Well, Sys and Maidsafe are going strong and they seem to differ from other altcoins so they could be widely used someday.

I think the Ethereum will be used widely in the future. But it depends on if it can survive the new problems.

if anything can go out of the lab and be used widely in the real world that would be one of the older coins and none of the new coins, the new ones may be able to do it but they have to stay alive for a couple of years at least.

and i highly doubt that it is ethereum. because it is as i said new, and it has a lot of problems.

The obvious one ETH / ETC or whatever it's going by these days, it's hard to see for sure what other ones could do well, WBB I feel is under the radar right now with some potential, RBR also but it is a risk to be buying into right now.

I doubt eth but you never know. Im hoping for waves if they ever get the integration done and develop it as it should be. Failing that then maybe dash will pick up a bit more and become a good competitor though maybe not so likely. Chances are that whatever coin is going to become widely used probably doesnt even exist yet.

ETH will not be used as a currency unless the bitcoin is killed its own developers. The ETH will be used mainly by business.

Time has not come for cryptocurrencies for mainstream adoption. So, it is hard to say. It would be probably one of the top ten coins or a completely new one that is not created yet. However, besides Bitcoin my favorites are NEM, NXT and probably ETH.

Altcoins are mostly here for speculation and exist as a kind of testnet!
Lots of them are premined and don't have a huge community or pool of great developers. It's all about pump and dump.
That sound hard but is the truth!
Maybe we will see  a handfull of alts who might make into mainstream as well beside Bitcoin, but I doubt this coins already exist.

Plutons (token of PLUTUS). They already have a working product, only the PLUTUSdex is in development. But that too, will be released by end of year.

Besides, once it is released, you can use it any merchants shop where NFC is working. And ya, you can use your bitcoin or ethereum to pay for the goods...

AFAIK, microsoft decide to use ETH so it will greatly increase altcoin popularity gradually.
But for some reason like bitcoin decreasing value will slower it's popularity. Anyway it's one step foward for bitcoin industry to get known more worldwide

I think after the DAO hack, more people will hear about the Etherum. So there is a publicity of ETH and the price could rise.

Monero (XMR) because it is private, untraceable, secure, fungible, decentralized, and requires no trusted setup.

Think about this: the dark markets wouldn't endorse and use Monero if it didn't truly have the attributes listed above. They have too much at stake to use anything but the best. You don't need to be a dark market user to appreciate Monero...just if you want to keep your financial information private and untraceable.

Agree with c79. XMR has now positioned itself as the coin to hold after bitcoin. Before it maybe was LTC but after the recent development of the darknet markets accepting XMR it cannot be denied that an economy in the real world will slowly be built around it. The economy will be underground or be in a black market but it will be real. Maybe in 2 years we will see the 2nd coin to reach $100 for each.

I think the Ethereum will be used widely in the future. But it depends on if it can survive the new problems.
I almost (!) laughed out loud at this.

The only coins in existence that are going to see wide use are the ones that are already being used.  DOGE, litecoin, and maybe one or two others are the only ones I know of that get spent.  Other than that, I don't know exactly what OP means by "widely".  Bitcoin probably can't even be considered as being widely used.  The other ones have miniscule use by comparison, and that's likely all they're ever going to have.

maybe the OP wants that ethereum use for widely from now. but in my mind, i think its doge, litecoin, dash, xmr will be used widely in future becasue bitcoin as mother of all coins, then the varian is doge, litecoin, dash, xmr and this altcoins is like bitcoin act to be mother of their varian. so i think that altcoins will be used widely.

My popular App is turning into a DApp AppCoin. I think It'll be a good way to bring people into cryptocoins. Bring them into a centralized website that leads them into the decentralized use of the system. Dcentralized systems are crazy hard to use. It should be a nice bridge between systems.

Its really far to be happen since mostly people preferred to used bitcoin uptil now and stores are slowly adopting to use it aswell as we can easily cashout our btc in any banks we want(im in phils we can do it instant) but i dont think eth can function the same as bitcoin there so many things for eth to probe with and although i believe that it will used widely but provably it will be an secondary option for people since they would provably exchange their eth to btc so it can be usefull for them.

