Title: Would you be happy repeatedly flipping a coin with an opponent to gamble?
Post by: TippingPoint on July 24, 2016, 06:39:29 PM
Ask yourself this:
Would you be happy repeatedly flipping a coin with an opponent to gamble?
That is exactly 50/50
Would that be better or worse than what you do now?

Every game whatsoever is a game of chance and depending on how averse to risk will determine how far you're will to earn will determine the chances you're willing to take. For me, if its with an individual yes I will take my chances but not with machine in which I can't trust to have equal chance as me... My 2 cents...

I personally like to choose the odds for the bets I place, I feel this puts me in more control. I rarely place 50/50 bets (excluding the house edge) because I think it's down to luck using this method. When I use something like martingale I feel as though luck has less to do with the outcome and it is more consistent.

Maybe if I was a retarded six year old child.  As an adult who has taken statistics, you would not catch me betting on coin flips.  Most gambling ends up on the losing end anyway,  and there are so many other things to do with your money.

This thread is just sig spam bait anyway,  but hey thanks OP.  We need more topics like this.

I like the quick 50/50 best because you win/lose your money faster than using some type of strategy or min bets on other types of gambling websites.

I would. I think it is better to lose to another player then to the house ? Maybe someone feels another way with this ? Anyone doesn't agree ? I see one vote doesn't agree. But why ? Interested.

What's the point of this ? You need to play non stop for hours till the 50/50 comes into play. And playing against an opponent is not a very wise thing to do. At least in my country Serbia where people have even lost their lives in land casinos because of the alcohol and the nerves of the play. They have lost playing poker , when things heated up and the massacre happened. I remember it well and that's why I never put my feet in any land casino here. It's not worth and I prefer to bet from my own dark room without anyone knowing what I am doing. My vote is too to disagree with this and keep playing against the house but know in the long run you can lose because of the tiny house edge.

It would be incredibly boring. Unless the the other person was drunk or you were joking around and you were using two trick coins  - one coin that was heads on both sides and another coin that was tails on both sides - and you were using some simple slight of hand to switch between coins so that you won most/all of the time. Again, only funny as a joke. Otherwise with a real coin, just boring af.

I do it with completely random, because if i using strategy on my mind, it's always ended lose and if i randomly choose the chance to win is more higher for me.

Just like the old times? Well, I think people nowadays do not like that type of game (especially online) since it will be just a flip of coin, there will be no thrill for the players. Gamblers believe imo that when they can choose the odds and use some strategies, chances of winning will be higher. But for me, all of that will still depend on luck. Strategies and techniques are just an advantage, if you are lucky enough you'll win and if not, then "better luck next time". Anyways, I'm not into that type of games and not really into gambling.

I think everyone do understand this thing because flipping coin is sure 50/50 chance without any single house edge meanwhile dice game sure have house edge which mean you will lose everything on a long run but not in 50/50 chance game. I think it has so much different with dice game for sure

I don't like flipping coin, despite I do it all the time to determing some contentious issues when arguing with my friends IRL.
I definitely wouln't do it for a big money. It is simply not rewarding enough for me.

And what about theoretical third outcome, in which the coin comes to rest upright on its edge?

it's funny to see this here now. because i was actually thinking about this.

mathematically i can't figure out if it is really different than dice with 50/50 chance but with my logic i have got a feeling that there should be a difference because there is only 2 results not 100s of results like dice.

so i wanted to try it but i don't know where!

real gamblers know how to find an edge and gain an advantage, no matter how small that advantage may be. Flipping a coin is pure luck and therefore dumb

People used to do that with CS:GO skins, and I think that's probably where you got the idea from. As for it being a good idea or not/there being any interest, it might be a somewhat good idea and if you design the site right it might be a good idea, but you have to make it look less like massive Bitcoin losses and more like a sort of game, like how CS gambling sites used to do it. That's the best way to make sure people keep gambling to my knowledge, when using a system like that.

by "with an opponent" if you mean PvP then yes, because that is the real 50/50 chance with none of us having the edge, unlike when playing against the house which has the edge.

actually i think this is why the PvP type dice game was somewhat the favorite of some people back in the days when PD let it happen.

No, i won't do that. Repeatedly flipping a coin in the same side is really risky on gambling, you can easily get busted if you do that. I always do it randomly so i can't easily get busted.

Yup, this is a waste of time. The only people those who play just for time pass and also they don't want to lose their money they can try this 50/50. Offcourse I do play gambling just for time pass, but if I follow this method, it will be not fun. So I will not use this method.

i may be interested to try it out and test some strategies in a real 50/50 chance game but i think it can get real boring real fast, it is similar to dice after all and they are both kind of boring so against an opponent not but against the site with the same odds maybe with auto bet.

