Title: help restoring electrum wallet plea
Post by: purplemer on July 29, 2016, 12:43:20 PM
Hello really need some help with my wallet

My partner was using her wallet and has lost her password. I think we found her seed and I used the seed to generate a new wallet. It has not worked as the balance  on the new wallet is zero.

I am not sure if something is wrong if I use the new electrum wallet to read the seed it asks for my password and comes up with a long number. If I do the same thing for my my wallet it reveals my seed.

Hope I explained that OK. Anyone got any ideas please

Thank you

If you see no balance when you should have and don't see any transaction under the transactions tab, you used the wrong seed.

The password always gets removed whenever you restored the wallet using seed.

Thanks for the reply
Was trying to understand why both wallets are behaving different. If I ask my wallet to read the seed it asks for my password and reveals it. If I ask the new wallet it asks for the password and reveals a big long code of numbers and letters.

That's not seed. Electrum seed are always combination of words. There shouldn't be any number attached to it.
You can see the seed by clicking the little seed (as in plant seed) button on the bottom right. Or from Wallet > Seed.

Maybe its not the correct seed. How much do you two remember about the password? If you can narrow it down to a few billion possible passwords I could try them with a script. If you are tech savvy and have a somewhat powerfull CPU you can do it yourself[1].