Starting late October 2016 WBB (and 1ex.trade) will biz signing up to use their coin and ecosystem.  It can be great case use study to finally see a NEW hybrid type coin/wallet system work with companies that actually want to use a legit AG business/tech platform. :) Thus I see it being more widely used than most alts in due time.

This has got to be Litecoin.  It simply has the longevity and more closely matches the current FIAT system in the USA.  It will be easier for people to make a transition in their mind from a coin that is around 4 to 1 than it will be for them to make a 600 to 1 conversion.

I think eth/etc, waves, lisk, and the others are faddish.  The coins that will have longevity besides bitcoin are ltc, doge, dash.

That's it.  And dash is questionable,  and don't flame me because I've heard the arguments for it being a premined scamcoin and such.  Don't matter in the least.   As long as people keep using it, it'll be around.

People grew up thinking one way and the road from point A to point B is going to be a long one.  In their minds they look at an object and immediately place a FIAT dollar value on it.  It is going to take time to look at the same things and see them in a new value system and it will be easier for them to do that with something like Litecoin.

I read some news recently and I stumbled on this article - BITWALA: "NOBODY USES ALTCOINS". BITCOIN IS THE TOP CRYPTO.

Apparently Bitwala, a known bitcoin payment processor revealed that even though it accepts 40 altcoins, the startup will focus most of its interest on the Bitcoin network.
Company states while everyone is excited about these technologies "nobody uses them".

Anonymous and blablabla.... I think there is no coin is real anonymous maybe I can say that is just semi-anonymous... and they made monero is anonymous just for advertising their coin and get popularity and for my personality all of the coin is same i don't ever think there are a coins is like having more anonymous or another like that.

The darkmarkets wouldn't use and endorse Monero if it wasn't everything it's claimed to be. They have too much at risk to trust their activities to anything but the best:

https://np.reddit.com/r/DarkNetMarkets/comments/4z0wm3/alphabay_market_launched_first_phase_of_monero/

https://np.reddit.com/r/DarkNetMarkets/comments/4yv1dc/oasis_we_now_accept_monero_xmr/

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/4xqrzd/sigaint_launches_tor_monero_node_as_its_operators/

I like the idea of nobody else knowing how much (or little) money I have. Most coins, even those claiming to be private coins, have a "Rich List." Monero doesn't...it can't since it really is private. With negative interest rates looming, I'm all for a coin that keeps my information private and untraceable. Obviously the darknet folks are moving to Monero and will continue to do so, but I believe there will be more and more "regular" folks who see the value in having a private currency. Either way, Monero use and demand should grow.

There are  many, but you need trust too and that comes from the life cycle.  Pumping and dumping with new coins will go through the roof when if they could buy and sell items with those same coins.  Mine the new altcoin for five days and be able to buy a car with it?  That is where the time that ICONOMI has been around can help.

Monero may get large attention as it has recently been added in few darkweb marketplaces which will surely increase demand as well people will start to search about it. But i don't believe that monero can actually replace bitcoin however with recent development i think they can grow now even faster.

Monero started out the same Bitcoin did but Bitcoin had a roughly 5 years head start. Monero has a chance at digging into Bitcoins marketshare with stronger fundamentals for financial privacy. Nobody will use Bitcoin like they use their credit card since every transaction will be up for public display, there are already companies who map out users of Bitcoin and at some point they will tie people to addresses if they use it for buying normal goods. Companies deal in information like this when it comes to user data to find out what people will buy for example and with Bitcoin it'll be even easier to do.

Bitcoin will always have it's place but it's more like digital gold for me. I think Bitcoin will be number one for a long time, perhaps even forever I don't have a certain opinion on that will just have to see what emerges. One thing that is clear to me though is that Monero's fundamentals creates digital cash which is perfect in time since very few wants to use cash anymore not even governments just because it is considered inconvenient in a increasingly digitalized society however they might be open to the idea of digital cash and as much as I like Bitcoin in current form it is not that.

This coin came up with unique idea and big investors invested much in this coin may they will keep this coin and the team is also doing great in spreading this coin.

