Title: Questions on my future bitcoin casino project!
Post by: cho-cho-train on July 26, 2016, 04:10:25 AM
Hey guys I'm new to everything, bitcoin, btc casino, this forum and etc.
After using a few bitcoin casino's i thought it would be nice if I start my own btc casino, and i figured out the script (gonna purchase one) but i couldn't figure some stuff out.
Here's a few questions I had:
 1. Do i need a license? How much is the license?
 2. Are we all sure it's legal?
 3. What kind of domain do i need to buy if I want to put my own script? (I heard there were a couple of different types of scrupts)

Crazy. There is a lot of competition already, and yeah, you will have to deal with legal loopholes if you want to use FIAT at all. Otherwise, idk, some of these sites operate without much of a legal basis, but I'm sure the successful ones like Fortune Jack have the proper documents.

It would also depend on where you live and where you plan to operate, i think.

You need a decent bankroll too. Otherwise you're going to have a difficult time getting people to even show up.

If you're serious, contact a lawyer... People might give you a lot of advice on this forum, or any forum for that matter, but it doesn't constitute as legal advice.

Even if you found a lawyer on this forum, you must realise the laws differ from country to country (or state to state), so running a casino hosted on a server in country A while you're in country B might be perfectly legal, while running the exact same casino but hosted in country X while you're in country Y might send you straight to jail.

Thanks for the advice, and not trying to prove anyone wrong here but according to some research i've done i heard btc casino's are completely legal due to the fact that people don't use real "money" but would btc and other cryptocurrencies considered "illegal"?

In some country's this statement will probably be correct, in other ones it'll be incorrect.
For example, a quick search on this forum diggs up this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=299393.0

Too soon to make a decision ? I feel you should probably spend some time learning about bitcoins/bitcoin gambling in general.Starting a business without having a clear idea about how stuff works is big move, chances of failure are more.

Here's a few questions I had:
 1. Do i need a license? How much is the license?
Yes.you need a license in compliance with your country's jurisdiction.Your casino must obey the rules laid out by your nation's law authorities if at all they allow gambling. It's banned in most of the Asian countries, just so you know.
2. Are we all sure it's legal?
>Refer to ^answer.Depends on your jurisdiction.
3. What kind of domain do i need to buy if I want to put my own script? (I heard there were a couple of different types of scrupts)
Buy any domain. It isn't end there.Be ready for a heavy investment.Couple of 100 btc's if you're planning to make money out of it on a business level.

Learn. Research. Repeat. I think that's the best advice I can give you.

1. Depends on the country you're in. http://ezinearticles.com/?What-Countries-Allow-Online-Gambling&id=6667117
2. It depends. For instance, Bryan Micon was raided at gunpoint: http://www.pokernews.com/news/2015/02/seals-with-clubs-chairman-bryan-micon-police-raid-20740.htm
3. It's less about the domain name and more about the hosting. AWS and Azure don't allow gambling. You need a host that allows gambling with a private virtual server that allows you to pick your own OS.

Basic Security:
Follow a standard: https://cryptoconsortium.org/standards/CCSS
-Encrypt your whole disk (FIPS 140-2 or higher)
-Check your script for a backdoor, you're better off getting someone to code a new one for you from a trusted member.
-Don't allow any-any rules for your firewall (inbound or outbound)
-Run Qualys scans on your server
-Implement 2FA for users and admin.
-Don't use weak ciphers or weak hashes for passwords (MD5, SHA1)
-Encrypt transit data to your encrypted wallet
-Use cold wallets with watch addresses where possible
-Make sure your domain and hosting registrar won't change data without verifying your identity.
-Use a web application firewall
-Prepare for DDoS
-Don't trust any general support staff you bring on to manage security

Hey,

1. No you don't need a license since its going to be based on Bitcoin currency. If you accept fiat you need a license to operate. You may want to check out softswiss for licensing solutions
2. It's legal for now, there is no legislation that says that Gambling with bitcoin is illegal in any country as for now. But be careful with the US as they like to send the feds on. It's like a gray zone. You should hire a professional for this matters, you don't need to be asking in a forum if you have the funds to start a real bitcoin casino.
3. .com domain or any tld should do the work.

Anyways it all comes to what country you are resident in. I would be careful if you are in the US.

Bottom line: GET a good lawyer and professional help before launching a bitcoin casino. Some countries don't like them and they will want to go after you if you become big.

Good luck with your project!

1. If you are going to use ONLY bitcoin as payment then its depending on country. Most of countries do not require license for bitcoin casino. If you will accept fiat then YES you need a license on whole world.

2. If you are not going to scam people and choose proper country for it then yes its legal.

3. Don't understand what are you mean.

Actually, all the casino projects for now are outlaw, no goverment can control it, no government tax it at all so it leads the the problem that they're not under protected of any organization at all. So soon or later , this kind of business will get a big change to become legal. Gambling is a good way to provide a huge tax for goverment , they gonna find out a way to manage them and get more taxes. So legal or illegal it still can be accepted.

Most gambling sites these days do acquire a licence. If you dont have one then people may consider your site/business as shady.

Quote
2. Are we all sure it's legal?
That depends on what country yo are operating from and the countries the players are logging in the website from. It is illegal in many countries but I am sure there are many workarounds for this  ;)

If you have some scripts to run make sure they are provably fair. That is the biggest part of any online casino and physical casino is that every roll should be random and that randomness should be verifiable by some online/offline roll verifier. Other than that dont buy any domain that is known scam to people.

Your questions have been well answered. So, I am focusing on something that has not been answered yet. This something is the horrible question: whether your imagined business is what really contributes to us. I have to tell you honestly that I cannot help with legal issues. However, I am sure there are other things I could help with. Before investing much more into the concept, we could test it with a small prototype. Why don't we build an early prototype with your script?

