL wants 66.75 plus to ship this.

So  it is 344.78 to 371.98 direct from bitmaintech.

I know sidehack  used UPS  for 1st order had zero issues  + 0 fees
I know sidehack used DHL for 2nd order had many issues + fees.

Another difference between what I have listed and what Bitmain is selling, mine runs a slightly lower hashrate at substantially reduced power and fan noise. Phil can attest to that; he's got one of 'em.

DaveF, PM and we'll work out the details.

Later this afternoon I'll have some full S7 that have been undervolted as well. Overnight stability test looked good.

Oh damn, I did not realize shipping would be so much!  :o

Yeah then it's definitely a better deal considering he did the work of undervolting it for you which of course carries some labor value.

Happy mining!

another difference, if there was any customs charge SH already absorbed this too. no need to call someone at DHL to release :)

Looks like the S7LN has sold. I've got the numbers for the undervolted S7s so I'll put them in the first post.

Wow, this mod causes power efficiency to be remarkable for S7;
for example, 950W vs 1293X1.1=1422W equal 33% power savings.

Don't forget to factor in the reduced hashrate. It's 33% less power cost but about 15% less return. Though the improved efficienty disproportionately decreasing power cost does extend viable life, which is the real benefit.

it also allows for a lesser psu to run the gear.

These do have a higher heat density than the S7LN so you can't run the fans as low. That said, there's less heat density than a full S7 so you can run the fans lower. And since the boards are pretty much at baseline stability, you do want to keep them warm to make sure the current is flowing. One of them I have the fans set at 30% in about 90F ambient and doing fine. The others have default fan speed and board temps in the 50s so they can be turned down some.

Short answer, quieter but still loud.

Bump for added another unit. Got one more testing, hopefully will be added tomorrow. If I can find an agreeable source I'd like to keep these in regular stock.

I'm rather interested in one of these units. I wanted a s7-ln but seems they are sold out now haha.

I probably can ship to the UK, yeah. I haven't done a lot of international shipping so I'm not sure what different carriers require for paperwork; the easiest thing for me is to be provided a label (I have ready access to UPS, FedEx and DHL) but not everyone has an account to do that. We can discuss details in a PM.

These units aren't as quiet, but they are more efficient than a stock S7LN. The two I just added (63 & 64) are both running pretty good in 85-100F ambient on 30% fan speed so in a cool room they could go lower. For minimum-threshold-voltage boards, running hot seems to help with stability. Everything not marked as "sold" is still up for grabs.

Perfect :) I'll happily purchase one Thursday when payday hits. With wife approval of course haha.

If they haven't sold by then. I'm not sure when I'll be getting more to work up.

I'll take one if you still have.
How much for shipping to Canada (toronto)?

I still have two of 'em, take your pick.

As for shipping, I'll have to get back to you. I tend to use FedEx for packages but I've had no luck with not getting screwed on sending FedEx packages to Canada. Any way you could send a label for pretty much any major service?

the S7 i bought from sidehack is working good on kanos pool.. i had to lower it down to 575 because i was getting x's in chain 1..

its right at .25j/ghs and i put on AFB1212-SHE fans so its pretty quiet, specially at night when it gets cooler.. i have them set to automatic so its about 3400 rpm daytime and about 3100 night.
i tried one stock fan with the 1-fan rom, but that rom just makes that fan run at full speed on auto.. it gets too cold at night and shuts off..

i wish i can set the fan curve manually. not just the fan speed.. but the whole curve.. at night i can run the fans down to about 2400 rpm and still be ok, but daytime i need higher.

the trick is to keep the boards above 55c.. if they run too cold, it just goes idle. 0 hashing and 23c.

another strange thing about that s7 is the light blinks red instead of green. not sure what its trying to tell me. anyone know what the light colors are for?

i ordered a pickit3 and im waiting for it to come in so i can do my other s7.

1) The LN that I got from you is working great.

2) This might be a stupid question but.... I have a few of your Dell 750W power supply boards. If I get the last S7 from you would I be better off running 2 boards on 1 supply and the 3rd board and the controller on another or would it be better to link them together this way http://www.gekkoscience.com/products/D750_3way.html (http://www.gekkoscience.com/products/D750_3way.html)?

It'll be more reliable to run the two supplies tied together. One concern with a two-supply setup is the fan/controller PSU dropping out and the two other boards idling with no airflow can cause problems.

As of right now, all my undervolted miners are spoken for. I'll bring this back up if I get more.