Umm... What ?? What difference does it make who gets your money ? It is way better to let your opponent have it then give it to an already filthy rich casino.

Oh and OP you dont flip with nopponent you flip against an opponent. Saying with means you on the same side.

Actually if you say and actually people believe so then the dice sites would have been clean and no one playing.
The main problem with this idea of coin flipping is that you get bored very soon and on the other hand dice we can change % of winning and hence is not so boring.

Well not really, i wont be happier but i kind of like this kind of game its like rolling dice game where you bet high or low, but flipping coin has a limitation of bet, you can only bet tail or head, you cant set win percentage like in the dice game and the odds will be 50:50 unless you find a new way of develop the game

Maybe this can be made less boring by introducing some fun games like you play with opponent and just have to win at least 1 time within 4 bets and hence you get 1.25 odds, while opponent gets 4.00 odds, I mean this would be less boring rather than start hating it.

i usually play dice games and also there is always a house edge so if there is a game that i can play against an opponent with no house edge i surely will choose that game.

but also i think the 50/50 chance because of the only two result of the coin flip makes things completely fair to both sides. so yes i like such a game.

True but some people think that they cannot loose the toss or coin flip more than 4-5 times in a row and hence they may love the game. My personal opinion is you have to modify this game to get any interest from people. Somehow change the odds and way of playing.

Yes dice is hopeless fpr consistancy. You need something you can get better at and improve gambling like dice there is nothing that can be done to raise your odds but sports betting there is a lot you can do to make a well informed pick.

I throw my hat into the yes column, because realistically the fun is in the engagement, risk and potential reward. Flipping a coin with a friend might not be innovative or new, but it still does what it needs to do to keep me entertained and playing.

I think once games get too complicated, that's when they're too annoying to gamble on.

Not really, the people who do martingale on dice or anything else are going to love this game because they have got quicker results and no house edge to face with. But I am still not sure if you would be able to sign many members because people are moving towards more mordern games and you are going to ancient times.

I would rather choose dice than flipping coin.

I don't think that works. People may say whatever they want, but the main reason people gamble, and that is well reported in psychological and sociological studies, is the illusion of controlling an unexpected event, and the pleasure that comes from that. Of course that there are many other variables, but that is base behind gambling success. You go to a casino or talk to a gambler, or even look the the threads on this forum, and you will see people discussing strategies for gambling, when everyone knows but prefer to ignore that there is something called house edge, and you are expected to lose in the long run, and although you can win in the short run because you are lucky, it will definitely not because of your amazing strategy.

So if you put something like the flip of a coin, the margin or illusion is smaller, it will be harder to convince yourself that you have a strategy to win and control the flip of a coin. Although even there you will see people discussing martingale and other betting strategies.

So flipping a coin, playing roulette or craps or dice or whatever, will be the same, but it will feel worse because it's harder to fool yourself on such a simple game.

(I exclude poker and sports betting, because there is strategy involved there, although the base is the same, trying to control the unexpected, but you do have a small chance of doing that, but luck still plays a large role even in these games)

How come is there no winner? You're talking about the possibility of loosing? Think about the dice games. Higher payout, lower chances. Lower payout, higher chances. It's the same 50/50 chance, but the trick is that you can 'choose the payout and chance to win'. There's no such thing. In the long run you'll loose whether it's dice game, coin flip or anything else.

Assuming there is no middleman taking any money out as "fees" etc, in the long run no one will come out ahead on average in a coin flip. Over an infinite amount of fixed bets between two people, they'll end up with the same amount of money on average as when they started. Of course this is discounting luck, but as we all know luck isn't consistent, and statistically there will be no winner over a large number of bets.

and mostly because of the 50/50 chance and only two results of head or tails unlike dice which has a lot of numbers.
i would like to try martingale strategy on that system to see how it is going to work on suck restuls.

i feel like it may not be that different but i am intrigued to try it out.

Well that is going to be faster way of gambling just like dicing and it is going to be a good way if you are really an addicted gambler.

And if your hands are very itchy to gamble then you are going to do something just to satisfy your gambling needs.

This is going to be a good gambling substitute.

Flipping a coin is just like dice game. However, for dice game, you can choose the number of multiply as you like and you even have bots to help you auto gamble. You can try out different methods so it is more fun than just blindly rolling a dice. However, the more fun the games are, it usually comes with more house edge.