Monero.

monero will be abused in the dark web but not really used widely like bitcoin, so i think another one might get that place other than bitcoin, maybe zerocash? or bitcoin is simply the king there

What altcoin can go out of the lab and get a widely used?
xem?eth?btc?
I think eth can't be widely used in the real world

I think Ethereum will be future in widely used because if you can go to coinbase.com and there already added eth there you can now buy eth using your coinbase account and no doubt about ethereum to be wideley used soon and there are a lot of transaction are made every day and people showing some interest in Iconomi ( i don't advertise this one) choose at your own risk.

The Ethereum is supported by most good and famous exchanges. I think it is a safe bet that it will rise again.
For now its not good to buy right now because the price is high. better to wait more days or weeks to see that the price will decrease and after that you can now buy so that you can a profit..

The Etheruem price is quite reasonale at the moment. It is not too high. So it could be bought to make profit.

i don't believe if the alt coin will be get a widely used, but i'm confused about the widely used means? and why if according from the fact all of the listed coin is already widely used from a lot of people around the world, but for implementing into the real life that is so far for did it.
we don't too long for discussing about the widely used of alt coin, just think about the widely used of bitcoin(including real implementation of bitcoin is already make me confused)

Im thinking the same altcoin too which is XMR(Monero)  since  its  usage and  existence have  been  improved  and now commonly used on darknet  on illegal  transaction which is  really a good  sign that  this coin would  have  the potential to be  next into bitcoin but its just my opinion though.

ETH and xem for today be used just for trading there are not usage for real life all of them, but in my opinion the altcoins that will be used for real life and widely is ripple because it is has clear fungtion for sending money around the countries. Although it is still not be accepted.

I dont know really what will stay. I just buy their coins and take a profit in it for a short time. If they are competing for that then it would not be my business anymore as log as they can make me money.

As far as I'm concerned there is only one altcoin and that is Litecoin. Any other coin in the current form will not become widely used, we need something completely different not the same rinse and repeat nonsense that is decimating the credibility of Bitcoin.

Yes litecoin is. I use it for about two years now if I am not wrong and till today this coin still exist and gain more attentions. I use litecoin since we can use it to gamble at a bunch of gambling sites.

if i wanted to choose an altcoin and bet that this one is going to be successful in the long term more than other current existing altcoins i would surely choose "Litecoin" too.

what some people don't realize is that, in alternative crypto currency markets it is pretty tough to be able to keep the market cap up with an stable price, and also this coin is being developed and improved too if you check their code they are constantly working on it and improving the coin.

Usability of any altcoin worthy enough to get attention on the world stage.

probably ethereum because there are many projects working with their blockchain, and it has many fans.
I think maybe it's just emotion but there are still to many things to see in ethereum and smart contracts,I think rather the first projects are the most basic things to them comes to mind.

Doge, ETH and Monero are most popular ones. Monero seems not so popular at first sight, but it deliver privacy to its users, so it can go up in whole crypto market and Monero price can also go up.  ;)

Ethereum is a leader in smart contract platform but with time I can see a better program doing a better job than Ethereum and Ethereum hype will fade away. I think Factom has a real shot, it has a real world use and has been able to attract investors, the slow and steady nature of factom will surely the the project

Some casinos are accepting altcoins on top of Bitcoin. FortuneJack is accepting: Dash, NMC, CLAM, DOGE, RDD, PPC, NVC and of course Litecoin.
DirectBet - wide known sportsbook is accepting: BTC, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash & Ether there are more, but I suspect altcoin are not used that much at all.

This is very interesting to follow and I can see new setup coin is coming wow .cheers.

Monero could also survive. It can offer anonyous transactions. That is very useful to protect the privacy.

thanks,everyone
I don't think LTC, XmR,fct, lisk, wave will have all the future
All there is no real world demand, are speculation and bubble
LTC lacks growth, XmR is poloniex and dark net speculation
agree with danker,I doubt this coins already exist too.
Perhaps now is still in an initial stage, only the application of the platform class appeared a leap, there will be real-world applications appear
sorry for my bad english