I have had a casino script writing (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1596613.0) service in the forum and people have not complained much about the results.
You can see a list of my past crypto projects (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2309402) at my current service thread.

Oh hi, @cloverme, nice to see you here   ;)

If you are planning to run the casino software of softswiss, then yes, you need a license. And to know how much you need to pay for license, you should directly contact them. Most of the bitcoin casino sites use their software. About the legality, I don't have idea. But I think, it wont be a problem because bitcoin is not considered as money anywhere. But still you need to check your country policies for running the casino site.

Yes definitely,if you need people who could trust you with their money you need a license. It wouldn't be that difficult as lot of scam casinos are licensed anyway.

2. Are we all sure it's legal?
 3. What kind of domain do i need to buy if I want to put my own script? (I heard there were a couple of different types of scrupts)
- Depending on your country and jurisdiction.
 - You need to hire a developer to have something made from scratch. You cannot run a business on a script.Your competitors will eat you alive.

Yes, and you will need it in every country you want to operate. Look at trueflip project - they are banned in USA and Russia (I cheked it for myself when wanted to invest), maybe at other countries too.

PS And you need to research the indusrty first.  Asking such questions you won't find investors.

There are many decentralised online gambling platforms, only that majority are on Ethereum platform. You can start by research on these projects and see what you can do differently.
Wagerr
Augur
FunFair
vDice
Winsome.

Since you are new to bitcoin, just do extensive research and develop your idea from there.

I would have to agree with several of the other people here who are suggesting you contact a lawyer. It is never a good idea to be getting legal advice from strangers on the internet because you don't know their credentials.

Also, I think you are missing a massive aspect of this entire endeavor. The development. I don't know what "script" you downloaded, but you can't simply download a script and run an entire online casino. You will need thousands of man hours to develop and maintain the software. If someone is going to give you their bitcoins, they will want this to be done by professionals. Do you have a team of professionals who will be doing the development for you?

It's best to consult with a lawyer or accountant to know whether or not these things apply to you. If you are in any western country then you almost certainly need a license to operate a casino.

I would not trust the white label casino scripts out there, if I were you. These guys can include some nasty backdoors in their code and before you know it, you might be out of pocket with your whole Bankroll or they might exploit some weakness in the system that they created.

Get someone that you can trust and then get someone else that can check the code for backdoors and exploits.

I see some site than can answer all your question, but i cannot recall rightnow.
But still try to search and search untill you know everything.
And one thing, different country different rules, some countries required licensed and some are not.
So you better contact a person that knows everything like a casino owner.

Seems like you were on-point when you said that you are new to everything.
I just wanted to say, with the level of understanding you have right now (based on your questions' format), keep away from the thought of starting your own casino for now.
Try to understand about a quarter of the required knowledge from every aspect to able to manage a successful project before starting.

3. What kind of domain do i need to buy if I want to put my own script? (I heard there were a couple of different types of scrupts)
A domain is just a name, it doesn't hold the script.

As you stated you are new in everything in bitcoin, I suggest that better learn things first on how bitcoin circulates, on how things be manage in one hand, bitcoin is crucial to start on, it will be hard for you to start a business particularly casino which will use btc, things are different in some aspect of btc to dollars, remember that, you have to study first before involving yourself into something that you do not know yet.

1. Some countries do not require you to have a license when running a crypto-only casino, look at the following list to identify countries that haven't passed full legislation on crypto gambling - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory

2. The legality of the casino would depend on your compliance with laws and regulations of the country you have registered the business in, and the country in which the casino is hosted.

3. It does not matter which type of domain you own, they're all treated equally, what matters is the kind of hosting you have, whether it is VPS, Dedicated server, cloud hosting etc, what OS it's running on, which control panel is installed (if any) and what language your script is coded in.

Bitcoin no good as currency anymore for weed, cam-girls and gambling because of the crazy miner fees
so one I would not enter the casino to be mugged at the door and when I leave and you send me my
winnings  :D :D :D then who's paying the Tx fees.

I could write you a dice game that will equal 50 if you sum a million rolls of dice but somehow always
comes up short if they are NOT in-house bots just pretending to play so the house takes 99% and not just 5%
was it not highly illegal but I suspect not everyone is as ethical as me

Naw if I was out to make unethical money then I would become a miner or wait for the Lighting Network to
arrive and set myself up as one of them hub/banker things that are going to get a lot more functionality than
simple wallets acting as hubs to load the dice to my advantage.

I am studying the protocol as we speak and it talks about trying to bribe miners to block transactions close to the end

You know me mate, I know nothing about distributed systems and virtual private servers, IP-address  but
what would the lay of the land be if your hosting the outer HTML of the page in say the UK but all the gambling
content was within an IFRAME that is being feed for Taiwan ?

You said "what matters is the kind of hosting you have, whether.........."  but surly windows or Linux would not matter
in relation to the law and I also seem to remember you once saying "Coming from someone who cannot form more than a couple of coherent sentences"

Whats that saying again about granny eating raw eggs  :D :D :D

I'm with you on the closing sentiment, but there ain't much oil being used to generate electricity mate!

Anyway, what is the BTC Foundation planning to do about the roughly 2GW (at 20 EH/s) power consumption?
BTC might have the lead now, but it will be a dinosaur in ten years if this issue is not addressed.

Oh, and I'm not too sure Intel and AMD are that into ASICs. Answers anyone?

Oil is still used for power stations and when you drill for oil you often take the gas too and it's the same
big names anyway and lots of coins mining does not use ASICs but i think Samsung has just moved into
this field so I will add them to my list
