London, July 14, 2016 -- Wirex Limited has availed its popular bitcoin debit card for free for worldwide users. From July 2016 onwards, free virtual cards denominated in either USD, GBP or EUR can be redeemed from Wirex app, which is available for Android and iOS users.

The move is expected to benefit new and existing Wirex/E-Coin users with no existing cards in accounts. Upon registration or login in the Wirex app, users can order and receive bitcoin debit card (virtual; worth $3) directly from the app. Wirex has also posted a text tutorial and video tutorial on how to redeem the free card.

“We want to make it easy for the bitcoin community to spend bitcoins online, for free,” said Pavel Matveev, co-founder of Wirex (previously E-Coin), “Simply order the virtual card through Wirex app and now users can spend bitcoins anywhere Visa and Mastercard are accepted. We’re happy to give a lot more spending power to bitcoin users.”

Aside from acting as a shopping tool and bitcoin debit card, Wirex virtual cards can also be used as an online banking account that can be accessed worldwide via desktop or mobile, to perform fiat-to-fiat conversions, to make cheap and fast international money transfer, to verify PayPal accounts and much more. In the advantages of virtual Visa card article, the virtual cards can also be used to buy bitcoins with PayPal (in 37 countries), bank transfers and Alternative Payment Methods.

For non-bitcoin users, Wirex card accounts can be funded with many payment options, including bank transfers, PayPal, and other popular alternative payment methods such as Alipay, P24, GiroPay and much more. A full list of supported alternative payment methods can be found in Wirex’s blog post, “Ways to Top Up Your Wirex and E-Coin Account.”

A verified account is not required but recommended for the best Wirex experience. Verified accounts get more account funding options as well as higher limits on the card. Wirex app users will be able to use E-Coin platform until further notice. All users, cards, and accounts will move over to the new wirexapp.com platform once it launches.

Really promising project. There are several similar projects, but none of them offers free service. I will keep an eye on it.

I take it as most of these cards are US restricted? Meaning US residents cannot get these cards?

one question, if it is a virtual card  then why to ship and what to ship?

Virtual card is virtual, not phisical  ;D

In case that you order a plastic card, you'll set an address where it will be delivered. So, in case of virtual card it won't be shipped, but you'll see number of card and PIN in the email that you've setted.

Hi. Yes, offer is free, you can have a free virtual card and you can link it to your paypal account without any problem. Yes, it can be used to verify in partial way your account.

I do badly need one of this.Unfortunately,my country isn't available from one of the mentioned list above.However,is there a way I can ask someone off shore to have it shipped and then use normally in my country ? Would it work ? I have an active account associated with Wirex,which works fine.I'm assuming the card shouldn't have any issues.Do reply.

I think for next time wirex app must provide phisical card too is like okpay and another service, it will become more complete services of wirex app. And there are choice on its service not one choice only.

Plastic card doesn't have any cost, the only thing to pay is the delivery.

It is very happy to know that their is one more debit card in the market with bitcoin supporting, but sad that still India is not included to use this Bitcoin Debit Card. If any news of releasing in the indian market inform me.

Well, If you have an available address in another country We support, you may request a Virtual Visa. The detail is you may not verify it, as you don't have verification documents on the other country. So you will have to work with the limits for unverified users.

i see in the fees Monthly SMS notification fee (not optional) 1$ is this apply also on virtual card?

Stay away from these guys. It's not scam but in contrary to their help page the wire transfer took 3 weeks each (tried two times) and the BTX transfer is credited to my account but blocked since two days. Totally ridiculous.
