Title: Using old CPU's for Monero
Post by: PovertyByte on July 26, 2016, 05:01:47 AM
I have 2 CPU's and RAM I can get up and running if I just get a motherboard for them. Efficiency is no concern since I can run it on free electric in a dorm room soon.

Here are my 2 options.
Q6600 (2.4 ghz Intel Quad Core)
i7-930 (2.8 ghz)

In regards to the i7. I would need to get a minimal amount of RAM as well as a motherboard. With the Q6600 I only need a motherboard.

How much XMR would I be able to make a month with either of these?

I have a pretty similar I7 and, since it's an old CPU with no AES support you'll get around 65H/s. I don't mine much with it lately and the income depends on difficulty, but you'll get under 1 XMR / month with it.

Maybe 0.5 XMR is a close call.

About the quad core I don't know, maybe others can ...
